I’m guessing this isn’t just me but I am getting to the point of giving up on this game because of whatever has fouled up the game since new year, with sudden blank screens, multiple attempts required to log in and nothing but whispers about what the devil is going on.

I have no problems with connection. I think you should try contact with Anet support.
