Do Legendary User Impress You?
The only thing that impresses me is that people will go to great lengths to do boring grinding to get one. I’m sure some people find it fun, but to me grinding 250 trophies of each kind is the killer. I’ve gotten the precursor, the clovers, the gifts but the trophies are just too rare IMO and I refuse to grind
I wouldn’t say I’m impressed but more confounded for the lengths that people go to in order to acquire them.

People dont like to be impressed by others.
What??? I truly appreciate it when someone impresses me and I would imagine most people do. Someone or a group of people accomplishing something impressive does not always breed envy. The world is a better place in my eyes when I see someone do something impressive or accomplish something that impresses me. I will be honest though, nothing anyone does in any video game ever will impress me. I’ve been playing video games for 30+ years so I don’t think that will ever change. To be fair though, what impresses one person doesn’t always impress someone else.

Actually, this is whats wrong with this thread. People dont like to be impressed by others. Its their game and they want to be the heroes. “Not this other guy. I should be special!”
Impressed is just wrong word to ask the question. It puts person own ego to low. So not many people would accept it.

Impress me? No.
Do they look good? Well, maybe some of them.
When I looked at the requirements for making a legendary, I said, “No, thanks.” In GW I enjoyed getting my 30-odd maxed titles. I didn’t go for GWAMM because too many of the remaining titles involved soul-sucking grind (to get virtual liquor. sweets and party items), farm the gold to be able to afford to sit akitten a mini-game ring, etc.
My first thought when I see a Legendary is, “Hmm, bought with cash or grind?” My second is, “I hope he thinks the ‘expense’ was worth it.”

No I didn’t. I said that I appreciate when people impress me. I then said that nothing anyone does in a video game will impress me. How does not being impressed by video games equal me not appreciating when someone does something I do find impressive? There is a whole world out there outside of Tyria where people do very impressive things every day and when I see them I appreciate it.

Again. Pattern. Belittle them as much as possible. It would help me boost my own ego.

The OP asked a question. I answered. I’m sorry if my choosing not to be suitably impressed by an accomplishment in a video game pushes your buttons. If anyone is ego-involved, it sounds more like you are.
P.S. kindly leave the psycho-analysis to the professionals.

But what makes you want to belittle others, while u answer this question? Why everytime, to proff, that they not special, u have to allways tell yourself, that they didnt do smth special? To rephrase your answer, it would look like that:
“When i see someone with legendary, i start telling myself, that they Or dont deserve them (paid) Or nolifers(grind)”.
In video games, people dont like to be impressed. Its their game and they want to be heroes themselves. “Not someone else! Me!”
I’m sorry but I think you are confusing people not wanting to be impressed by video games with people simply not finding accomplishments in a video game truly impressive. There could be one item unique to Tyria, one of a kind, available to only one player that takes tons of playing time or what ever to get and if I saw someone with it I would think “He must really like this game to play so much to get it. I bet he is glad he got it. Good for him.” However, I would most certainly not be impressed. Even if I had it I would not be impressed with myself. I wouldn’t call my buddies up and say, “Hey let’s go have some beers I want to celebrate and tell you all what I just did today.”
Maybe, just maybe people do not find video game accomplishments as impressive as you think they should or as impressive as you think they are. Now you are trying to dress those people up in some kind “insecurity/envy” robe because they don’t see video game accomplishments the same way you do. I hope that is the case. I hope it isn’t because you have your legendary, read this thread, saw that most people don’t care about them and now you feel let down.

