A few hours ago Jeffrey Vaughn made the somewhat cryptic statement:

“It’s exactly as Linsey stated previously—it’s a loot drop from a specific (rare) boss.”

What does “(rare)” mean to Developers when talking about game critters? Heck. I’m a little unclear how exactly the term “boss” is used in this game.

Its not item rarity rare (not a Yellow Name).

Is the a reference to some sort of spawn timer?

Are we talking about the random creatures that sometimes appear during Dungeons runs in Explorer mode?

Puzzled, but hopeful.

I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

My interpretation is:

“Boss” – An enemy mob that has an event to kill it specifically, and takes a group.

“Rare” – Not often found / Not found easily.
Whether that is rare because the opportunity for it is based on chance, or whether its rare because people RAREly do the event is a different matter.

According to here:

“rare” means Legendary. Not Epic as a Dragon would be (also according to the wiki).
