Display character name
Why do you need to see it, dont you know what you named your toons?
Where exactly do you want to see it? Above your head when you run around?
I honestly wouldn’t mind it somewhere on the UI. Unless you are doing the story, you can go a LONG time without seeing your name. Even more if you aren’t in a guild and don’t chat in map often. I’ve honestly played a few of my characters and forgotten their names.
Yes, above my head as seen in all the mmos
Yes, above my head as seen in all the mmos
And in all those mmos there is an option to turn them off, which a great many people seem to do when it comes up in conversation. I’d imagine this is why its just not a thing here.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?

Hit “H” and it’s up in the top right corner, along with your level and profession.
So long Treeface.
“…Kormir? I know not of whom you speak.”
I imagine this is for screen shots. Back in CoH I believe the settings for players were none, everyone but ourselves and everyone.
RIP City of Heroes
It was an option that was available in Guild Wars 1. Now you can’t see your name, title or the star if you’ve earned it. Considering the amount of trouble you go to to get 100% world completion, what do you get? A title. Which you can’t see unless it’s for a short time if you’re targeted. A star. Which you never can see (you can’t see it if you’re targeted so that’s not a way to tell). And 2 items to use towards a legendary, which you might not use. They could at least make the title and star visible to those that earned it.
Oh, by the way. Those that have a star. Did you know there was a bug at one time that caused people to lose the star? Did you lose yours? If you ever lose the star, you’ll never know. It’s not like someone will ever come up to you and tell you that your char doesn’t have a star.
Not being able to see your own title and star that you’ve earned is one of the reasons that Guild Wars 2 titles are not as valued. You go to the trouble of getting them, and then you never see them. I self targeted in Guild Wars 1 occasionally to see my title.
ANet may give it to you.

@Flesh wound I agree we should be able to see the titles and definitely the star if we so choose. I can’t say whether I would/n’t use it because it’d depend on how it was implemented (where, how big the text/star is, transparency, etc), but I think it should be an option.
So long Treeface.

Agalloch: I am trying to understand why you would need to see your character name.
Is there some reason why this feature would be needed? Outside of Deleting a character(ANet spells out your name for you there) there is no time that I can recall when the game requires you to enter your name. On the off chance that for some reason you would need to see your name just hit (H) and click on Story Journal to see your own name.
IMO, two mouse clicks to see your name, as opposed to it continuously adding to the screen clutter all the time, is a much better solution.
ANet has proven time and time again that they do not want to be like all other MMO.
Except you could see your name in Guild Wars. It would not be so bad to be like that other MMO/CO.
I do miss being able to see my titles (and the star). =(
I wanna see it emblazoned on the back of my cape…
The reason I want to have this too is to remind me of my own ego.
Yes, I am serious. I love seeing the things I have accomplished, and the name I managed to squeeze out through a lot of thinking.

I’ll go out on a limb and say it is mostly to see the 100% completion star. I know when I first got 100% completion I wanted to see my own star, just to see how it would look to other people.
Ended up partying with someone and having them target me so I could see it.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

Yep me too.

Absolutely.
In Guild Wars 1 I would sometimes self target to see my title. I worked my way from “Not too smelly” all the way up to “God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals”. I was proud of each and every one of those titles and the work they represented and I wanted to see them also.
ANet may give it to you.
