Well, Gaile isn’t or wasn’t the ‘PR’ person, nor is she infallible. If you read all her posts, you will see she makes mistakes from time to time, just like any other human being.

Public relations (PR) is the practice of managing the spread of information between an individual or an organization (such as a business, government agency, or a nonprofit organization) and the public.

Sounds pretty much exactly like her job.

Well, you would be wrong. The DDE changed at the same time as the Heroic Edition was released, as the Digital Deluxe version is just the regular version (changed at that time to be named Heroic with different items included), but deluxe (meaning including some extras).

Nevertheless, since you are inclined to weigh her words heavily, she has given you the policy about retro-active distribution of DDE items, and, as such, no one will be receiving them.

Sorry for your loss.

“According to our Marketing Team, the items you mention are from the Heroic Edition, not the Digital Deluxe Edition.

Again, if that is indeed what she is referencing, then this becomes rather misinforming.

Also, I understand Arenanet’s stand on the issue, obviously.
(I don’t have the items)

I just feel like the whole thing screams bad marketing and misinformation

That quote from Gaile is referencing an old version of the digital deluxe (about a year ago) and is a response to another poster asking about the it. The old version was different. Sorry for the confusion there. I should have pointed that out as well as putting in the Source. That was my mistake. Mea culpa.

I prefer not to edit, “correct”, or remove parts of “Red Posts” so I left her response to the other poster about the old version in. What I do is highlight the important parts that are relevant. The part that I want to indicate that this is their policy and how they handle this.

This part:
Please keep in mind that with any developer, offerings and prices change over the life of a game. Just as your local department store doesn’t give this week’s bonus B1G1F offer to someone who purchased the a pair of shoes six months or a year ago, we’re not giving the new items to those who have had the pleasure of playing the game for the last many months.

Ok…wasn’t her job at the time of the quote in question. I really think this is more something taken care of by Marketing, but whatever. She wasn’t a PR person, however you want to define it, at the time. Unless Support Liaison, and the authority on Account Issues is the PR person. If so, I stand corrected.

Again…. I am aware Arenanet is not giving us the items….

The reason why just doesn’t seem to make any sense.

It is obviously a promotion. No-one denies that.

It is simply not labeled as such.

The reason why it is not labeled as such is because of the outrage that would ensue over the subject.

A promotion labeled in such a way that it doesn’t look like a promotion.
Game packages added/relabeled/altered/etc.
Items that are not “exclusive” but still desirable.

All rolled into one big “you can’t touch me” loophole.

My point is I own a Digital Deluxe copy of the game.

According to the image on buy.guildwars2.com, the Digital Deluxe have all of the listed items.
.

No you bought a specific version of the digital deluxe version back when it first rleased, this is not that version. Easy.

liaison
a person who acts as a link to assist communication or cooperation between groups of people.

I think that seems to fit the definition of public relations quite well, actually. They’re both about communication between the two groups.