So… then tell me. What would impress you? Some specific example from your life. R u not impressed by any games in general? Like u wouldn’t care, if some people win football championship? Or u wouldn’t care about man, who finally managed to buy his own house. Where is a line, where u start getting impressed?
So they should have just posted:
I don’t care
/15 char??
Nope. There just patterns, that show in some people. “I dont care about legendarys, cause they look stupid – fine.” and “I dont care, because players, who wield them have no skill”
See the difference? 1-st is personal opinion, 2-nd is just an attack on the wielder, to somehow heal harmed ego.
It’s quite clear you’re not responding to what I write, but rather to your perceived persecution at the hands of the indifferent. You seem traumatized by the fact that some people don’t care about your pixels and you feel the need to attack them for their indifference, or project a sense of envy/jealousy onto them in order to make yourself feel better. All of this being highly ironic, because you condemn people for sharing their thoughts.
Wow. Another wall of text to show how much u indifferent. Gj bro. Keep on hard work.
Most what i have to say already been said, but ill add up a little. U r envy. “pixels”. Yeh. This is one of the words of people, who gave up on shiny and now have to tell themselves everyday “Its just pixels…its fine…I dont need it.”
Guess what? U want it! And this is why u try to hide it so much. Cause its so obvious. Even for yourself.
English isn’t your first language, is it?
To answer the question posed, no player impresses me, and I don’t get impressed by video game players in general.
Actually, this is whats wrong with this thread. People dont like to be impressed by others. Its their game and they want to be the heroes. “Not this other guy. I should be special!”
Thats another reason, why u getting so much negative posts here. People do get impressed. Not all. But many. But to state it themselves? Not many people can stomp their pride so much ^^.
I do get impressed sometimes. When i do, it’s because that person showed me something that i really could respect. It’s just that legendaries are not this “something”.

Here’s some perspective. My first post in this thread:
Running a sub-4 minute mile impresses me. Bench pressing 400 lbs impresses me. Speaking 3 languages impresses me. Playing 4 instruments proficiently impresses me.
Having access to a collection of pixels in a video game does not.

Thats why I said, that impressed is just wrong word. Now tell me, what would get you impressed in guild wars 2? Specific example pls )
He does understand. He’s saying is that if people really didn’t care, they wouldn’t bother to post and they wouldn’t often qualify their ‘I don’t care’ statements by making belittling comments in the posts in which they say they don’t care.
You know this too, but you tried to divert it by calling him out on his english.

No. I can literally pay for one but choose not to since ANET should rework the “lottery” system that it has now for precursors. The current system just drives players to gold sellers for precursors as well as legendary’s themselves. ANET has said multiple times that it will not “make a gear treadmill” but isn’t that what it is now for legendary precursors? Instead of gear treadmill though it’s a chest treadmill.

No. He accuses me of qualifying my “I don’t care” (and many other players that I reference) with belittling comments. The only comment that could be perceived as belittling that I’ve made is a comment on attitude towards the people not impressed by his legendary. In every post he has written where he has quoted me, he’s either distorted or fabricated what I’ve said. I could have called him a manipulative liar, but I thought it kinder to assume that maybe he wasn’t very strong in English (which based on his writing, is certainly not an undue assumption).

Well real world accomplishments would be a very great place to start. The football player that dedicated a significant part of his life training his body and mind to become a great football player, yep. The person that worked two jobs, saved their money to buy a house while supporting their family, yes.
- The student that put themselves through college while working, yes.
- The guy next door to me that jogs every day at the same time no matter what the weather, yes.
- A person who is not overly concerned about what others think of them, yes. That’s rare these days.
- My father who retired and took a second job the next day even though he doesn’t need the money, yes.
- My mailman who is always, always friendly to me even when he is covered in snow and dirt during the holiday season, yes.
- The woodworker who spent years mastering his craft. Thank you, I love my coffee table.
- Busy people that spend a significant portion of their free time volunteering, yes.
- It is a sad state these days but even when I see a couple teenagers fishing in my lake without using cell phones and texting the whole time, yes I’m impressed.
I could go on and on if you want.
- The person that spends countless hours clicking keys in a game and gets some pixels for it, no.

