Dive Master Frustration!
So even if you manage to get past that, you are faced with all kinds of pipes and pillars that you cannot avoid unless you know exactly where to jump. It is impossible to move your character around these obstacles because once you jump, you are committed to the downward path.
While it is true that you’re committed to a steep downwards trajectory once you leave the platform with the goggles, you can steer in mid-air, so minor corrections are possible.
The trick to making this dive is in the initial jump. You need to either walk – not jump, and possibly not even run – off the right spot; or if you do jump, do not jump from right off the edge but from further back. This is somewhat hard to see in the video due to the visual noise from the Mesmer Portal, but notice how the naked dude to the top left is jumping off the edge and dying soon after, while Dulfy is jumping from further back on the platform.
Like Gudy said, you have to steer as you jump. It also helps if you are in a team. Put the team member in the water so you have a dot on your screen to aim for. I didn’t jump. Just walked off. I aimed for the dot and steered around the poles. Took me several tries, but I finally got it.
Also super helpful if you bring a Mesmer friend along. If (when…) you die, they can drop a portal from the diving spot and meet you by jumping on top of the floating ship, then down to where you first start encountering mobs once you’ve run back.
And I agree with what was stated previously: walk, not jump, off the platform and steer as best you can.
Don’t give up, it’s not impossible.
I saved this one for last to get my mastery point. It took me two jump attempts, and many, many tries to even get up to the dive point, but I did it…with a necromancer. No help at all from mesmer portals (Spectral Walk helped a bit though).
If my fumbling, not so agile anymore, 47 year old fingers can do it, you can do it too.
Don’t give up.

I’m also stuck on that last one. You’ve done better than I have. I’ve made it to the top of the jumping puzzle with a bit of “cheating” from a mesmer but I’ve never reached the goggles. I had a few goes then shelved it and went in search of easier mastery points. Jumping puzzles and me are not very compatible, and that one is a crazy-difficult one.
I have 37 out of the 38 Diving locations completed. The one I am totally unable to obtain is the Kryta Diving Point #8. This one is at the end of a spectacularly difficult jumping puzzle.
I managed to find this information on Dulfy’s guide but even though I managed to get to where the goggles were located twice, each time I jumped, I failed the dive. You cannot see anything below you because of the fact that there appears to be a solid rock face between you and the area you need to traverse.
So even if you manage to get past that, you are faced with all kinds of pipes and pillars that you cannot avoid unless you know exactly where to jump. It is impossible to move your character around these obstacles because once you jump, you are committed to the downward path.
Dulfy’s video shows the location but unless you are extremely lucky, you will most likely hit something on the way down, killing your toon in the process and failing the dive.
“Gendarran Fields #3
This diving goggle was newly added on July 1, 2013 as part of the Not So Secret Jumping Puzzle. Players will need to get to the very top of the jumping puzzle and jump down to the water below.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNO5Ekd94fUThe sad part of all this is the fact that I need the mastery point that I can obtain with this achievement. According to the wiki you only get one (1) point for all your troubles. It would have been nice if Anet had parceled all this up into chunks providing more options instead of this pitiful …single point for all of them.
I know exactly how u feel. It is actually rather horrible if u have a high ping like me. I simply cannot make that dive. it took me hours to get up there to begin with and when i finally did i had to jump blindly into abyss. Half way down, suddenly a pipe appeared in front of me and splat, dead. All that effort, hours and hours of it and countless deaths, for nothing.
That was over a year ago and just to torment me, when they changed the achievement to show 3 closest to being finished, that 37/38 dive master sits on top every time i open that panel. I’ve come to hate that panel. I think it’s rather cruel to force ppl do that horrible goggle dive to complete such a multiple jump achievement.
They need to add more options, or simply allow (me) to remove it from nearly completed achievement, b/c i’m never, ever going up there again, even though i need that mastery point badly. No human being should be put through such a horrible frustrations in a game supposedly built for fun. For me, there’s is 0 fun in that dive and as far as i’m concerned, unless they add more doable jumps, that 37/38 dive master can sit there till gw2 shuts down. I will….almost have….learned to ignore its existence.
I died several times on the day down. I think the jump itself took me 3 or 4 trys to get. Come back to it later if you’re getting frustrated. Sometimes just letting something sit for a day or 2 will help.
oooooo this one….
yeah, I sought mesmer assistance to get to the top of the puzzle (there’s a thread under players helping players for this). It still took me like a dozen jump attempts to get it right though. suuuuuper frustrating. my biggest issue wasn’t getting my alignment right, but rather “over hopping” the initial jump. u need just a tiny hop of the ledge and just a nudge of forward momentum to get past the pipe. then u need to just fall like a rock….
Keep in mind that Dulfy’s guide may not match up with the achievement panel checklist. It did not for the DT and SW badge/coin collections. I haven’t really checked the one for the diving master as I got burnt out doing the conversion tables for the others.
If the achievement panel checklist actually has useful descriptions then I wouldn’t worry about it. If it’s just numbers then I’d be aware that the JP you have been attempting may not the one that you need.

