Disconnection issues

Lol, and some junk items.
Welcome to the Internet, exposing characters since the early 80’s.
During night time….
If you switch back to the map you dc’d from your participation is restored, so always try be in a party or squad.

and 3 copper on looting
Group up so you have a taxi next time.

You shouldn’t be forced to be in a party or squad to rejoin the map you disconnected from.
The whole taxi kitten is annoying.
They should just make it like GW1 where you have a server list and just join the server you want. People wouldn’t randomly be placed on different servers and could just join an active event map without needing someone to taxi them in.

This. Map participation is counted on a map ip basis. So if you leave and come right back to the same map ip, your participation remains, so long as you don’t take long enough for the participation to wither from inactivity.

While I don’t disagree, this has been around long enough that it is a well known problem of the megaserver and even upon Anet’s addition of the megaserver they tried placing in failsafes to allow you into certain maps.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Anet needs to implement a return to previous map instance option, and reserve a player’s spot in that map for like 5 minutes upon disconnect.
Anet also needs to get rid of that insanely fast “no longer participating in event due to inactivity”, unless they implement a rally at event mechanic. Heck, it was so poorly coded that it still goes off even if the event was completed and everyone got their loot and left.
Quoted for truth!
I was for hours on VB and i was 200% participation and almost ready to get t4 reward. Then i got dc just before we kill matriach, and when i log back in i was t1 and 0% participation…. this is bs big time!
A-net u are so unfair… whats the point of playing when crap like that happens? All this time for nothing?
Great game… so much fun….
Next time join a commander’s squad and just tell him that you have joined because you have ISP/hardware/bad luck problems. When you relog you’ll end up in the same map. Most commanders won’t have a problem with this.

And to you also the question:
Why do people HAVE TO join a party or squad to rejoin the same map?

Because the current megaserver system has flaws.
You can debate this as much as you want, or go for a poor mans solution and work with what you are given.
The choice is yours.
So, the squad is full, five minutes until reset for DS, JOINED A SQUAD, so did other people…boom reset happens, that’s fine, this is great we are all going to get to do this because we got in a commander’s group beforehand and still are…yah! ummm no…click “join commander’s name here in Dragon Stand” Been in a squad from the beginning, all of us…the answer “sorry the map is full” the whole entire squad can’t get on the same map. No that is not anyone’s solution as it doesn’t always work. The solution is not a 50/50 chance of actually getting in. “poor man” solution did not work for this, so what does it need a “destitute man” solution now?

And to you also the question:

is there any reason to not join a party/squad? because there are a few benefits:
-need to do less damage to get tag credit
-buffs prioritize party/squad members, so more for you
-helps facilitate organization a bit
-targeting assistance
-allows you to get back on the map

The question was why use a squad.
The answer is simple, beacuse it allows you at least some fraction of possibility to save your progress and get rewarded.
Also you didn’t just compare joining on DS 5 minutes after reset (essentially where everyone tries to get on) to joining on VB towards the end of a cycle? The maps, map population and design are so different that my guess is you just wanted to make a fancy referance to the map is full problem.
Well that will be less of a problem on VB than on DS 5 minutes after reset.
So it’s ANet’s fault that your internet disconnected you?

I don’t know, I’m not a Dev I’m just giving a temporary solution while this gets worked.

That no longer participating thing is pretty ridiculous. I had that happen in the middle of soloing half the mobs for the event. -_-
If I didn’t need it for the mastery point I would have just abandoned the event. Which is exactly what I will do if it happens again.
A game should never be held liable for a user’s internet connection problems. So change your OP to something like: “my internet service provider is ruining my game”

re: So it’s ANet’s fault that your internet disconnected you? & A game should never be held liable for a user’s internet connection problems. – No, an internet game should be tolerant of internet connection problems. Which are a fact of life, on the internet. Anet just recently acknowledged the glider deployment issue that players have in Australia(because of the lag) and they’re working on a solution. This is the right thing to do – compensate for internet issues.
the 8 fallacies of network computing. In short, good design expects and recovers from network issues.
The network is reliable.

3.Bandwidth is infinite.
4.The network is secure.
5.Topology doesn’t change.
6.There is one administrator.
7.Transport cost is zero.
8.The network is homogeneous.
