Norn Guardian – Aurora Lustyr (Lv 80)
Mia A Shadows Glow – Human Thief (Lv 80)

So in order to key farm after the update tomorrow there’s a few barriers to overcome.
If it’s the same as the Chinese client you need to be level 20 and complete the personal story up to that point to get a black lion key.
So far the best ideas I have are:
* Get 15 tomes of knowledge (you’re level 2 after the starting zone), you’ll probably get the other 3 levels by completing the level 10 personal story section.
* Have a set of level 17 gear and level 20 gear in your bank
* With the changes to the convenience of crafting maybe there will be numerous cheap and quick ways to get 15 levels in 5 or so minutes. You’d need to get 5 disciplines to 200 or get 2 disciplines to 300 plus 1 discipline to 100 to get 15 levels.
Edited!!!
Word on the street is that you still only need to complete level 10 personal story to unlock a key.
That means…
8 tomes of knowledge
Or
1 crafting Discipline to 300 and 1 discipline to 150
(edited by Shockwave.1230)
According to WP, a key is awarded at Level 10.

That makes it even easier then.

If so, it won’t change the way I key-farm, at all. Maybe just get better rewards. /shrug =)
If a key is just awarded at level 10 (as in, the level up bonus, not doing the PS), then I have about 16 level 20 Experience scrolls wildly cheering at me from my Bank…

And I have over 300 tomes of knowledge that would actually find some use
From what I understood from what the previewers said, the level 10 personal story still gives a key, but you only unlock the personal story at level 10. So you’d have to level to 10 and then start doing the 3-10 personal story to get the key :x
So basically all crafting professions will be more expensive for the lower levels.

That was my impression too, which is why I was suggesting ways to quickly level to 10

Er, why do you say level 20 for the Chinese release, as well as suggest buying level 15+20 gear >_> + 15 level up tomes :x
So basically all crafting professions will be more expensive for the lower levels.
Which means all crafting material prices for lower level gear goes up, which means all loot from lower level zones goes up in value too. So basically new players would be able to sell their stuff on the trading post for more in the end, and higher level stuff would likely stay the same price, therefore it’d be a more level playing field economically for new players.

That’s the information I’ve read is why. Could be wrong, haven’t played on the chinese servers.

You really didn’t read what I had said, did you…

Thought I suggested level 17 gear because you’d be level 2 then gain 15 levels to get to 17. So you’d need level 17 gear to play the level 1-10 personal story, then by the end you’d gain 3 levels and be level 20, so you could put on your level 20 gear
Edit
…and complete your level 20 personal story to get the key.
But that’s not necessary if it’s still obtained at level 10
(edited by Shockwave.1230)
But you don’t need to be level 20? I’ll use the human commoner line as an example.
You play until you are level 10. This unlocks the personal story steps from On the Mend (3) to Commander (10). Once you finish Commander and have the key, nothing else is necessary.
Unless you’re saying that you somehow think you’ll need to be level 15+ to handle the level 10 personal story?

I’ve just confused you is all, I’ve read the chinese client has the Black Lion Key unlocked after completing the level 20 personal story.
But if it stays at level 10 after the feature pack tomorrow, then we don’t need to think about how to get up to level 20.
But, that’s the whole point. According to someone that has played the patch, the key drops at the completion of the Level 10 story.
Thus, your suggestions would be overkill.
Unless, of course, the patch is changed between that play session and the patch tomorrow. It’s possible.

Which is awesome if it’s level 10! Because it’ll be that much easier!!!
Like I said 8 tomes of knowledge OR a crafting disipline to 300 and 150

Ahh…did not see that you edited your response. Might be better in the OP.

Done!!!!
Is it really worth dumping all that money and time to get to 10 though? The return rate doesn’t seem worth it, when compared to the current version which can be done in around 20 minutes.
I’m wondering how god awful leveling those first 10 levels are going to be without the personal story. It really sounds painful and I have no clue why the dev’s believe this is going to increase our enjoyment of the game. Regardless of players key farming or not.
While it’s an interesting idea, crafting to level 10, I’m not sure that the cost of crafting will be cost effective for a key run. Most key runs only net the gem store items and a few silver in items to sell or salvage. The gem store items have the gem value that it would have cost for you to buy them, but not everyone wants or values these items.
If it costs a gold or two to craft to from level 2 to level 10, times the average of 50 times this has to be done then it will cost 50 to 100 gold just get one skin.

Probably not now. But the black lion weapon price may change. It is hard to say.
If it takes 5 minutes to craft to level 10, that’s +25% time onto black lion keys. Which in theory could be transferred to the cost of black lion skins too. If true, then costs go from about 100 gold to 125 gold. But also there’s the cost of the craft leveling, which I would guess is probably 10-15 gold. So we’re probably looking at black lion ticket weapon items going up to 150 gold each if people are able to adopt key farming in accordance with this theory.

I just realized the increase in power from leveling up early on and having gear ready ahead of time could shave time off completing the personal story.

well there’s chef, which you could level up easily to 400 without spending too much (right now, but price may change in the future)
such a waste
keyfarm wasnt even worth the time before when it costs only 15-20 of your time but when you have to pay now gold for it its jsut a waste
go gemshop and buy the key
when i see this thread i understand why sooo many people say they are poor^^
Some people say they only make 12 gold per hour (that is during the double drop rate event), normally it’ll be around 7 gold per hour.
If you are spending 3 gold to reach level10 each time you’ll make -2 gold per hour. (that is a negative behind the 2)
remember to use up all those skill points before you delete those characters ya.
if not using the skill points anyway then just delete away.
Guys, at a preview Video from a German Website they said yesterday it will be lvl 20 personal story For BL Key

And today we had two previewers, that I know of, that have said it’s from the level 10 personal story (also that you unlock 3-10 at level 10).
I just realized I’m total wrong about the craft leveling numbers. The numbers I posted are launch numbers and they were changed when 500 crafting was added. I’ll have to update the numbers tomorrow when I have time to look up what they are now.
I farmed and used more than 70 keys over the last week and still I´m sitting at 8 blue scraps (and a ton of crap).
If it would have taken to get to level 10 to receive the keys, I probably would have blown up my PC . . .
Can´t imagine that it would be worth the time and gold.
One consideration. If you have the scrolls to get to level 20 and if the keys are still at level 10 and level 30, then the most effective use of those scrolls is to go all the way to the level 30 story line to get 2 keys out of it. Doing the 2 sets of stories before the level 30 set should give enough exp that only some leveling to level 30 needs to be done.
So finally, a use for all those birthday “level to 20” scrolls I have lying around.
How quick, do you think it’ll be, to complete queensdale? Where would that get someone? And there’s a small chance of an extra key there too. I can do that map in 30 – 45 minutes, usually.
I know all the starter towns and Lion’s arch gets one to level 7, but that takes at least an hour and a half or so.

Definitely this. I have had so many of these things piling up and I only need like ONE skin on the BL vendor (that rifle skin scarlet used). This might convince me to do some key farming.
Of course we will ALL see how easy/hard it is later today. Either way, I have a blank character slot ready to go.
