Hello.
I’ll get straight to the point. I took a break for awhile and decided to check it out again due to the expansion almost coming out. Great and all but why on earth is my ping averaging 380 while having a constant 340 ping WHAT???? Did I miss something? Did something about the servers change? I used to play on 200 to 240 ping and that was tolerable I got used to it, even mainly as a pvp player but 340 is clearly unacceptable. From the google searches I’ve done oceanic people are making it seem like 300 ping has what it’s always been on NA servers when it clearly hasn’t been.
Anyways I’m just curious if something changed that I wasn’t aware about. Sure sucks if that’s the case and 300 ping is the norm. That’s another mmo that has become unplayable in AU.

AU here too. I remember once I hit 240 ping, was a glorious day.

You’re not alone dude, Infact I’m in the exact same situation as you, coming back after a while and noticed the same thing. It isn’t just GW2, I’m an ESO player and the exact same issue is occurring there as well. From what little info I could gather, over the last month or two something happened with a lot of Aussie players ISP’s which has caused a disruption with the routing to the US (Texas I think?) servers.

I’m still working on a fix and I’ll let you know if I discover anything, in the mean time some acknowledgement from a dev would be hugely appreciated. I happen to know for a fact this is plaguing a vast majority of OCE players right now.

Noticed the same, then I remembered that the US isn’t exactly having the best of weather.

240 ping is like my regular ping. Poor SEA.

Man THAT really sucks like I don’t know what to say, seems like we kinda just have to hold that and move on lol. Unfortunate really, had like 2k hours and was looking forward to try those new specializations in pvp.

I can tell you, since using WTFast my ping is still quite high but there is a lot more stability. I connect to the Sydney Server from Central QLD and from there to Texas and it’s loads better. I can actually play WvW and do raids now whereas before it was virtually impossible due to ping.

You are always going to have a higher ping, simply because you are routed through more points to there from here and then there’s the physical distance.

Remember too, that in the last few years, millions more people in OCX got access to decent internet but the undersea connection to the US is still the same as before, it’s got a lot more traffic to deal with and no additional capacity. It’s also privately owned and they can bias whatever traffic they like.