I believe they do. But it’s all on the wiki as well, which one is which and quickest route to it.
Yep, sadly the guide is correct, although it should maybe start with a health warning about this particular dive hehe. I wonder how many other “37-ers” there are in the game
Besides the tips listed, also see if you can find someone who can do the dive to go with you. Give them a tiny head start & do what they do — some people find it easier to follow-the-leader.
Good luck.
PS it’s really frustrating to miss, however it’s super satisfying once you manage to get it.
Ok, so walk, not run, leap from farther back not on edge. Nice…wish I had figured that out before I got so irritated with it.
But Dulfy does have two different videos…one to get to the top of the jp for that achieve and the chest and another one (which I posted) for just the goggles and dive.
It took me forever getting up to where the goggles are. I stopped to take a look at her video after each portion I did just to make sure I took the right path.
But I do have one tip. I discovered (but maybe you know this already) that getting up to the first set of pipes along the wall, if I started farther back on the out jutting rock, faced a bit towards the wall and aimed for the junction of the pip at the wall, I was able to get to each pipe more easily than just trying to leap from one to the next.
I stopped at each pipe I got on and sorta moved a bit outward and turned toward the junction of the wall and next pipe. Since there were only a few and not an entire area loaded with these things, it can be much easier as long as you don’t get interrupted along the way.
The shoddy design of Not So Secret notwithstanding, the treatment of diving paths since Living Story has been another demerit on the design team.
“Blind” jumps? Between Not So Secret and the Dry Top hay bale, there’s a raw temptation to shove a dev off a cliff (nicely, with a bungee cord attached!).

Thank you so much for such a good laugh.
The image your comment conjured up was exceptionally apt considering the many “development” issues attached to achievements. I am specifically referring to the most recent for the Lens to capture light problem. The one where you need to have your inventory open, click on lens, and cursor hovering over the word “use” in order to obtain said light.
The dev that created that mess really needs to go back to programming school to learn how to create something that works without such a convoluted mechanism when others in the game seem to work just fine, as long as you have the necessary items in your inventory to begin with.
The tip that was given to me – use 1st person view, it makes steering on the way down a bit easier.
must have tried it 100-200 times by now and I burn ed the better part of a stack of revive orbs….
Still no luck…
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

Awesome suggestion. I would never thought of trying that. (Not, however, for those who get vertigo in virtual environments.)
That JP was really bad implemented, I needed a lot of tries to get it, but the worst part is to climb it again, if if fall during the climb or worst, die from the top wherethat stupid false wall is, a real pain.
They should remove that wall from the top at least.
To anyone here in need that are also on NA servers:
Ever since I got a 2nd mesmer up to the goggles to help out Lanfear (hiya!), I have been porting players (single and groups) to the chest and then from the chest to the goggles (and both legendary collection points) with dual mesmers almost every day.
I also give succinct pointers for getting the dive now, which usually results in a successful first try. If you are interested in some mesmer assistance to get the dive/legendary collection spots, and are also on NA servers, feel free to message me in-game.

you would know if you had completed that jumping puzzle!
i’m also a member of the 37/38 club :-)

^ Wonderful person (hiya to you too Stin!). Very patient. Highly recommended!
What I do with these kinds of dives where it’s tricky hitting the water and nothing else on the way down, of which there are several now, is to go find the landing spot first, place myself at the center of it, and then place my personal waypoint there. It at least gives you something concrete to aim for.

Thankfully, I had a guildie who loves jumping puzzles (and hates Not So Secret) mesmer me over, but seeing this offer warms my heart.

Actually, the jumping puzzle itself is not that bad, once you do it a few times and learn what to do (doing it on a mesmer helps immensely as well). The dive jump however is really badly designed, and while jp can be done without that much problem, it still requires a lot of time to redo when (when, not if) you fail that jump.

That offer is almost worth moving continents for.

The dives are tricky precisely because there are things on the way down.
They’re also tricky because you often can’t tell where you’re supposed to land. Take one complication away and the whole thing becomes a bit easier.

Also good advice; this was how I got the silverwastes dive from the end of the JP.

LOL, I’m a 37-er as well and it sucks! I want that achievement so badly but this is really tough. I’m a mesmer and so is my hubs so we help each other with portals but we just can’t get it yet. Definitely so frustrating! But we’ll keep trying. Grrrrrr.
