Is its just me, or does it seem silly that energy style rifles (super hyperbeam… etc) have the standard black powder animation? I was doing a heart in Lornars Pass, where the SHBA was shooting lightening with shock death animations. Why can’t this be the default? Why is it that only legionaries get special animations?

It seems silly but it’s probably because it would take too much work/time to add. There are plenty of other weapons, not just rifles, that should use a different animation. I don’t mind if they stay that way, it makes legendary weapons even more cool.
Also, the plural for legendary is legendaries, what you used there is the English possessive.

would you believe that “legendaries” is also flagged as misspelled?

(pedantic mode on) Well, technically, legendaries doesn’t exist in the english language either, as the word “legendary” is an adjective and can’t be pluralized (which is why it’s flagged as misspelled), the correct plural form would be “Legendary Weapons”… but of course since this is the internet we tend to sustantivize everything.. (pedantic mode off)

Back on topic, it would be interesting (and probably not as time consuming) just to recolor the blast and maybe give it a little glow for some rifles. For example, when using the asura T3 cultural rifle (energy weapon with purple glows), when the same spark-smoke model would be used when shooting, but recolored purple with a slight glow applied to it. Of course, we don’t really have any idea how easy or hard would it be, for all we know the firing animation is tied to the characters and not the weapon, but the fact that it does change for legendary weapons ( ) makes me think there’s already a system for it.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

Well the fact that my thief used a rifle with a special animation for a heart quest suggests that the animations are not tied to the char per se… I think it’s just a matter of the dev’s keeping things simple. For gun nuts like me, its a little disappointing.

An another note – it would be cool if we could select rifle (or any other weapons) skills from a pool for our char, rather than being bogged down with what the dev’s think works best. I’ve found that based on play styles certain skills get ignored. Giving us a choice would bring a new level to the game, especially in pvp.

I personally like the animations. I’m just waiting for my Plated Sniper Rifle skin to transfer over to PvE so I can actually use it somewhere (rifle in PvP.. Hah!).

I’m more upset that my Engi, (you know the firearms/explosives specialists) can’t fire a sodding rifle properly.

actually the form legendaries exists in the dictionary as the plural form for legendary. Even if your browser flags it, it doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

There are a lot of things they could do to spruce up the non-legendary weapons.

Like the fact that any thrown weapon (Ranger mainhand axe, Engineer shield throw, ect) all use a generic basic model instead of actually throwing the specific weapon you’re wielding. My Ranger’s neat Jade axe turns into a generic hatchet model the second it leaves my hand. The bird-shaped Ebon Vanguard Shield that my Engineer uses turns into a round buckler when I throw it (much to my disappointment, because throwing an eagle would be awesome).

Except legendaries, which get their models changed appropriately when thrown.

I guess maybe its “too much work” to change all the weapons, but I would really like to see them spread the love around to more than just legends on some of the stuff. Legendaries can keep their fancy auras and footfalls and whatever else, but basic things like a matching thrown weapon model and, as you suggest TC, different firing animations for certain weapons, shouldn’t be exclusive to legendaries.

Unfortunately, with new legendaries in the works and the constant complaints that still pop up about how X legendary isn’t fancy enough, Y legendary is so much better, Z legendary needs this laundry list of improvements to be good enough, ect, I don’t think that leaves much time to spruce up the “normal” weapons.
