I was in Southsun the other day, and before you ask…yes, I know about the daily limit on passiflora. This isn’t that. Well, while I’m here I may as well mention I think they should lift that.

The main point, however, is that it happened to me with saplings rather than plants. I had been gathering stuff all over the island, and I came to the steam curtain. Within range on my minimap were 3 Cypress Saplings and an Ancient Sapling. I logged one of the Cypresses, and the other 2 disappeared, though thankfully the Ancient didn’t.

Did some wires get crossed and the passiflora limit in that map is affecting other harvestables now?

I’ve noticed this with various mining nodes in all sorts of maps lately. I think I saw some plants do it, as well, but I’m not 100% sure about that.

They will be there on the mini-map; then, suddenly, they disappear. I’ve tried walking over to where they were on the map, but nothing is there.

Reminds me a bit of the old ‘disappearing Candy Corn nodes’.

That does sounds like a bug of some sort. The T6 nodes have a per character per map per day limit (so that you can’t go to another version of the map and harvest them all again) but not anything else that I know of.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Well, this happened in lower level maps, as well as Straits of Devastation. I first noticed it on one of my key runners, so that was probably a starter zone, or the next one up.

I’m sure it is some kind of transitory bug. No biggie. =)

It happens in pretty much every zone, but its rare. Sometimes its normal nodes that show on the minimap, but vanish as you approach them. Sometimes its nodes that pop into view and then disappear. I have seen plenty of candy corn nodes pop up and go away in Orr, lol.

Had that 3-4 days ago in Timberline Fall. There was a real nice spot with a lot of
t4 trees .. harvest it with all my 18 chars for maybe 1.5 hours .. and suddenly the
most of trees were away or changed their position. It was still the same IP and also
the platinum nodes were still at the same spots.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.

I’ve seen it happen once and a while. I’m pretty sure it’s not a bug, it’s database query lag. Think about it… The game has to query up all the nodes in your area, then query what ones you’ve already harvested to know whats available… Then sub-set that into the mini-map view. I’m sure that’s a very simple view of the overhead involved but I’ll bet something like that is what’s going on.

Considering how many DB hits they have to make for each player I’m surprised that it works at all.

It’s DR. If you harvest too many of the same type of node within an area, all nodes of that type within that area will vanish. You can easily trigger it by hopping instances and gathering the same area over and over.

Nope .. the only non T6 nodes that have DR is mithril. I quite harvest a lot T3 and T4
mats with multiple chars on multiple IPs and they have never dissapeared.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.

I don’t think it is database query or DR, as it happens when first entering a map on the first play session, whether that play session is after 24 hours or a week.

It seems like a bug that’s just cropped up recently, or returned (if it is the same as the Candy Corn node bug).

Candy Corn is a different thing. The nodes are simply still there but are hidden and
sometimes the hiding mechanism simply lags behind the render thread or whatever
and so you see them shortly and then the disappear.

Here it seems that for some reasons simply the function that places the wood on
zone creation was triggered again.

I’ve seen nodes blip in for a moment but not there for an extended period of time only to disappear.

Nope .. the only non T6 nodes that have DR is mithril. I quite harvest a lot T3 and T4
mats with multiple chars on multiple IPs and they have never dissapeared.

I’ve noticed that too while harvesting the cluster of Cypress in malchor’s. After a few rounds the mithril nodes stopped respawning but the trees were still doing their usual thing.

The logging limit has been on the map about as long as the passiflora limit. It’s pretty high, so I’ve only encountered it a few times.

I suspect it’s a limit that applies to every map, but there are so few maps that can have that many trees of the same sort. Even if it’s a bug, it’s super rare and only affects a few nodes at most.

It’s per character. Also note that when I said “area” I’m not referring to the entire map. I’m not sure how big an area actually is, but I’d guess it’s based on this. You’re basically only allowed to gather X amount of Y within an area every ~hour.

It’s per character. Also note that when I said “area” I’m not referring to the entire map. I’m not sure how big an area actually is, but I’d guess it’s based on this. You’re basically only allowed to gather X amount of Y within an area every ~hour.

Farms are on a 24 hour timer like rich nodes or orichalcum/ancient wood.
Mithril is also on a 24 hour timer if you have harvested whatever the maximum
is, after that you can also not harvest mithril on other IPs of the same map.

Everthing else you can harvest more or less endless beside the fact that there
is the normal 1 hour respawn timer.

And yes, of course its all per character .. one of the reason i have 18 characters

I was planning to purchase a set of unlimited tools for my main character so that I can run around higher level zones and harvest for hours on end without needing to stop by a town several times. Hunting down nodes is a very relaxing activity and I enjoy doing it in every game I play.

If I’m understanding this correctly, I won’t be able to harvest for hours uninterrupted because diminishing return kicks in fairly quickly and makes the nodes not reset until the next day? Which would make the unlimited tools rather pointless.

I’ve been noticing disappearing/appearing nodes for months now, if not for at least a year, especially in Orr. And often i see candy corn pop here and there. I thought this was going to be an instance of ending up on a different megaserver, because the layout of nodes isn’t consistently across maps. But this is something else entirely. I’ve never experienced it, but whether it’s a bug or not it should definitely be reported as one.

It’d only really impact you if you were planning to farm tier 6 mats such as orichalcum ore and ancient logs. What I also don’t think is mention on the wiki is that those nodes also have a 6 hour cool down as well. So if you do a node farm right before daily reset, you won’t be able to do the node farm on that character until the 6 hours have elapsed.

As far as disappearing nodes goes, I believe it’s because there’s a cap on how many you can get per map or area on a map. Once you hit this, the related nodes disappear. You’ll see this with the T6 nodes if you hopped maps before hitting a cap and in SW with the rich mithril nodes.

I’m going off memory as it’s been some time since I last node farmed for T6 mats. The cap for Orr maps are 5 orichalcum ore nodes and 4 ancient log nodes. SSC and FGS both have a cap of 2 each. SSC does have that rich node which increases the amount but it’s out of the way.

If you really want to harvest a lot, you should do that in midlevel zones because
stuff like platin, iron, hard wood and seasoned wood will give you the most money.
T5 wood and mithril simply is not worth it.

Ori and ancient wood were always limited.

Do we know what the limit is?
I harvested 12 mithril today (not nodes- mithril ore pieces), absolutely none in the prior 2 full days. Now, for the first time ever- I’m seeing these nodes disappear. Before seeing this thread today, I’ve never heard of this.

Yeah. I think I only got like 5(?) whenever I did it. Kind of disappointing when expecting 10 like the other rich nodes.

Yes, T6 nodes also happen to be different than the other tier nodes just like how the elder log nodes are different from mithril.

This has been happening a long time with ore nodes. They appear for just a second on the minimap, than disappear. One time I was near enough to actually SEE the node appear: it was a raw candycorn node. Than it vanished.

I still regularly see Candy Corn nodes on the minimap that vanish as you approach them on many maps.

I’ve not experienced this issue with any other nodes.

I think it’s a bug somewhere in the spawning code for nodes, as I once ran across the farm node right outside Beetletun not being harvestable(or even on the mini-map) and the nodes where only partially spawned on the map itself, like they only spawned half-way then bugged out.
