Guild Wars 2

Hello to all of the ArenaNET team, and thanks for all your efforts to make Guild Wars 2.

Today, as far as I am aware, is the “real” birthday of the live Tyria. Happy Birthday!

With respect to that, I have one question:

What time did the first Guild Wars 2 server go live to pre-launch customers? (login and/or game).

It was August 24th, 9pm pacific time by my diary.

They said that it would either be August 25th or up to 3 hours early. I tried it at 11 PM CT and they were up.

(I said Eastern time on another thread. I must have had a senior moment or something)

Hi Astral. Yes, that’s was our talk about the time…

I was more curious if there is a time stamp of “21:01:55” UTC-8 that the ArenaNET team consider the official launch of live…

That said, now I wonder if live was running for a period of time in advance to the public opening, with staffers racing around the maps, making sure the game was running properly. But that, I think, is something we may never know

You’re right, my /age says 729 days, that is 365+364 days.
As far as I remember, the servers were opened for login at 06:00 AM CEST, which is 9:00 AM PST or 4:00 AM UTC.
I remember that I crawled out of bed an hour before and created my first 5 characters in pyjamas with my eyes half closed.

I expect it was up and running for some time before it went live. There is bound to have been last minute testing and debugging up to launch. It was pretty close to 9pm, if not right on the nose.

It probably depends if they physically turned it on or if the computer was set to do so automatically unless overridden. If it was the computer, it would be exactly at 9 then.

Sure, but at this point we’re speculating. I’m hoping for a real answer.
