Ok, so a little background.

My first MMO was a game called FLYFF. It was a Korean “grindfest” MMO where you got together with people, smashed monsters repeatedly, and wore really cute/cool armor while doing it. What I loved about FLYFF was this cool armor, and how the game pushed you to play with others. What I hated about it was how boring the grinding got.

I moved on to WoW like most people and stayed there through the end of high school and entirely through college. What I loved about WoW was the tight gameplay and the awesome world. What I hated about it was how over time the game became less social and there really was not cute/cool armor. You were locked in to “the best” armor regardless of how it looked.

Cue Guild Wars 2. A game where you go into the open world to do events and smash face with other people. A game that rewards you for helping others. A game that doesn’t base everything on having “the best” armor. When the game was in development I heard “cosmetic upgrades” thrown around alot. It was being developed by an awesome team too! That meant: TIGHT GAMEPLAY and a BEAUTIFUL WORLD!

It was like everything I loved about Flyff and WOW was finally going to come together into a big beautiful game. I was STOKED. This was the first game I have ever gotten a CE for. That’s how STOOOOKKKEED I was!

Well, I’ve never managed to hit level cap… the gear while leveling all looks the same… and its ugly! I bought one of the skins off the store… “Profane” armor? That’s the skin I get to use until I hit level cap. Not very exciting. The bunny ears, boxing gloves, hoodies, pirates outfit… all things I would want can only be worn in town? I can’t even use them in the world… so I can’t use them while I’m actually playing the game, just AFK’ing in town?

:(

The world events in the low level zones are becoming sparse as players sit in LA and spam for FOTM… something I thought this game wanted to avoid. It’s so World of Warcraft and so lame. Sorry.

Did I just get the wrong impression? What happened? Is this my own fault? I’m to the point where I’m googling “Flyff clone”, but guess what… it’s all these low budget games that are probably scams.

I really thought this was going to be the game for people like me who just want to make good friends, help one another, and look cute while doing it… it sounds so cheesy, but that’s really what I enjoy. I play DotA when I want to put my tough face on. I play MMO’s to be light hearted.

I mean, the game is GOOD… it’s just not what I was expecting. Been trying to return to it, but I think it’s not going to work out. Is there more to look forward to at level cap? :’(

I still have fun. Have not seen a group looking for fotm in a long time. Have you gotten map completion? You can find lots to do in all the areas and I still find people playing in all of the areas I have been too.

There are plenty of sites which have screenshots of all of the various skins available, which is a very large amount! Use the trading post “preview” (right click) on items to see what they look like on your character.

Get your butt up to level 80, there is so much you haven’t seen yet.

Message me sometime and guest over to Crystal Desert (if you’re not already there) world, I’ll show you lots of fun stuff.

Personally I never got into the looking “cute” thing. I can appreciate attractive character models and impressive armor, but dollhouse glamour and waxy skin ruins my immersion.

GW2 also seems to have a mix of asian style elements and what I call “western” ones, which I think makes the game sometimes feel at odds with itself. In the same game you can have a Steampunk Engineer and an Anime Elementalist.

Go to www.gw2armor.com

Also, check out the wiki: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Light_armor

If you want to level in open world zones because you hate and/or are afraid of instanced content and WvW, guest on Tarnished coast or Jade Quarry.

There’s plenty to do at the level cap…plenty of armor choices for light and heavy armor (medium armor is quite another story)…

Thanks for the encouraging posts, everyone.

Thanks for the link Vorch. What is different about Tarnished Coast and Jade Quarry?

And Allisa, I think I actually USED to be on CD but changed because a friend started playing on Isle of Janthir!

TC and JQ are very PvE oriented, especially TC. (TC is also an unofficial roleplaying server)

They actually have started saying that too many people are showing up, especially for boss chest events.
