Hello, my name is Reece; In-Game I am Montí of the US-Borlis Pass Servers, even though I’m British but enough about me!

I’d like to bring to your attention something that I’m unsure has been discussed yet and that I am rather curious about, as I’ve became more involved in GW2 and the community again, I thought to make a Forum post.

The account number’s next to your name [E.G IxIHReeceHIxI.1390]. The meaning, I’m unsure, but I do not believe has been announced or even questioned.

So I am simply questioning, what does the number next to your account name actually mean?

Is it the number, of which you created your account? Joined the game? I am curious to see, what people guess and what the developers actually state the answer to be.

It doesn’t mean anything. It is randomly created when you select your display name. The only real purpose it has is if someone picks the same display name as your it indicates they are not the same player.

They are random as Trogdor said. But don’t remove the post. Others may have wondered about it too.

Account names are not unique in this MMO, player character names are however.

Its a random number generated that is determined by the email you use to register the account. When I was registering the same account name with different emails, they all had a different numbers. It wasn’t like 4509 then 4510. Would be 4726 for example.

The main point of it is to differentiate who is who. You might know a Michael.9999 (very generic) but then you meet a Michael.9998 and most likely it is not the same person (unless they have multiple accounts with the same name). Basically, just to differentiate between people with the same account names.

Yes ^. I have seen a few people that share the same account name but the digits next to their name are what make the accounts “unique”.
