Didn't Anet say GW 2 would be solo friendly?
Veterans = Boring uninspired slightly harder monster that aren’t worth the time.
Champions = Damage sponges that aren’t worth the time of you (or your party) killing.
See, Guild Wars 2 is a game that rewards you unlike other games, you get SATISFACTION! Bah, in other pathetic games you only get drops for time spent, what a waste of time. I frequently moan on the Torchlight 2 forums about my drops, I wish those guys would realise I only want to be rewarded by time spent and wish they’d reduce my drops from NAMED bosses because they are no fun! Can’t wait or the Veteran/Champion boss patch in Torchlight 2 namechanger. I hear it makes all bosses have exquisite names like Veteran or Champion :P

I solo 80 zones all the time, ever since I hit 80 and was running around in greens.
But truth is most of the open world soloable except champions and group events. Solo friendly doesn’t mean the entire game can be soloed. But the majority of it can be outside of instances and wvw, and specific group activities.
However, champions are still a waste of time regardless and it is very irritating to have them guarding skill points.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
Champions and group events are easy, I dunno what you’re talking about. Longest champion I’ve fought took me about 30 minutes to fight solo.
When Anet first started to talk about GW2 they said they did away with the henchmen and was going to have a single NPC companion system, then got rid of that idea. They went on talking about how PVE was going to be solo friendly but encouraged teamwork because it’s more fun.
Yes and then they went and made the final personal story mission a dungeon……… go figure.

Solo friendly doesn’t mean you can do everything period end of story in the game without teaming up. In fact, Anet has a question about solo on their FAQ that’s been there since long before the game launched. This is what it says…
Will I be able to solo?
Yes, at least, much of the time. You can participate in your personal storyline, crafting, and dynamic events without anyone else around, if you choose. A notable exception to this, however, is the final story quest “Victory or Death” which involves successfully going through the Arah Dungeon in the Cursed Shore. As with all dungeons, a full party of five players is recommended. Any dynamic event listed as a Group Event will also be difficult or impossible to complete alone.
This is from the Guild Wars 2 wiki.
Orr is bad and Arenanet should feel bad about it.
Solo-friendly means you can get to lvl 80 just by yourself.
Earlier, Anet had something else in their FAQ before this post came out and I’m paraphrasing here, but all it says would you’d be able to attain max level without grouping.
It also said, that said we understand that MMOs should have things that require the community to come together.
They’ve tried to do both, but they’re never going to get the balance right to please everyone.
This game CAN be soloed. I think they should have made it so the personal story could be finished solo (and it can’t be). But aside from that, I think they did a pretty good job.

I guess what they meant was only the starter areas where solo friendly. In high lvl areas where a character has max out exotic armor and max out exotic weapons completing events unless they are just straight forward is impossible. Take on a champion by yourself and you’re dead in 2 or 3 hits.. To make matters worse in the high level areas like Orr I’m almost surprised to run across another player. In Orr there are certain Karma NPC I want to spawn but I know there is no chance in hell of being able to complete the meta event required alone.
I’m not saying they should make the game easy, I’m just saying it’s a bit unfair to players who want to complete an event but can’t when no other players are around or no players that are around is interested in doing it.
Also is it just me or does anyone else think champions (yes I know they are the bosses in the game) are way overpowered?
I solo in Orr very frequently. I enjoy the zone’s aesthetics.
There are specific events that I cannot solo (pretty sure that they are not soloable at all actually) but most events are pretty easy (and were even before getting max gear).
Some champions can be soloed, though I am sure that build matters quite a bit. I do not think they are overpowered at all.

what this person said.. that is all it means
solo friendly doesn’t mean however single player

Champions and group events are easy, I dunno what you’re talking about. Longest champion I’ve fought took me about 30 minutes to fight solo.
There are a few, though, that are nigh-unsoloable. I used to shy away from Champions the first few weeks I played the game (I solo mostly); but I found almost all champions between, say, 15 and 65-ish are soloable once you figure out what their “moves” are.
Some are bags of HP, others hit extremely hard, and still others do knockdown, etc (those I hate). Once you figure those out (and stay mobile), they’re not too bad.
At levels lower than that range, your HP suck so badly it’s not worth messing with them at all. At higher levels, their skills, HP, and sheer damage make it equally worthless to deal with them.
What I found interesting was that the higher level ones are quite easy to DUO if random aggro doesn’t get involved.
I’ve done 100% world completion on 2 characters completely solo. Just avoid the tougher group events and it’s pretty simple.

