So for those that remember Wintersday from the first year, we got to actually earn our mini pets by crafting them. We needed glue, stuffing, a frame, etc to make our minis. It was a great reward to work towards in game for everything we did. It was fun.

Now they are on the Gem Store. For 350 Gems each.

Why not give others the joy of making them like we did the first year, instead of making them buy them? I was really disheartened to see that these are now in the Gem Store, instead of being able to be crafted like they used to be. They took an in game reward and tossed it into the Gem Store instead.

This is just really adding to the whole “buy your rewards instead of earning them” philosophy that Anet has been following lately. Just really disheartening to see this.

I agree. Items that were ingame rewards for playing should remain so and each Holliday should have kept this little min game for those that don’t have those minis yet. Or they could have been added to a holiday vendor and you buy them with holiday materials. Not be taken out and put in the gem store.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

You’re assuming they won’t have a new craftable mini. Wait until Wintersday is actually out before complaining about it.

imo It doesn’t matter if they add more craftable minis. That’s not the point. I don’t think that ingame rewards should be moved to the gem store. There should be a separation between the two. If it’s something you could earn by playing it shouldn’t be taken out and made a purchase. If the original way to earn it can’t be kept then it should be made so it’s earned in game by a different method, such as an ingame vendor

Those mini’s are old. Let go of the past to make way for the future. Earn gold, convert to gems. That’s a way to earn them ingame without trying to keep an archaic holiday mechanic in place.

I agree with the general argument to not move rewards to the gemstore but these minis have been gem store items from year 1. There was the option to craft 2 and buy the missing ones from the store. If they keep them earnable this year I dont see the problem.

The different sides will never agree about this issue, but I’m firmly in the camp that games should follow the usual consumer model that most of the rest of the world uses: ’Here’s a specific item, buy it if you want it’.

This is one of the reasons why I’ve stuck with GW2, and keep chucking money at ‘em. There are other MMOs that I would otherwise prefer, but after one too many teasing ’Here’s a specific item, it’s only available in this gambling bag’ and ’Here’s a specific item, now jump through all these hoops like a good little kitten and we’ll let you have it’, I told them to stick it, and walked.

So I was delighted to see all these things return to the gem store, and immediately bought them. Result!

Yes, yes. I know that’s hyperbole (and hopefully) will never happen but it demonstrates what I’m saying by extending the argument to another ingame earnable item. Old, earnable ingame rewards should not become gemstore purchases, for large things or for small things.

Im just so happy that I were able to craft all of them, before Anet started the gemstore ripoff with them …

The only thing about wintersday im not happy witjh so far is, that they didn’t brign back over the last years the other year 1 wintersday minis, either as gemstore pets or in a way to earn them via wintersday achievements like the infiniratium ,the snowman, the festive golem and festivoo
In regard of the gemstore, these would have made like a 1000 times much more sense to be put into the gemstore, than the wintersday minis that you could craft!!

This here is just one of many examples of Anets kind of stupid decisions they made, that are simply in absolutely NO WAY comprehendable (at least out of the view from a player!!), out of which reason they made the things like they made them.

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

I wasn’t here last year. I just came back recently, before the Halloween event. If I was here last year, and saw them in the Gem Store, I’d most likely be saying the same thing again.

Point is, in game rewards should be earned in game. Regardless of how old they are. They shouldn’t be removed and then put into the Gem Store for Anet to make a quick buck off of something we already had for free.

And the year before, and the year before that, as well. Kind of a tradition of being in the Gem Store, since inception.

Who knows? Maybe they will be on in-game vendors, as well, this year. /shrug

Yep, here’s Dulfy’s 2012 wintersday guide for the minis:

“All of these minis can be either brought in the gemstore for 350 gems or crafted using the toy frame and components acquired from Tixx’s infinirarium dungeons.”

Maybe some people are happy with removal of ingame rewards and restricting access to the gemstore but I’m not personally seeing this as a positive feature.

However, if people are happy with this and don’t see a reason to complain about it, I’m sure ANet will be glad to continue removing ingame rewards to the gemstore, for your future shopping delight.

They’ve been sold in the gem store every year too.

The first year it was possible to get enough materials to craft 3 (or 4 thanks to a bug where some rewards had to be reissued) and then they were all available to buy in the gem store so you could complete the set if you wanted to.

In 2013 and 2014 it was possible to get 1 from the meta achievement reward, and then buy the rest from the gem store.

I’m fully expecting it to be the same this year. Which means I’m expecting a lot of complaints from people who bought them all when they find out they could have gotten a free one.

Yeah, apologizes for bringing up an old issue (I guess?). This is my second Wintersday. I haven’t been here for the others. Only the first one, and now this one. So for you guys, this is a common thing. For me, this is new.

Still, it bugs me to see an in game item that we worked for, now behind the Gem Store. In game rewards should never be removed from the actual game to be placed in the Gem Store. People should be able to earn them in game, like they originally were. Not have to buy their rewards now.

Once again: they have not been removed.

They were always available both in-game and in the gem store and there is no reason to think this year will be any different.

For the old legendaries you can skip the gem conversion.

I’m with you. Each year I’ve managed to pick up another of the minis without buying them, but I’m very disappointed that they used the crafting idea once and then threw it away. Now it’s possible to get the newest minis just by opening presents, which is cool, but I want the original events back, just like I want the original Halloween quest event back.

All cool stuff are in store now and in game we have bags that contain another bags that contain random trash.

Today I emptied my whole bank from stuff I got in jungles to gift flute to a friend and found out that I’m nowhere near the flute :c
Only had enough gold to buy tiger mini, so I did. No idea what so ever why we couldn’t get this tiger in game like we are in jungles actually?

Apparently I paid $50 for a game where no cute tigers in jungles only bags and bags with crap.. those greedy developers are going ridiculous :c

At least thank you game that I can sell everything I have to buy a little cute tiger cub.
