Logged onto my level 80 today and looked at his personal story and it looks like it is almost to the way it was pre feature pack. Chapter 7 had the biggest fear story in it and chapter 8 appeared to be back in order.

The only reason I say “almost” is because Temple of the Forgotten God is listed twice in chapter 8; at the beginning and at the end. If they just replaced the second one with Victory or Death I believe everything would be back to normal.

Anyone else notice this? Does this mean the PS is back and fixed?

Had not seen this, thanks telling about it. But yeah Temple of the Forgotten God is in there twice now.
Glad that Apatia is back in my log though.

No problem. I hadn’t seen anyone else post about this on here or reddit yet so I decided to start a topic.

I’m guessing Anet hasn’t stated anything official about it yet either?

It doesn’t look like they fixed it.

My old characters show the repaired order, but a character that I levelled after 9/9 still shows the new order with the fear storyline missing and everything.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m going to try to level my ele up to 70 soon to find out for sure.

Hopefully they didn’t just fix it for players that make it to chapters 8 & 9 from this point on and just forget about the players that missed out.

I’m still not doing any PS on any character until they actually tell us what they’re doing with all this… some communication would be nice. I’d like to know what they actually intend to do: which things will be fixed, which things were meant to be cut, and what they’re going to leave as is.

My guess is that they won’t say anything official until it is completed. We have already pointed out that Temple of the Forgotten God is now listed twice, so they could be working on that or other things.

It could be that we stumbled upon a progress report, which at least lets us know they are working on it.

Any word on whether characters that started the PS pre-patch have corrected PSs? Is the story still broken for NPE characters?

Did you hit have Forging the Pact unlocked before or after the 9/30 update?

If it was before, then you’d have the Feature Batch version regardless, but if it was after the update, then they didn’t change it.

It will remain unchanged for characters who hit chapter 7 (completed Retribution and hit level 70), even if they fix it. Similar to how those who had hit chapter 7 before the feature batch had the original layout.

The question we’re trying to figure out is whether or not it’s been changed for those who didn’t hit chapter 7 before the 9/30 update.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

I completed ‘Retribution’ shortly after 9:00 PM EST on 9/30 and played through ‘Forging the Pact’ that same evening. On 10/01, I went on with ‘The Battle of Fort Trinity’ and finished out the arc.

So then that would have been after the patch – it wouldn’t matter when you completed Forging the Pact, just when you got it showing in that top-right corner (nor would it matter when you completed following portions of the chapter).

Here’s Trahearne talking about the orb and Tonn’s explosives right before the Battle of Fort Trinity.

Most of the missions afterward had their green star at the ship docked at Fort Trinity.

My personal question:

I’ve got a pre-NPE Necro who reached level 80 before the Feature Pack patch but who’s just started the Claw Island chapter. How will the PS work for him when he reaches the Greatest Fear?

I’m planning to have him choose the path that leads to Tonn. I really want to try that storyline branch. I have two other toons: my 1st did Syska (and is done with the entire core PS), and my 2nd choose Apatia (started Forging the Pact prior to the Feature Pack, currently supposed to meet her in Mount Maelstrom).

I’m holding back on both my Necro and 2nd toon on the hope that they fix the PS soon. I currently don’t want my Necro to do the PS on the chance he ends up with the butchered no-Greatest Fear version of the PS. I want Tonn to be part of his story.

Please, please, please, ANet, revert the PS to the way it was. You can still make it fit your level-gated new system using the old storyline.

I can confirm first hand that it’s not fixed.

And it’s not just for characters created after NPE: whoever hit Level 70+ after the latest Feature Pack unlocked Chapter 7 in its current form, hence the new version.

I got the new one on an NPE character that’s been sitting on Chapter 5 but is currently lv80. One of my guildies resumed playing a character created back in January and leveled it to lv75 so far. Went through Retribution yesterday and he got the “new” version as well, the “Greatest Fear” storyline still missing.

Why we can’t have any indication about this issue is really beyond me. Even just knowing that the messed up, shortened story is here to stay as it is would help, at least we could move on and be done with it.

I really, REALLY hope this doesn’t turn into another blatantly ignored issue like that of Traits unlocks, but judging by the current lack of information I’m not holding my hopes up…

Thing is, with an issue like trait unlocks, you can sweep it under the rug. There are ways to go around it, and it doesn’t actually break the game, it’s just annoying.

A broken, nonsensical MAIN STORYLINE however breaks the entire kittenin game in the sense of serving its function. It’s funny when the devs of a role-playing game forget how original, paper-and-pen RPG-s were all about building and telling a story – the fun of combat and game mechanics was just an added perk – and allow such an enormous issue to go practically ignored for a month by now. I know some people don’t care about the story that much and play mainly for the fun mechanics, but then again, I don’t care that much about realism and graphics in an FPS, for example, which is important for a majority of players of that genre. It still has to be there and has to work, otherwise your game is an unfinished, alpha-phase mess. An RPG might be playable without a comprehensible storyline, but then it’s not an RPG, it’s a non-conceptual tactical combat game in a fantasy setting, much like MOBAs.

I was getting my hopes up with Chris Whiteside’s hint in another topic about a possible update on the issue a while ago, but time is passing, and there’s still nothing substantial. If I had been a new player at the time of the update, I would have quit after about a week. Now I’m just very, very, very disappointed in Anet’s current performance. And the sad thing is, like you said, it would take only one teensy weensy godkitten post, saying “WE ARE WORKING ON IT ALREADY, THIS AND THIS WILL HAPPEN”, to satisfy me and calm me down regarding the issue.

Just to be sure: my Necro was created before the September Feature Pack went live and reached level 80 way before it as well.

However, as per your report, I am now incredibly wary of advancing him further on the PS. :-( :-( :-(

This is such a freakin’ depressing development. :-( :-( :-(

My personal question:

I’ve got a pre-NPE Necro who reached level 80 before the Feature Pack patch but who’s just started the Claw Island chapter. How will the PS work for him when he reaches the Greatest Fear?

You’ll get the current set-up. It’s when you hit the chapter 7 PS storyarc, not when you hit the level.

I.e., you needed to have “Forging the Pact” either completed or the step you’re on before the Feature Patch.

I’m holding back on both my Necro and 2nd toon on the hope that they fix the PS soon. I currently don’t want my Necro to do the PS on the chance he ends up with the butchered no-Greatest Fear version of the PS. I want Tonn to be part of his story.

I suggest going no further than A Light in the Darkness – I’m not taking any character to complete that story step, as that’s when you pick your fear and I don’t want to pick one just for it to not register. It likely will register, but I’m playing it safe.

If you’ve completed A Light in the Darkness, then *DO NOT complete Retribution* if you want to experience the storyline in any future fixed path.

Though we don’t really know if the fear path will ever return.

Why we can’t have any indication about this issue is really beyond me. Even just knowing that the messed up, shortened story is here to stay as it is would help, at least we could move on and be done with it.

Or we can properly protest about it. Rather than going “when will it be fixed” “is it going to be fixed” we’d have a clear stance to make, rather than just throwing questions that may never get answered.

Though it’s pretty clear at least a good number of players want it returned to the original format.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
