Deliver unto us these riches
That’s what they promised? I thought they promised us nothing but a killer game.
Crystal Desert
They promised a something ever changing, interesting, and dynamic. HoT doesn’t look to be that. I just want to be excited to play again. If I’m the only one not pleased then ah well.

We had that with LS1 .. problem was most people didn’t wanted to have temporary
content and prefered to have a “not changing” static world where everything is
permanent.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Still waiting for the DoA, UW and FoW expansion…oh and Gaki as a playable race.
I would be happy just to see a Gaki again.
I agree in some respects. I think LS Season 1 was the right way to go, but too many people got upset because they can’t play it now. The destruction of LA and the events around it were significant, meaningful, and changed the game world permanently – and players were able to participate in that. Personally, I would like to see an MMO where the main storyline, like killing Zhaitan, was an event limited to a few months. As long as future epic encounters were sure to be available, like killing Mordremoth, I would totally support that. It sucks to miss it – I’m kicking myself for missing LS 1 – but it makes what you do in-game so much more important.

Volks World [VW]
Well there is still talk as of even this week by the devs that LS1 is still being looked at for a return, but that it will see no resources until HoT is done. Still, that said, HoT really doesn’t seem like it will be offering much more than more real estate to play in. If I’m wrong then all the better, but what was brainstormed in the thread I linked above is the kind of game that I want to play and that this still has the potential to be. I don’t foresee that happening though.
People complained about the temporary content which could drive a living world, because they would miss it. They also complained about LS1 items not available cause they missed it, so they were thrown in as a laural vendor item. So what we see now is as “living” as its going to get.
Heck, people complained that the two week opening for each episode of season 2 wasn’t enough time to just log in and get it for free. Yes, they complained that 2 weeks wasnt enough time to log in, click a character, and enter world, to get something free. That was too much effort.
Static Dynamics
Wow. The straw-man bashing is thick in this thread. How dare players actually want to play content when they can, rather than be locked out of it forever!
It is precisely that sort of unimaginative thinking which led to the demise of the Season One model in the first place. And blaming players for bad game design is just plain asinine.
The reality is that it is quite possible to design a dynamic, living world that doesn’t exclude the majority of players from enjoying it. But if people want to believe it’s not possible, they are welcome to believe whatever they want.
As long as ArenaNet doesn’t believe it, GW2 will be fine.