Nice, how was the champ guarding the skill point south of shelter in CS?

It’s a roamer. You can get the point without aggroing it at all.
funny it seemed pretty static the 30 mins I stood and watched
Orr is bad and Arenanet should feel bad about it.
Indeed.
I like some parts of Orr, and the temple events can be interesting mechanics. But overall, it’s sooo boring compared to all the other zones. No hearts either, which I find kind of strange. And all risen, and everything is just undead all the time. Making three zones worth of it was just too much.
(I also really wish Arah story mode hadn’t been a dungeon)

Well maybe they have changed that like everything else in Orr too. I took it solo with four characters but it has been something like two months since the last one.
It used to do a little patrolling route back and forth that platform where the point is and also down the stairs far enough to be able to crab the point without aggroing. Just had to kill the normal mobs next to the point.

Nineteen times this.
Why the need to play everything solo? Get some friends! It’s WAY more fun to adventure with other people.

It still does that. I just got the SP a few weeks ago, along with 100% Orr completion on my newest lvl 80. Did it solo.
I purely solo Orr. I don’t really see how this game is not solo friendly.
I solo Orr, but, very rarely. Ranger effort vs. reward not worth it.

Lol, you can solo champions, even some legendary bosses (even the high level ones); but of course it take time, and if you arent good enough you are gonna die until you learn. Also be prepared to chose carefully the skills you are gonna use and your strategy.
Since they can die in solo, they arent overpowered.

I am about as annoyed with that one as you are but a single skill point in the doesn’t suddenly make it ‘not solo friendly’. Even if we are just counting skill points that is less half a percent of the game.
It is really tiring that everything someone doesn´t agree with gets the “unfair” monicker. No, it is not unfair. Unfair: Player A gets some advantage by the game mechanic, like a 50 % bonus to damage, when fighting a champion solo, Player B, playing the same class with the same build, does not. It may be unfortunate for you that you cannot singlehandedly kill everything in this game, but that does not make the game unfair or bad.
GW2 is probably the most solo-friendly MMO out there, but that doesn’t you can solo 100% of it. The only events you can’t complete by yourself are group events and they are not that common, plus some of them can be done alone with a little bit of effort. I cleaered 2 out 3 camps from Karkas by myself, and solo the giant Ooze champion in Orr while afk and these are lv 80 maps for kitten sake. People should really stop making mountains out of molehills.
How am I supposed to take you seriously when you say that “only the starter area is solo-friendly”?
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”

Uhmm OP if you want a 100% solo game then you should just play single player games instead.
Yeah I think general pve mapping/leveling wise it’s pretty easy to solo. I mean sure group events might not be soloable..but that’s why they’re group events? And champions are hard, but..they’re champions. Kinda makes sense. They also aren’t impossible to solo, but it’s not the easiest thing in the world. As far as Orr goes..you really never see anyone? I mean generally when I go into Orr anymore, it’s Cursed Shore, but there are ALWAYS people there. Farmin and stuff. Other areas of zones probably are pretty empty except for temple runs, but whatever. I mapped most of the world solo, but tbh I much prefer playing with other people. Only real advantage to mapping solo is that I can do it quicker than if I have other people needing different things, but I find that it’s more fun to play together. Regardless if you like soloing, that’s fine too.

I solo most of the time. Just because not every single thing is soloable, doesnt mean the game isnt solo friendly.
