it’ll be a costume,
2 reasons i think this:

1. anet are piling costumes out at the moment, it seems to be their main cash grab.

2. Dervish wouldn’t really have a role, what would they do? close range aoe?
so many classes already do that, there just isn’t enough things that a dervish could do to be worth adding it as a class over something like a deathknight/ unholy paladin style class.

Part 1 (due to word limit):

Costume just..

Don’t you think anet would make more advertisement around something as bigbas like a new playable class.
When will people stopp this 2 year old long wishthinking about Dervishs.
They won’t come back.
Their very essence has been absorbed already completely into the Human Racial Skills.
GW2 has no Gameplay Mechanics anymore that have anythign to do with Dervish, there are either no Enchantments, nor any Flash Enchantments and just giving them this so that the Dervish has somethign unique is also no option, because then will people just request also for the return of Hexes and both are mechanics, which have been removed to make Game balancing easier.
Enchantments in this case have mostly been replaced by Boons, as they share a very similar mechanic of buffing you with some positive effects just, only with the difference, that there aren’t Boons, which you can keep up permanently at the cost of lesser Energy Regeneration, as this is also an old mechanic that got removed as it was basically an obsolete gameplay mechanic, that made Class Balancing just only harder than neccessary. Anet changed it basically into Endurance Regeneration and turned it into the Dodge Mechanic, which was a clever decision as only so could become the Combat System fast paced and full of action.

If this Game just needs for now first another playable Class, it will most likely be a Soldier Class and not a Light/medium One, like this Model looks like, because Heavies are the only Class Type, which currently have only 2 Classes, while the others have all 3 as also the Community is still/was very demanding over the past 2 years to get a 3rd Soldier Class over everything else.

The Shadow Assassin Costume also looks very much, as if Anet would intentd to implement a new Class – the Ninja/Assassin and it also just ended up being as a Costume.
The same could you think of that more heavy armor looking Costume, where people surely also thought about it, that it might be finally a new soldier class like a Dragoon or a Partisan and so on and it ended up also as just a Costume for everyone, because it seems, Anet has gone away from making Armor Sets for the Gemstore (because that got lately too much permanent negative criticism that Anet is putting too much Armors only into the Gemstore) and decided literally to replace their marketign strategy with the Gemstore Armors to replace that with Outfits, which is surely the reason, why we see lately much more Outfits being added to the game and since that no Armor Set has been implemented anymore after Zodiac, which is the exact moment, when Anet started to add more and more Outfits instead.
People should realize this, if they would just open their eyes and see, that also Anet reacts on our criticism here, negative as like positive very much and changes things then also silently in their marketing strategy. Isn’t the first time that such a change has happened

Part 2:

To come back to the Dervish, this class has no space in this Game. Thats also the reason, why we got no Assassins, but instead we got Thieves, because only under the developed and changed form was it possible to implement that Class into GW2 and make their existance plausible in the world of Tyria that has passed 250 years since GW1 which is a huge time span in that really alot of things can completely change – also to the point that something simply can’t exist anymore in the future because of there being no foundation anymore for that thing to exist in that time.

Most Mechanics of the Dervish have been just absorbed by the Weapon mechanics of GW2, the Guardian, the Elementalist and the Necromancer partwise.

The speciality of GW1 Dervish was to be the only class, that can hit multiple targets at the same time.
In GW2 is this nothing special anymore, just nearly everything can hit multiple targets now with weapons (Daggers, Swords, Greatswords, Axes (Ranger), Staffs, Shortbow (Thief) and so on, nothign special – absolutely NOT

Auras have been taken by the Elementalist, its the only clas, that can produce this mechanic for themself through skills like in the past the Dervish

The Guardian has taken over all those light themed attacks, the burning from attacks and the zealot style that the Dervish had.

The Necromancer has taken over chill attacks from the Dervish, the visual SCYTHE as it was from begin on imo the only class, to which withs the Scythe only and not to some wannabe god dancers as the scythe is the symbolic tool of the death and there is no other class in GW2 which symbolifies more death, than the Necromancer, so if there should be scythes in GW2, it would be just natural, that Necromancers should have them, what ANet also gave them plus there is Final Rest and the Scythe Skin for those, that want more a physical scythe to see and not just a Death Scythe from using Necromancer Staff Skills only.

Alot of the Skills from the Dervish have also turned into Traits or Skill Types of various Classes, like for example the Dervishs Meditation has been changed into a Skill Type for various Guardian Skills like Renewed Focus, Litany of Wrath, the two Intervention Skills and 3 Traits under Valor (I, X and XII)
——

If there is ever a chance for the Dervish to return, then I think only under a heavy redesign, but also under a new Name, basically just like Anet did that with the Thief, or maybe as some kind of redesign Sub Class for the Guardian as a Mystic Sub Class, because game lorewise in the personal story, theres talk of some kind of “Mystic” profession that no one has yet seen, which seem to work in the Durmand Priory.
Because thats the only other speciality about Dervishs were all about – Mysticism
When Anet can redesign them around Mysticism and fill the gaps of mechanics that have been given to all the other classes with their own complete new gameplay mechanics.
I think, then has the Dervish some kind of little chance to return under the new class term of being named Mystics.

that_shaman found these after latest patch and rendered those images. He claims those to be outfits and I believe him since he probably knows the tree structure of the archives already.

It’s definitely an outfit. Notice how the chest and legs are all one piece. Definitely inspired by the Dervish from GW1, though, but sadly it’s just an outfit.
