I posted this before, but several posters quickly derailed the thread with personal insults and such. Lets keep it civil this time.

With the World Events guaranteeing rares, it has become everyone’s favorite farming spot. Because they have timers, people are guesting to other servers in an attempt to find a server where events are about to occur.

And why wouldn’t you, when hitting the Maw shaman for 20 seconds net you a yellow, with a high chance of exotics?

This has caused huge lag/overflow problems at the events themselves. The events themselves are no longer fun to do because of the large amount of people.

There’s obviously technical limitations to the engine and bandwith that is hard to get around. So I’m going to assume that fixing lag/culling/overflow issue is a engine-level problem, something difficult to solve.

So I propose the following solutions.

1. Decrease rare/exotic drop rate from 90% or whatever to 25%. Still quite high, but not nearly guaranteed like it is right now.

OR

2. Limit chest to one account per character.

I propose these solutions because I think they’re well within the realm of possibility of you guys. You changed loot tables, so obviously that shouldn’t be too hard, and you have character/account based rewards, so that too shouldn’t be too bad.

If not, then the problems with lag and people getting kicked out to overflow will continue. Now while I’d love for you guys to fix that, or make rewards home-server-character-specific, but I imagine that takes a lot more effort to do. If you can do it though, great! But if not, at lease please consider the mentioned solutions.

TL;DR Loot rate for World Events too high for the minimum effort they require, causing World Events to be not fun. Barring technical solutions (Which I understand is hard) should nerf loot rates, because I honestly don’t mind less loot if the events themselves are much more fun to do.

For one, I see absolutely no signs of exos being more common from these bosses, with the exception of final rest.

Yes we are seeing more exos linked now, but that is mainly because there are easily 10 times the amount of people doing them now, which is a good thing.

Even with this decent rare chance, it is still far more profitable to simply farm something else, however this is a welcome break for those of us who have had the worst rng luck imaginable up to this point.

And who can easily go trough 5 dungeons or fractals without seeing any sign of a rare.

Lets be perfectly honest here, the only content that isn’t faceroll is 30+ fractals, and those also give crap loot.

On a diffrent note, I would not mind if they limited chest to one per account per day, that is just overall fair to people who have focused on 1 char instead of 5.

Lag or no lag, I am enjoyable world events far more now, because people actually show up! and it will eventually calm down some, so the lag will go away anyways.

There isn’t. Which is why you see these hordes of people descending on the World Events. It’s not their fault, it’s the system’s fault. Make loot this easy to achieve. Of course people will focus on these spots. Look at all the threads popping up complaining about lag and overflow issues. They are proof of the massive influx of players these Events have seen.

The biggest problem are Behemoth, Maw, and Fire Elemental. They are just waaay too easy. But even the Dragons, while taking a bit more time, is still pretty much braindead as it is. Events this easy shouldn’t have loot this good, or EVERYONE will do them, straining the system.

I agree. In my opinion it is massively out of balance with other reward systems in the game, and the lagging mess of players supports that opinion. I managed to auto attack once maybe twice at the Maw Shaman before he died within a few seconds, and walked off with a Rare, some Greens and Blues. Most encounter mechanics are completely irrelevant with the amount of players at these events, its boring, its a frame rate disaster, its laggy, its not fun at all – yet the rewards are arguably the greatest in the game considering their frequency, time to complete and difficulty (or complete lack of any). These are the flaws with these public ‘dynamic events’. Not easy to balance in terms of rewards and challenge.

If you like it, enjoy it while it lasts because I have no doubt at all it will be changed – once again.

Even with Dragon timer website, you rarely end up only using 2 mins per encounter though, the thing that balances it out is the amount of time you end up waiting for it to start etc.

How ever I can agree that Maw and Behemoth’s loot should not be as good, they are extremly simplistic and fast encounters, fire element on the other hand is slightly harder, has a decent hp pool, aswell as a rather long pre-event.

As far as dragons and temples are concerned, you rarely see jormag go down in less then 15 mins, and the other usually take 10min + which means you could’ve done 2-3 cof p1 runs and gained 4-6 times as much just from the coin reward alone.

As for Lag and Overflow, Its THE new Buzz, of course everyone and theyr grandma is gonna show up, which causes lag, however the intrest will die down alot over the next few days, infact there are less people on the events every day already.

