Although i’m looking into a Wireless option that has speeds around 1MB down. “If” they cover this area, which is a big “if”, i think they will put something on my roof of sorts…but i dunno if that will help seeing as i’m in the middle of a forest. I have terrible cell service as well and that’s how i’m accessing the internet so it’s quite spotty =(

It’s nice to know the patch size, I only have access to wifi and a 20GB a month budget. 500 MB is a noticeable part of that and I have to watch my usage to make sure I don’t go over my budget when there are a number of updates.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

If you have a smartphone you could just purchase unlimited data plan and tether internet to your PC from the existing 3G/LTE network. That’s what I do when my ISP kittens up and gives me bad pings to ANet’s servers. Though I have a 3G USB modem with data SIM in it so its always in.

Sure speeds are not great (1-2mb/sec in comparison to my broadband) but if Gw2’s latency meter is realistic, my ping is just about the same

The only annoying thing is that the data sim IP is dynamic and mobile auth haunts me but hey, better be safe than sorry

Hmm well as i said i’m in a low service area and the only thing that reaches me is Verizon. As far as i know verizon doesn’t offer an unlimited data plan. However, i am getting my internet access through a Wireless Hotspot Device through Straight-talk which basically uses verizon signals as far as i was told. I also pay for an “*Unlimited” phone plan that gives me 3GB’s at “High Speed” and after those are used on my phone they drastically reduce the speeds down to barely anything. I’m not sure if straight-talk would allow tethering on their phones/plans seeing as they sell data to make money lol.

I will definitely look into tho and make sure they don’t allow it, thanks for the suggestion

How to save bandwidth:

PARTIAL PATCHING
Add -StreamingClient to the command line options for the game. You usually do this by editing its shortcut on the desktop or something similar.

Don’t let the game fully patch, instead click “Ready” after it says “Playable”.

Go into your options and disable streaming content by setting it to “Off”.

Note: I have no idea how this impacts the game.

FULL PATCHING
If you need to do a full patch, then load the game onto a Windows, Linux or Mac laptop (although the patcher likes to crash alot in Linux), head to town about once a week and fully patch the game from a public Wi-Fi hotspot.

You should also coordinate this with batch downloading of YouTube videos, etc. at the same time to minimize your at-home bandwidth usage each month.

The large one yesterday, 500MB. Didn’t pay attention to the smaller ones.
