Yep I was in that Arah dungeon.
Anet, can’t you afford security professionals? I sent you $20 USD just a couple days ago.
Well this is interesting….

ddosing isn’t hacking (cracking)….there’s nothing you can really do to avoid it. Kudos to arenanet for restoring services quickly though.

No matter how much security they add there it will always be possible to take it down with enough power. There is not a single thing that is connected to the internet that is 100% attack-proof.
I suppose this means people are starting to get annoyed with GW2s success, and feel the need to actively hurt the player in order to discredit it.

For a second, I thought it was me and I was having this “OMG NO!” moment because I was in Solo Q just talking about 4v5’s.
I didn’t want to be a hypocrite and I felt so ashamed.
But then I log in and see that it wasn’t just me, and also, our team won and I got the Reward Chest + points

I hope those guys are put in jail, shutting down gaming servers ain’t cool, especially being as it’s a new year and we’re trying to have fun and escape reality.

Jail’s a little extreme unless they stole accounts.
I think the copycats and the vigilantes that spur from these things are more threatening.
If you think that, you clearly need to go read your federal laws. Jail time is wholly appropriate.

we can only hope that in the near future that
1.) they figure out how to track down who does stuff like that, and that proxy sites help fix this issue they’ve caused
2.) that all countries will agree that any cyber attack of any kind is jail worthy of up to 10 years, that way these tools from other countries cant get away with attacking other countries and than have theirs defend them
This is how I picture this scenario went down.
ArenaNet Commandos to the rescue! \o/
DDOSers contained, restrained and detained . It’s going to be a long time before they “brb”.
Sorry the kittens (actually typed that hehe) are making you and others scramble on New Year’s Stephane.
Happy New Year ArenaNet! You’re all legendaries.
They literally got into North Korea’s international news station and took down their internet, that’s technically terrorism.
How does this not deserve jail time?
Absolutely! Many thanks for the Anet staff who got this sorted so fast!
Much respect to ArenaNet for getting the servers up so quickly. I heard League of Legends was down for 10 hours by these idiots.
Thanks for working on the holidays for us <3
Get them Anet! >:-( They made my friends DC on teq fight. Good thing we still won!

I was dancing in LA at the time I was booted. Very sad
While I don’t always agree with what ANet does, and while I think sometimes they make design mistakes… Good job getting the servers back. I just hope you folks don’t get TOO much crap for stuff that wasn’t your fault (though, doubtless you’ve probably already gotten a bunch of angry, unwarranted emails).
Thanks Anet people.

I could be mistaken but isn’t NC Soft a South Korea based Company? And even if it were a North Korean based company, Arena Net and all the Guild Wars 1 & 2 Servers are located in Texas here in the United States, unless I missed my guess. Cause you know Arena Net is the American division of NC Soft.

He’s talking about the group who’s actions are causing all this trouble for online games and elsewhere. Elsewhere being the operative bit here.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
They got it sorted out really fast even during new years eve. Very amazing how they handled this. Kudos to everyone at NCSoft, ArenaNet or whoever made this possible.

They did not get into N koreas internet which is designed to stop people getting out ..
They blocked the news feed which maybe 2 people look at …..the N korea TV internet radio is totally internal propoganda .Last thing N korea want is N Korean axcess WWW …probably thanked them .
Rather over claiming what did .

Actually, Communist States, or at the least China at any rate, are very highly involved in the affairs of the World Wide Web. How do you think the company known as Perfect World Beijing made its millions here in the U.S. when it ported it’s games to U.S. Audiences?
While I don’t know if North Korea publishes MMORPG’s, I do know that Communist States do need money in order to operate just like anyone else. And since a large portion of the worlds economy is digital these days, they require the use of the World Wide Web to facilitate that economy even in North Korea. Even if it is restricted in scope they would still have access to certain things.

Of course you might be right, but it is suspicious that LoL was taken down by the same group that took down GW2 right when he says LoL went down…and whoever it was took down all game sites that he plays and streams (GW2 included). Of course they deny this but it does seem a little fishy.

Nope.
As much as I hate people who wish a terminal illness befall their least favorite person I too am inclined to hope the kitten Trolling get some form of terminal illness related to their genitals, preferably slow and very painful running over the course of several years.
This proves the saying “what you give is what you get”

Aye, they have certain extra security.
But if someone want to DDOS something and have enough power they can do it regardless how much extra security said hosts have.

Maybe it’s because you just banned a bunch of innocent players. Maybe that got you guys in the crosshairs.

When I quoted you in response, I had checked phantoms twitch page and at the time, he had 22 hours on his previous stream. kitten took down GW2 the day AFTER he took down LoL, battle.net, Dota 2 and others. I’ve been watching kitten ’s twitter all day basically.
To say GW2 went down because of a video from phantom explaining why the cops we’re at his place, after kitten Trolling claimed that they don’t attack individuals(its on their twitter; @DerpTrolling) seem’s a little far fetched. Another thing that can go against the idea that it was because of phantom was that they gazed their attention to two other random streamers tonight that had about 2k-ish people watching before they got mentioned. kitten ’s followers then went and flooded their chat’s and forced them into sub chat only.
But they didn’t take down the games they were playing at the time of this going on. One was on LoL and another on WoW.
Their attacks are randomly directed to popular and somewhat popular games, not because of streamers. They attacked WoW before mentioning the second set of streamers today and shut it down, shortly after GW2 and Minecraft(which got hit twice) today.
Not only that, but phantom made that video(that I got a link from gamebreaker, whos known to be slow on reporting stuff) 15 hours earlier from right now(about 6amish EST) to the GW2 attack and then the attack happened 12 hours earlier. It didn’t directly happen after and the video doesn’t mention anything other than the event that happened the night off his attack. He didn’t play GW2 during the cyber attack and he didn’t mention the game in that first video you mentioned.
kitten is just trying to get their jollys out and people are looking for a scapegoat. I’ve only barely heard of Phantoml0rd before this attack, and I know I might be coming off almost as a fanboy, but just putting this part out there that I barely know of the guy. Even so, its kinda obvious that they are going at stuff randomly. I mean hell, they attacked APB Reloaded and Gamerfirst earlier today; can we blame Phantom for that too? does he play that horrible game? If that’s the case, we can blame the other two that got hit earlier for LoL(not sure if it went down earlier today) and WoW going down again, since they were playing them.
Like I said, people are looking for a scapegoat. He’s an easy target because of the first cyber attack. It didn’t stop though when phantom stopped streaming and because he didn’t even touch GW2, imo its hard to see how it’s his fault kitten took gw2 down.
Happy New Years!

Ah, you mean all those “innocent” people that got their bans changed within a few hours?
Those same “innocent” people that abused a rather clear bug?

maybe those people who expressed their different point of view regarding various things
When I see super fast mob spawns I think “this looks like a good farming spot” not “better not kill the mobs, anet might ban me” and that line of thinking is pretty much exactly what any gamer who has player mmos for the last decade would think.

I can’t be the only one that sees something wrong with that sentence.