Yeah, people who are caught in their own inconsistencies try to pull stuff like that, especially with ESL folks. I woudn’t worry about it, folks notice.
If you have a legendary (or anything else that is rare), some people will be resentful for whatever silly human reason humans will feel, which are a lot of reasons. There’s no real point in calling them on it because they are the type of people who want to feel poorly about others, and make nasty judgments. I know I will annoy people when I get Twilight, but that is their problem, not something that I did wrong.

I take offense to that considering my job is to work with ELL students (for which I’m certified and have achieved national recognition, fyi). If you believe so strongly that he’s in the right, find a post of mine where I belittle his owning of a legendary and not his attitude about it, as both he and you accuse me of. I’ll be waiting.

Of course but mastering chess is on a whole different level than GW2. They can’t even be compared.

Yes but chess actually takes skill, whereas the majority of getting a legendary takes luck and the ability to do a simple task for long periods of time. Running CoF p1 1,000 times and/or farming pen/shelt (or whatever today’s solo farming equivalent is… haven’t been to Orr in months) hundreds of hours doesn’t impress me.

Heh. Guess u starting to grasp where Im going.
So. Why mastering chess is on a whole different level? Im not so bad in chess myself. I would say, that pvp in video games, sometimes, is way harder, than chess.

Yeah, I guess being in the top 10% of their graduating class must suck, having only been in the United States for 3 years. Good job displaying the exact same horrific attitude that you attempted to crucify me for.
I managed the same feat in anglo class (english isn’t my first language, either), even though I had some pretty blowhard english teachers. I’ll applaud the students’ hard work rather than you trying to take credit for their efforts.

You do understand what “top 10% of their graduating class” means, right?
And I applaud their hard work as well, but discount their teachers’ efforts to this group of students and see what they have to say to you.
By the way, I’m still waiting on that quote I asked you to find. That is, if you want to try and remain on topic.

Srry guys and girls, But im talking with other person. He said, that he doesnt care about any achivements in video games. So im going at my pace, to show him the weak spot in his judgments. Just like in chess, u have to think ahead.
Am I impressed? No. I see them everywhere, so they aren’t really unique. Plus I feel a lot of the skins they come out with for these events are way better looking.

I am discounting your attempt to claim credit for their accomplishment, just like I am discounting your attempt to discredit russianbro’s argument by way of criticising his english, in an attempt to change the topic of discussion. You could have just said, ’You’re right, if I didn’t care I wouldn’t have posted, let alone qualified it,’ instead of doubling down and going on the aggressive and getting all mad about it and attacking his english.
And now you’re hiding behind your supposed english students because you got caught. I also don’t believe that you -are- a teacher, because most teachers I know who game make sure that their online behavior is above that petty kind of thing.

Chess is a game of such complexity that dwarfs PvP. To be great at chess takes much, much more than being great playing GW2. Go play 1,000 hours of chess and see where that gets you. Let me know if you win a championship. I will truly be impressed.
I really don’t like going here because I know it touches a nerve with many, but being good at video games has almost no real world value. I’ll give you problem solving, hand eye coordination, some dedication, but that is about it. Now many have strong characteristics in real life and are good at video games but being good at a video game doesn’t necessarily translate to anything in real life.
I started playing video games in the 80’s as a kid. I was really good at them and I thought it was cool to go to the arcade and get top score with my initials. Thing is though, no one cared but me. At one point I spent a lot of free time playing those games. My dad called me a “vidiot”. He was right.

Also, why would I say he’s right, when he’s not?

I also believe that you are a very angry and self-important person. Someone who actually held those honors would not be raging on a forum about how important they are. Shouldn’t you be doing something more productive with your time, like polishing your trophies, instead of belittling people for their english skills?
Still can’t find those quotes can you? Good job there.

About chess – I would have argued, but this is pointless. Truth said. In chess meta all go down to remembering all pro combinations and ability to read the patterns. When I understood this – I just given up on em. To boring

People who own legendary weapons do not impress me at all. I also crafted a Twilight and I made it solely for my own sense of achievement and not to impress other people.
Personally, I don’t care what people think about me for crafting a legendary weapon.

