Did the naming policy change or did the game moderators suddenly get very strict out of nowhere?

I have had a character with the same name since the day GW2 released. It is the same name as my account name, which you can see listed above. I have used this name for many years on many games and never had any issues. After almost a year (yesterday), I was forced to change my name and given a 72 hour ban for it. I am slightly devastated because everyone I know online, knows me by this name and although it could be interpreted as slightly crude. I don’t think it is super offensive.

You can ban me for a month, if you just give me my name back. How is my account name being listed on the forums for all to see appropriate, but naming a character that is not?

Judging by your account name I would say that you probably were or are already pushing the bounds. They have always been strict because usually intelligent adults or even just mature people make appropriate names. When they don’t what you listed is what happens.

Then do something like a year ago before I am so invested. How do I slip under the radar for this long? I was not hiding, I used this name in the beta and posted with this name all over the forums.

Probably someone reported you for it…which is different than just randomly banning the name. You get enough reports, and it eventually flags you. Generally speaking, unreported names are generally not banned.

Well I’m offended. you have a project going and didn’t tell me or that person(s) about it. I’d done the same. What do I smell or something? sniff good lord.!!!….er uh…that’s not the point.

-Serious time-
All jokin’ aside you gotta understand that this game is Rated T. I’m sure some family member(s) was upset to see something like this or whatever. Personally I have no problem with the name. I know what kitten means. ( Steven Tyler Fockner University, Right?). Sorry let it slip.
Like Geotherma.2395 said you might be lookin at more trouble. Best to let it go. No point in coming to the forum to try and understand or reason with it. Sorry that it happened yo.

I got hit with a forced name changed 6 months into the game too. Of course after that length of time had gone by anything similar to the original name was taken and it’s pretty obvious to me that a lot of people tried for that name.

As far as I’m concerned it’s the second reason I have to never spend money on this game, the Nov 15 patch being the first reason. Expansions? No thanks.

My posts are facts as I know them, or my own opinion, and do not represent any guild.
