As you’re probably aware, the ArenaNet studio experienced a weather-related power outage that impacted the release timing of our February 7 update. The team is working hard on getting the build in order and out the door as soon as possible.
In light of the situation, we’re going to postpone our Reddit dev celebration. It’ll take place on February 8th in the afternoon Pacific Time. We look forward to seeing you in the game when the build goes live, and in the celebration tomorrow!
So, release will be after 8th then?
So, release will be after 8th then?
Based on her phrasing, the release will still be today but only the reddit AMA will be postponed until tomorrow.
Yeah, they don’t have the Reddit discussion before the release. Spoilers! Also the players have nothing to discuss yet.
Thanks for letting us know
This is about the dev chat, not the release of the update. We wanted to adjust the day for the dev chat so that we can get the most devs possible involved. The work to get the release ready continues, and will continue until it is out.
So, release will be after 8th then?
In some time zones, yes
Thank you for the clarification, Gaile. <3
For EU players it’s already getting very late, and many people have work tomorrow. I must say I’m quite disappointed by this delay.

Nothing they can do. They can not control the weather! That’s like saying I am disappointed that the airline won’t fly me to Miami cause there is a hurricane.
There’s not much they can do if there was a power outage. It’s not the end of the world and I’m sure everyone there is working their hardest to get the release out as quickly as possible
GoldFox controls the weather… no?
thanks for the update Gaile

They can’t control the weather, but everyone knows that if you’re hosting a server you should have backup electricity and maybe arrange things beforehand instead of letting us wait for over 5 hours on a patch day…
Well, i kinda understand all people who have to work tomorrow, but hey. They cant just make the weather better. Make the sky clean etc. Lets just wait for tomorrow. To be honest, we should be happy, that they didnt turned off the game servers for that time where was no energy. Hope everything will go right and people will like the new LS
Demawend
Ps. Balance characters x)
Jormag may have hit Anet studio hard. But we will not yield, we will fight back with all our strength and WE WILL… probably try to stay awake. I mean there is not much we can do after all, is there? :P
Thanks for the heads up!
Can we get an idea of how long until the update? Atleast some indication?….
Patch notes… anything?
We want this patch by now.. been waiting hours… PvP is already in a bad spot atm with the ppl leaving the game and now PvE is experiencing a hit also…
How can you let this happen? Lol
lorddavito, it’s weather not them screwing us round. Nothing they can do about that

Jesus the entitlement is real with this one. They did have backup power sources. Did you notice that the game didn’t go down during all of this? GW2 has the smoothest patches I have ever seen, and weather is completely out of their control.

They just had the worst storm in 8 years. There were travel bans. People can die in bad weather like that…
Stuff happens, stop being rude and selfish.
Keep up the work folks. The power outage may not have affected them directly. There are a lot of factors. When the cable goes out and you still have power, nothing you can do. I am an IT admin and I know how end users can be. Keep on keeping on.
If anyone knows anything about how backup power works then you would know that they can’t run the whole dev system on backup power. The most a backup system give you is the time to save what your working on and then shut down. luckily the servers are in Texas and Germany or we will most likely not be playing at all!
An estimed time please, even if it’s not accurate, just to make us feel more confortable with?

Still better than most companies. I hate when I want to play a game and it’s down for about 5-7h cause it is patch time! We only had a couple of servers downtime (real down), other than that, 24/7 servers online no matter what. They do wonders
Take my hand and I shall lead you through the dark.
Honestly, I was surprised too, as it seemed like the game didn’t go down! impressive! Just chillout people and do your backlog of Festival Achievements and achievement points.
I started finishing No Masks Left Behind, since I didn’t feel like doing anything else in the game.
(Of course I’m like OMGGGG aarghh! wheen??
But I try to take it slow ;p achievemnts are often a solution)
Guys, stop bickering please. As a fellow developer I should tell you – ANet are doing everithing right. If they try to rush the patch, something goes wrong (and it does) and a full roll back is needed, the players are going to cry like on bloody murder. So make a cup of tea and enjoy the game. We are NOT going to die if we play tomorrow the patch for the first time!!
@ANet: Thank you for your hard work. (bow)

Power outages are still a major problem in the area. It’s amazing they’re able to work at all.

oh dear QQ i´m quite disappointed by such attitude.

Production servers live in a data center. Developers work in an office building. The standards for uptime are very different between the two. I don’t know of any company that tries to maintain 99.99% uptime for their development environment. I can only imagine how much that would cost!

