Q:
What is going on with the Ley-Line Research Events? Has anyone succeeded in one of these events in the past year+? When they were first introduced, I used to participate and they succeeded. But in the past year+ every single one I have participated in has failed. I have participated in small events with only a few people (so scaling not the issue) and large events organized by a commander or when a map is part of the Dailies. It doesn’t seem to matter – the event ALWAYS fails. Just did one in Snowden Drift which is a Daily map today – failed.

I’ve actually seen a surprising amount of them succeed with little to no coordination at all recently, on daily maps. All just luck of the draw on how many people are around and know what they’re doing, I guess.
Yes. Did one, and succeeded, in the last month (maybe six weeks).
Good luck.
Interesting, I guess I have very bad luck then. I don’t understand why they are so difficult though. Not like they give great rewards or anything. Bad thing is that people on low level maps like Snowden try to do them and they take so long that they are very discouraging.

They are difficult for the same reason many other things are “difficult”. Too many people participating don’t know what to do. The number of golems ramp up as the event progress as well as scaling up with the number of people around. You need to get rid of any golemancer that shows up since they buff the golems which causes the golems to block attacks. The blocks will make it much more difficult to kill the golems fast enough.
The other stupid thing about these events(only found out about this yesterday) is that if you focus too much on helping it succeed you can end up not getting credit for the other achievements which are for helping the event succeed. This means too many people trying to succeed can also lead to failure. -_-

I guess what I mean by difficult is that they are fairly complex for a simple “Current Event”. As you say, you need to understand that you need to kill the golemancers or the golems will block, etc.
What should be the criteria for an event having actual mechanics? You can ignore them and murder everything in sight but that approach requires having enough DPS but unfortunately that is often lacking as well.

I’m not saying that the mechanic should necessarily be removed. I’m just commenting that the mechanics in this Current Event are more complex than other Current Events and that is why I think it fails so much (100% of the time for me for quite some time). It’s not that I don’t understand the mechanics either – even understanding them, I find it difficult to strike the correct balance to succeed. And of course the other players participating each have their own idea of what to do.
Ironically, I also did one in Snowden today too and it suceeded. Maybe it’s just the luck of the draw. :/
I tried a few of these in Snowden a few weeks ago, but the map was largely deserted. With only myself and 1 or 2 others coming to help out, we were unable to hold off the Inquest.
If the map comes up in the daily event rotation, I will try it again. Knowing that we need to focus on the golemancers should help next time too.

Don’t forget your CC skills. The golemancers and some of the golems also have a breakbar.

Yes, I finished them all late last year. How? By opening a squad in LFG — you wouldn’t believe how many people joined. Took me only a few days to finish them all.
I succeeded for the first time yesterday, after a couple of fails. Yesterday, I decided to not collect any ley line pieces but only focus on damage. We were only about 10 people, I play Power Daredevil, and I believe that my decision to only do dps helped quite a bit. In the former attempts, I did both, hit a few times, then collected ley line sparks, and so on.
With the dps output my Thief has, I can wipe all mobs there except the golem champs quickly. I also had cc skills ready, and I saw that the other people who were in the event knew how to destroy that breakbar too.
I think the event fails when too many people collect stuff instead of killing things.

Yes, I see that is part of the solution: kill things quickly.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful responses.

I concur with this. In the one I did recently, I was also a power daredevil and focused on killing, not picking up a single crystal. I don’t know if I was any help, but keeping the numbers of golems down was satisfying.
Snowden Drifts was the daily event map yesterday, and I took the opportunity to do some of the leyline events there. All 3 I tried were completed successfully. I ended up focusing on the golemancers each time, and that seemed to make a big difference.
