I understand its purpose, in general, but how exactly is Diminishing Returns supposed to function? Was something recently changed to affect how early/often it triggers?

I just came back from a 2 week hiatus, so I decided to play around in the Silverwastes to work on my Tyrian Masteries. However, not even more than 15 minutes in, the amount of exp I was receiving from events took a sudden nose dive. I went from 18k in one event to 14k in the next. Then soon after it dropped to 12k, 10k, 8k, and so on…

I played in the Silverwastes for a couple days back when HoT first came out, and I would usually net a consistent 18k exp per successful event. So why did this happen this time around? Why was this system penalizing me for “farming” when I had barely touched the map today (or even in the past month)?

So what I want to know is…
Why does the programming in the game punish players for playing the game, and what messed up algorithm decides when it is an appropriate time to trigger this inconvenient penalty?

Were you doing the same events over and over? Move around the map and do the red, blue, indigo, and amber events to avoid DR.

They didn’t really put much content in to HoT, so to cover that up and make it look like it had some meat on its bones they introduced “Masteries”. Because Masteries require you to replay content a ton to get XP, they needed to ensure that you couldn’t easily farm the XP and then come on the forums and complain about having nothing to do so they tightened up some of the event DR.
