Disable Auto-Deployment of Weapons
In other instances, with the classic example being the poison mist produced by the plant enemies in The Silverwastes, running into or passing through this mist automatically deploys weapons and acts to (a) irritate the hell out of me and (b) slow me down considerably – it accomplishes nothing and frankly causes more harm to my gameplay than good. Worse, when it happens all I can do is attempt repeatedly to re-stow weapons only to have them pop out once again. Sadly the only cure for this is to walk around unarmed, but even then the unarmed avatar automatically adopts that ‘ready for combat’ pose.
Anything that deals damage to you is going to put you into combat which will also reduce your movement speed.
so you’re complaining about being in combat when you don’t want to?
cause you only deply weapons in combat.
or when using some of the permanent infinite gathering tools
I argue that its a pointless animation and frankly serves no practical purpose. Any chance of having it discontinued so we can get down to the serious business of fighting and where necessary retreating without being crippled by it?
It serves exactly the purpose you mentioned, getting put in combat reduces your movement speed forcing you to deal with the threat at hand or escape at a reduced speed. Sheeting your weapons has nothing to do with this. In fact you can run at maximum speed out of combat with weapons drawn.

Forward movement speed is 100% or 294 units per second out of combat (210 units per second in combat).
All bonuses get applied to this base value thus when you are put in combat you are automatically slowed by aproximately 28-29%. Working as intended.
