Diving Master mastery point
I should clarify I am talking about the diving point in the Not So Secret jumping puzzle.
I know exactly the one you mean. I am at 97% completion for diving and that is the one I need. I failed the jumping puzzle many times then eventually cheated by getting some help from a passing mesmer. Then I found out that the diving point involves yet more jumping and also that you can’t get to it from the end of the main jumping puzzle. I may have sworn more than a little. So it remains undone for now. I can’t imagine how annoying it will be to finally get there then miss the water. Having done all of the others without cheating, it does seem that this one is a whole order of magnitude harder than the others.
And, like you, I was only doing it for that precious mastery point. I’ve got that plus two of the Triple Trouble wurm heads on my mastery points TODO list.
When doing dives, first find the landing spot, stand in it and add a marker at your location to your minimap. When jumping, aim for the marker. Optionally watch a video of the fall.
Did 34 of the 38. Tried again recently. It was very clear to me then and now, that the only way to achieve these was to use a Mesmer and to me that’s cheating. Congrats on making mastery points basically only available by someone else doing it for you.
These diving locations, have never and still don’t require, anyone but yourself to do them. Mesmers are not needed.
Thank you for your unsubstantiatable opinion. Now we have two.
I feel your pain.
When the masteries came out with the expansion, I finally decided to tackle this. I’m terrible at jumping puzzles (just ask any of my guild mates that get frustrated with me), but I managed to do it…
…with my necromancer.
It took me two jumps and a little over an hour of my time (yes, I have a full time job) and no help from mesmer portals (although Spectral Walk was used quite a bit). My first jump I hit a pole on the way down. The frustration was real, but I persisted. I was so nervous on the second jump, and ready to rage quit. Lots of encouragement in /say and /map chat.
I jumped.
Things were whizzing by at ludicrous speed, and I was starting to see plaid, but I was managing to avoid everything. I somehow hit that small puddle of water, and the achievement and mastery point bubbles popped up. I can’t begin to describe the sense of euphoria and relief that came over me. So glad I never have to do that again.
Anyhow…
TL:DR: If my 47 year old fumbling fingers can do it, so can yours.

Your skin will wrinkle and your youth will fade, but your soul is endless.
Countless tries and much older fingers say otherwise. Thanks for the encouragement but I really don’t see any point in wasting any more time over this.
If i remember correctly, do not press forward (only a little bit) at first, then correct once you see more. Be carefull of the sides of the pit you can walk on, you have to get past them to secure the fall.
My first time was a fail on this diving goggle. Glad i did it back then (before HoT).
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.

It’s actually a fact as it can, and has, been done solo.
An opinion is when you think everyone can do it, because you can.
A fact is when you and everyone else has completed it.

I never said that everyone can do it. That’s a skill level outside of the JP itself. I’m just disputing your claim that it is impossible and requires a mesmer.

I recently did a world tour of diving locations specifically for the mastery point and when I realized that this one was required my heart sank. I hate the Not-So-Secret JP with a passion, but there is no reason to do this JP with anything but your Mesmer. There is a ledge you can leap on to early on with a Mesmer Blink that bypasses the beginning 1/3 of the JP and is quite easy to do. The rest is made easier by placing strategic Port Entres, but it’s still really difficult without bringing plenty of revive orbs for when you inevitably die. I think I burned through 8-9 revive orbs that I had in my bank. All this after trying to do it on my engineer first, but I lost a couple years off of my life trying that…
You may consider it “cheating” to use a Mesmer. I don’t know why you consider it this as the Mesmer was designed as being the class best suited for these types of tasks. It’d be like opting for a thief instead of a turret engineer to defend a point because the turreteer is specifically designed to defend well. Anet made this JP frustratingly difficult, and the dive achievement is even more so. There’s no reason to put yourself through the agony of repeated failure. However, if you really want to do it to yourself, get the achievement and dive on a Mesmer and then go back on other classes and clear it. You’ll still get the points and then can also boast about your JP skills when you do eventually clear it, but you will be less frustrated because you know you can do it.
They don’t require a Mesmer.
BECAUSE THEY DONT REQUIRE DOING.
For me, and clearly others, they simply are impossible.
I’m glad you can do it. I understand the thrill of completing these.
Why make something as generic as jumping puzzles so difficult that a significant part of the player base can’t EVER do on their own? The others were enjoyable. These are frustrating.
AND THEN GATE A MASTERY POINT BEHIND IT. That’s disgusting to me.
If anything, these last four are reward in and of themselves
I’m sorry if you thought I meant by anyone, but did you read the OP’s post?
I was writing to the players like me.
I parked my Mesmer at a farm so I don’t accidently portal players away from a chest and off a cliff. If you catch my drift.
Do the gold coin achievement in Silverwastes if you thought the aetherblade JP puzzle was difficult. That one also rewards a mastery point if I remember correctly.

I tried doing this on my engineer first and then realized I would never keep my sanity without switching to my Mesmer for the three coins near the Topsy Turvy. There are too many difficult jumps deep in the mini-JPs for each coin that you sometimes can’t even survive a fall from (to then use Port Entre). Yes, it does reward a Mastery Point.

Yeah. I did it recently to create the table so people could match what they saw on the avhievement panel with what was in Dulfy’s guides. I had no issues doing any of them until I came to that set and only with a particular few. There’s still one left to do which I won’t be doing because it’s probably the worst out of all of them. It’s an alt account anyway so not like I need to complete it.

Yep, I also did that one with my necromancer. Again, I’m glad that’s over and done with.

The only JP I need is the new/old one in LA. That acheivement was complete until Anet changed it. I attempted it once, gave up after 3 hours. I’ll try again someday, when I’m feeling masochistic.
What point does it serve to have the Aetherblade diving point in with this achievement and to tack on a mastery point at that?
Do the devs realize how hard this jumping puzzle is? Not to mention that IF you get to the diving point in less than 5 days of work you THEN have to pray to whatever god you think is listening that you hit the water when you jump.
Please remove this diving point from master diver OR remove the mastery point and put it somewhere else.
You have any idea how many people play your game and cannot even do half of these jumping puzzles you guys create? We aren’t all Super Mario Bros. champions.
So you want a mastery point for… not mastering the achievement? It’s definitely one of the most difficult ones.
There are a couple of ways to make it easier to achieve:
- Get a mesmer friend (or better: two) to port you back up after each try.
- Follow someone down who knows how to navigate — that’s worked for nearly everyone I know who has tried it for this and some other difficult dives.
As of right now, there are more mastery points in Core Tyria than we need, so none of us have to get each and every point.

Unfortunately no less than 16 (sixteen!!!!) of those points are in Living Story 2, which an increasing number of players do not have. It is gem store purchasable but not cheap. Without LS2 you pretty much need every other mastery point. The saving grace is that only players who plan on crafting legendaries need to do the legendary track, and those players must be able to generate big chunks gold so can probably afford to buy LS2.
I’ve just scraped enough gold together to buy it. Obviously you can spend RL cash, which I’m sure is part of ANet’s grand plan.

All things considered, 8 of those 16 mastery points are earned by simply doing the Living World Season 2 story, which are very simple albeit time-consuming. Some of the mastery achievements are quite difficult but some are easier and it is very possible to get about 10 mastery points in a week if you put the time in for it (if you can).
If you want a decent way to get a lot of gold, collect all your crafting mats and make ascended materials every day. Those Spiritwood Planks are selling for a lot still.