What attitude are you refering to? I’m just sharing my honest opinion. Doesn’t mean I have an attitude.
Goldfox the fact you seem to think they can control the weather. There a definitely attitude. Hell this is the worst nightmare for IT guys. They will patch when they can, as others said the Development team probably no where near the actual Game Servers, but they probably need to sort the office out before they can hit the button to start the update and deal with any issues.
It’s not the weather alone. US infrastructure sucks for decades already.
In Seattle they seem to have outages all the time.

You know, I love the Pacific Northwest, but what you said really struck me. I’ve lived in another state and another country on a completely different continent, but never have I lived where there are so many bloomin’ power outages! I don’t know what it is, except that the Puget Sound region gets a lot of wind and we have (thank goodness, it’s what drew me here!) a lot of trees. So a branch goes down in Puyallup (try saying that if you aren’t a PNW resident ) and a house in Renton or Issaquah (try that one, too, just for fun ) can find itself in darkness.
Anyway, I know this is off topic, but don’t worry, I’m not directly working on the patch, so my posting to mention our region’s electrical anomalies isn’t taking away from the update!

This, please!
I’m not mad about Anet getting hit by a power outtage and not being able to release the patch on the stated release day, it can happen. But Anet could atleast tell us that it won’t happen on Feb 7 for EU people (and it didn’t) so that we can just go to bed and stop waiting with hope that will only get a buzzkill. The ’’we’re working as hard as we can and will deliver it soon’’ just keeps moralizing these hopes.

Yea it could be worse… its comfortably into the 8th for some of us down under So if it makes it any better its perfectly timed! Bring on the windy power outages :p

As i said, they’ve the whole world to please… some of us are always a day late technically but that is the nature of time just gotta remember everyone gets it at the same moment, and give in that it might not suit.

I can understand. I have family that lives across the bridge on Mercer Island. Every year it seems there a 2~3 day long power outages.
We are lucky because we can play while we wait for the patch.
I think Arenanet is either using Magic or has some genius network programmers/adminstrators. We almost never have any downtime while many
games in preperation for updates undergo long maintences a few times a month.
Therefore I just like to say thank you and it will be interesting to see the new upcoming contents.
Take good care
Kinda alarming that the fate of this entire patch which you’ve gotten us hyped for nearly a month over is tied to the last day like this. Maybe give yourselves some room next time.
Well, perhaps next time you can write to the six and ask them not to drop a snow storm in Washington state the day before a patch is set to launch… or… even better… you can just be more reasonable.
I’m so freaking disappointed… I will not do Jormag’s World Boss ever again
As you’re probably aware, the ArenaNet studio experienced a weather-related power outage that impacted the release timing of our February 7 update. The team is working hard on getting the build in order and out the door as soon as possible.
In light of the situation, we’re going to postpone our Reddit dev celebration. It’ll take place on February 8th in the afternoon Pacific Time. We look forward to seeing you in the game when the build goes live, and in the celebration tomorrow!
I’m curious about why they host these things on Reddit instead of your own forums?
You guys are such a whiners… It can happen that someting came up and a release is delayed.. It happens a lot in a business.
Next to that we can be happy we can play this game with such a less downtime and that Anet is still making cool content and keeps updating this game (and yes I hope on more DLC’s like HOT)…
It is kinda sad you guys are waiting whole evening for a update to come out… an update!! omg.. Get a life.. Do something else. Tomorrow is a new day.
Anet keep up the good work.
You can’t search on their forums.
Plus, if they say something controversial, they’ll get blocked and the comment will disappear . . .

Reddit as a platform is infinitely easier to use for such a Q&A situation.

Not that ANET can control where they put the power lines, but if this is true, than why do they not put them underground. The power companies need to stop being cheap and bury the powerlines that go to homes and business.
On that note, I would rather have ANET get it right, than have to have the game down for another day because some bug was found and your armor would not show up. People remember the naked incident lol. I bought the game because of how they handled that one. They did it right way then.
I quit. I planned my life around this for a week, hyped so bad I couldn’t sleep since sunday night, worked an extra 10hrs for today off and nothing. Screw you
Fenom, chill please… This is not Anet’s fault, that the weather is horrible.
They didn’t make it with premeditation.
Personally I am not gonna blame Anet….I am gonna blame braham for not taking down Jormag quick enough that we all know is responsible behind this awful pile of snow causing the power outage #icreateconspirationisttheoriesthataremuchmorebelievablethanreptilians

I was going to say that Puyallup and Issaquah are easy compared to Sequim and Kalaloch, but then I remembered that I am from the PNW (though thankfully, no power loss over here in Forks!) and so I can’t really talk since I’m used to all of them…
Thanks. Working in IT I am used to having to break the news to people that things get delayed due to one thing or another. Being one day late is what I call on time, especially since you so often hit your targets and the prior ep was even a day early.