You accuse people of saying things they haven’t said (and you can’t even produce quotes backing up your interpretation). You think your amateurish psychoanalysis of other people is somehow fact. You simply don’t argue well or make well though out points. You haven’t pushed anyone “to the wall”. You can’t even see the wall.
Ok. Now, I think, I understand your kind. You dont like video games in general. At some point video games given you a trauma, that u now have to live with. (For a dignity reasons u can call it a lesson). But now im wondering. Why u still playing games? Especially online games.
About chess – I would have argued, but this is pointless. Truth said. In chess meta all go down to remembering all pro combinations and ability to read the patterns. When I understood this – I just given up on em. To boring
There you go projecting some false beliefs again just because many people do not find anything admirable about video game accomplishments. I do enjoy video games and I have played them off and on my whole life. No trauma, but I did look back at one point when I was spending a lot of time playing and kind of shook my head when I realized the other stuff in life I missed out on to play a video game.
I play games, off and on, and maybe 6-8 hours a week for fun. I don’t play them to impress anyone and I don’t play them to impress myself. Why? Because there is nothing impressive about it but it is a form of entertainment. I play for fun, that’s it. That is the intrinsic value of a game.
Your entire counter to everyone who has not agreed with you is some pseudo psychological assessment.
“Nothing great about doing something in a video game.”
“Yeah well you just feel threatened.”
“Nope they just don’t impress me.”
“Well you are just envious.”
“No really I don’t find anything in video games impressive.”
“Then you must be traumatized by video games.”
Go play Pve/WvW/PvP and when the book of your GW2 glory comes out I’ll be the first one to buy it. Hell, I’ll buy 10. This is getting no where.
I’m pointing out the myriad of holes in your “argument”, including strawman arguments and hypocrisy. Of course that makes you look bad. I’m sorry you’re so offended by it. You could try actually arguing the points I make instead and I won’t point those things out. How’s that?
Hah. kitten it. Again. All of you…so hilarious.
When I push you guys to the wall. U all going in the same and only pattern.
“Im so important, that somewhere in my post is a deep meaning! Go find it! I wont point it, cause im so special! But I am right cause of it!”

Hehe. Allways works. Hurt your pride and u open up a little more, so I can hurt you even more. Ok. Lets continue.
My chess analogy given me more, than enough. He even told me some of his past. Now I know more of him and can analise him better. Just like that.
Now. About our dispute. Unlike you, I take pride in my words and can back em up whenever u ask. So what u want me to quote? What of my statements i have to prove again?

I’ve asked you (and others) 3 separate times to provide a quote where I belittle someone because they own a legendary, as you claim. Why are you asking me yet again? Why not provide the quote the first time I asked? I’ve belittled your attitude, that’s true. You have a terrible attitude, but again, find me a quote where I say anything more than “people are indifferent to legendaries”. You claim I have some kind of Freudian hatred for legendary owners, due to pent-up jealousy, because I don’t bow down and kiss their feet. Surely you can find a single quote where I express anything other than indifference, if that were true.
And if you think you’ve hurt my pride…haha, wow…are you off the mark.

Man. I would call this trauma. Srsly. Its like eating cactus. U eat it and cry at the same time. U hate the time wasted on game, but u still wasting it. This looks like addiction. U hate it, but u can’t live without it.

But there never was question “do you play to impress?”. No. There was question. “Are u impressed?” There is a whole world of difference. 5 people could play the game without any though of impressing someone. But when my friend do smth i think is very hard – I do get impressed. Wow. “You good bro.” Thats normal to get impressed. It doesnt matter. Football, chess or videogame. If he does smth hard – it does impress me.

U wrong here. Im not throwing my words like that. My statements is a result of analysis of your posts. Not some assumptions.

Yeah, I was actually just going to ask where he got his internet forum psychology degree from.