Personally I think the chests ought to be one per boss per account per day. That way people still have a dozen or so to do if they want to get lots, but there’s no incentive to use alts and guesting to farm the Frozen Maw, etc. It also encourages people to do the temples if they want to maximize their rares.

Also FYI, it is in fact 1 guaranteed rare or better per chest, not just 90% (in-game dev confirmed). If you don’t get a rare from your chest, you’re either too low level or it’s a bug.

With there being 10+ chests available, once per account is a very small limitation. People would still be able to get lots of chests, it just would encourage players to diversify their play to do more different things, much like the goal of the new dailies having WvW, Keg Brawl, region specific, etc activities in them.

I agree that the drop rate should be reduced for most of these boss encounters. The reward is simply too high considering how little effort these world events take. I don’t want them to go back to way they were before either, but I think they can settle on a happy medium between that and what they have now.

It is, and it’s Anet’s fault for giving you that choice. It’s only natural that people like you will do these events repeatedly with alts. Not your fault at all, Anet just made a system that’s greatly encourages everyone to go there.

Anet needs to lower the incentive a little bit.

Personally, I have 3 level 80 characters and more on their way. It’s not about being punished for using alts. You could easily do the Maw on one character, Jormag on another, and Teq on a third. It’s not a punishment at all. It would simply encourage more diverse game play and less lag. Even after you spent the 2-4 hours to do all the chest events, there is still plenty of different things to do in the game.

I used to like dungeons, until i realised the lucky get rich from it, while I end up wasting my time.

Ursan we’ve already seen what these events look like with low incentive, I’ve seen graves with more activity..

It is far better as it is now.. honestly it seems the main problem people are having with new system.

“Oh, But there are so many people it causes it to lag”
“Oh, But there as so many people that I got put into overflow”

Both of those issues will become smaller over time, and guesting work both ways, while people from low pop servers can join your very high pop server to get theyr dynamic events quicker, people on very high pop can just as easily join a low/med pop server if they prefer there are less people at the events.

Personally I am on a high pop server, and there is no lag what so ever, when I guest on very high pop servers, sure there is alot of lag but despite that it is far more enjoyable due to the amount of people participating!

I myself got a chest with no rares in it. A guildy got one as well. so… maybe its a fluke.

So first there was an ocean of complainers that wanted guaranteed rare from dragon chest because it was so unrewarding. Now ocean of complaints is rising about 1 guaranteed rare from those chests is too good…
It only goes to show that players have no clue what they want or how game issues should be solved.
If another solution proposed were to be applied, say decreasing chance to 90%, im willing to bet there will be another sea of complaints on forums.

However in this case it seems alot of the complaining is due to the amount of players doing these events, not about the rares themselves.. which quite honestly is not a good reason to revert the changes, it is however a good reason to improve server power, lower performance requirements etc, stuff that could be bloody useful in general.

While those are the best solutions, it’s also probably the hardest technically. You don’t just snap your finger and increase performance/server bandwith. Expecting those as solution is to be unrealistic and ignoring technical limitations.

Just saying, I kinda like being surprised by events and the illusion of not feeling like I am in a scripted world.

Yes people are annoyed by RNG on purchased things like keys for black lion chests, the Mystic Toilet, and any of those purchasable chests during holiday events, due to to the feeling of wasted money be it real money from gem purchases or time spent getting gold. I will also add loot in general.

This is a bit different in my opinion. I say leave loot as is but make it so third party timers outside the game cannot so accurately predict when most major events in the world happen.

Have you actually looked at rare prices? They haven’t deflated by a significant degree whatsoever. Ectos have deflated, but they were too expensive as it was. The new price of ectos is fantastic.

And like I said before if the lag bothers you, you have 2 guesting slots.

Time is money, and if you miss the event you have to wait, which means you lose time and money.

There is already enough rng in the current spawning that you can’t just pop in 1 second before boss spawn deano

I’m happy about the changes. Ectos have finally dropped back down to a reasonable prices (pre patch they were ranging between 35-45s each), and now I can get them myself at a reasonable rate. I don’t have to farm as much gold, and I can finally craft some exotics for my other character.

When I disagree with something, of course it’s my opinion. I simply posted what I thought of the matter and proposed solutions.

But I think you’re misunderstanding me a bit. I do love the loot. More loot is always good. If there were none of this lag/culling/overflow issues, I wouldn’t mind at all. But there is. And fixing engine-level issues is a very complex task (Which I don’t even know if it’s possible. Look at how long it’s been taking them to fix culling.), as opposed to just changing loot tables. Which is why I propose these solutions.

This is actually a great example of something the player base really wants (Better loot) actually impacting the game negatively (lag/overflow issues.)

Don’t get me wrong, I love getting good loot. But I also still want to have fun while doing these events, while still getting decent loot. This is why I think making the chests per account/dropping it to maybe 25% would discourage the horde a little bit, and yet still make it pretty rewarding (as compared to previously anyways).

I actually tried. I guested to Devona’s Rest to do Jormag, but the lag was terrible there. And I think it’s one of the lower-populated servers.

I also assure you, my computer’s specs are the least of my worries. But even then, getting better computers to compensate for Anet’s mistakes is not a good solution.

The lag problem can be fixed without decreasing the Fun (rewards). The problem as a whole with GW2, is that there are not enough variety of rewards (items in the game). So the few places that have the few items people want are going to always be crowded.

Look at the game as a whole, before deciding to nerf the few reward items available.

You’re simplifying the problem. The reason why the WOrld Events are crowded to the point of hitting the limits of the game because they’re incredible rewarding for how easy they are. While Orr/Dungeons were profitable before, they were also arguably difficult.

You have to bring the reward/effort ratio to be the same. To do that you have to either.

1. Lower World Event loot
2. Make Lower World Event more challenging
3. Increase loot everywhere else
4. Lower difficulty of events everywhere else.

I don’t see 2/4 happening, and I don’t see 3 happening either because they’ll make rares almost masterwork-level (i.e drops like candy) and I’m sure Anet does not want rares to be that common.

HotW path 1 actually takes like 20 minutes to do at least. When I say “stupid” I mean the time required. And Maw, especially in a big zerg, lasts no more than 5 minutes. And you also have absolutely no risk of dying at all.

personally i like that rares are fairly easy to get from these events. This greatly promotes people to go back into the world and do something rather than just log in to do dailies. I feel like dungeon loot needs to be buffed since getting all blues in an arah run and whites on lupi himself is not good balance.

Like others have said the new changes are fine. If anything, rewards from other areas should be buffed aswell. Loot quality has been substandard for far too long.

Let me start with, I have 5 level 80’s and have been farming the new chests with them, but yeah I agree, this loot is just too good. If it’s the best option for loot, it is going to draw everyone from other activities in the game.

Also, it’s just too much too quickly. It’s completely changing the economy, if there is the direction they want to go, I don’t know, but any change should be minor and progress higher, because the economy has already been established. Any big changes affect people’s previous investments and people’s previous accomplishments.

I agree, that a reduction from about 99% chance to get a rare out of chests down to 25%, or making it 1 chest per account is what is needed.

Yet again people in the community are complaining about ANet doing something that they did because it was requested by people in the community. Many times, systems implemented have consequences that were not foreseen. Perhaps this is something the collective “we” should bear in mind.

I’ve attended several chest -spawning events, and have yet to see an overflow for any of those zones. It isn’t happening everywhere.

The rush to them now is at least in part because they are new, and because rares are valuable. If the price of rares drops as a result of increased supply, and the novelty wears off, will usage drop off? This may be a non-problem in 2-3 weeks.

i’m on sos. That’s one of the most populated server. And it’s populated enough that we get overflow sometime.

ya so I got no lag. I dont’ know why you get lag. My fps is fine and everything.

It’s weird when you mention lag. I thought it’ll be fps problem. Are you sure it’s lag and not your frame per second?

Just want to comment on the one-per-account versus one-per-character…

There aren’t really any big advantages to multiple alts except maybe farming Final Rest since you can do that multiple times in a day instead of just once. There are enough different dungeons, events, chest rewarding events, etc. that it’s just not possible for one player to run out of stuff in a day.

There are, however, some huge downsides to multiple characters. As an altaholic, I’m familiar with all of them.

I have to level each of them through fractals separately. I will likely never have ascended gear for all of them as 1 laurel per day means 30 days per amulet, and another 20 or so for the infusion. I have to pay 15-20g every single time one of them hits 80 to get them in exotic gear, and that’s after paying the 15-20g cost of a new character slot in the first place. I’m stuck buying multiple copies of the same dye since dye is per character instead of per account.

Now, I live with all those limitations because I enjoy creating characters who fit a specific role really well. Can I pretty please be allowed to at least farm Final Rest a couple times a day in exchange?
