If they didn’t, why would they release a completely new mode (and map) for one and a completely new map (including new systems) for the other?

As to why they focus less on that: Because the majority of the playerbase are PvE:ers and it is PvE that generates the most amount of money.
It really is as simple as that.

Oh well maybe they should fix PvP problems first, you know, the ones that are driving players out of PvP like AFKers and also maybe do something about the players exploiting hacking in WvW.

2 whole new maps is quite a bit more than nothing at all. If they didn’t care they would give us nothing at all. Thus one could come to the conclusion that they do care, seeing as they are giving us stuff.

It is also worth pointing out that we know that WvW maps takes quite some time to make. EotM took over a year. They would not spend that time on a new map if they didn’t care about the game mode.

And yes, the game is divided into 3 parts, but not all 3 parts have as much people playing them. Should they really spend as much time and resources on a part that 10% plays as they do on something that 75% plays? (Numbers are made up).

Considering that they also do balance changes constantly because of PVP and it screws over PVE builds, sometimes? Oh man i wish they had separate skills for the two game modes.

They do care about PVP and WVW, well, more PVP than WVW, WVW is like the forgotten step child! PVP is the oldest child, so it gets less attention and PVE is the youngest child so it gets the most!

I can’t wait to hear OP’s great idea on how to deal with someone that decided to leave a match or had to leave the PC, thus seeming afk.

There are several discussions busy atm on what Anet can do to stop 4v5, for example if a player just leaves an ranked and unranked match then they should get penalized, like the dishonor stystem but something that actually exists, if they just leave by clicking the leave button then they should not be alowed to join a new one for an hour or more, if they just had to suddenly leave their pc and “thus seem afk” then they will be kicked out by the system but, only problem is what to do with people who intentionally just sit on the map and shout random comments at their team, only salution may be to kick them out if the whole team reports the person then penilized him like unable to play for 24 hours or they can implement an system similar to the AFK one but this would just check that if the person is not bunkering a point , have not attacked someone and have not moved a certain distance they should be warned and 10 seconds later kicked and then penilized.

Nothing is out of their hands, they are the molders of their own world thus they can change anything if they would like to do so, even maybe making it impossible for people to hack the system. Like if the program’s code has been changed in anyway then the game wont launch.

It really is as simple as that.

The new PvP gamemode is totally catering to PvE players.

“majority of players plays PvE” – you know why’s that? Because they spend their resources on PvE. The last content for PvP was added more than a year ago (Courtyard) and it’s unranked only. Before that, Skyhammer – 2013.

You do not water a flower for a long period of time and then justify not giving it water ever again because it’s not doing well? Maybe you should have cared about it in he first place.

I know why’s that. Players play to be successful. Everyone can be successful in PvE and to a lesser degree in WvW.
That can’t be said of PvP. It’s intentionally designed for nearly all players to be losers.

PvP will expand when you get that fixed (if you really want to fix it) (if there is a way to fix it).

Well… I only play practice, as I’m not really good at PvP nor do I intend to become serious about it, but I’ll make a few suggestions and you can tell me if they’d work or not.

First, if someone stays in the base for too long, replace them with an NPC and kill any credit/gains they get for the match. Or give the other players on that team a buff/bonus for playing with the absent player on their team.

Second idea would be to have the base eject them if they stay there for more than … say, 30 seconds? And on the third time in a match, it again negates any gains they got for the match.

This still doesn’t keep anyone from just running around and being useless, but I really don’t know how to have the game tell the difference between someone doing that, and someone just having a bad match.

You’ll probably take this as irrelevant and snide, but wouldn’t good PvP players ignore the number of players on the opposition and play to the best of their ability? Technically, if you have 4 above average/great PvP players vs 5 average/good PvP players wouldn’t the 4 win a majority of the matches? Isn’t winning what’s most important, not how many you’re fighting against?

Before you even ask, I don’t PvP at all anymore, but I must have during the first few months otherwise I wouldn’t have some PvP numbers on my account, but my questions still stand and are completely valid.

PvP is about Player versus player not PvE so content is irrelevant. The entire plot/story for GW2 is PvE so that’s where all the changes/updates are required the most. The mists is just a branch off from it. WvW is getting new map with HoT because it’s expected of an expansion. Its competitive play with a few PvE installations to give it more variety of play. If there wasn’t anything added to WvW it wouldn’t be worthy of being called an “expansion” but a paid DLC. Borderlands have been updated before plus EotM added. So what would be the point of supplying content to it?

a·chieve·ment – a thing done successfully, typically by effort, courage, or skill
re·ward – a thing given in recognition of one’s service, effort, or achievement
en·ti·tle·ment – the belief one is inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment

WvW is this game’s huge hit and has been copied in other MMOs. Obviously, they must put new maps to keep the game mode fresh, but I don’t think they need to overhaul the whole thing.

In the meanwhile this game has been very heavily criticized shortly after launch for having almost no serious content for PvE-centric players. It makes sense to me that Arenanet would focus more on PvE to make GW2 worthwhile for PvE players. I’m not convinced that their attempt at making that PvE experience in the open world instead of raids will work out well, but at least they’re trying something.

Completely baited ‘request’ for Dev response is baited!! :/

Plz, plz, plz, don’t try to make the four Devs that ever actually respond to us feel more uncomfortable responding to PvP/WvW issues. ESPECIALLY when we’re closing in on the most drastic changes/additions in the games history.

A LOT of us a wanting civilized discussion/feedback about proposed ideas vs our concerns/wishes!

As for your “short straw/I already know” comment, we’ve barely seen a fraction (~30ish%; not even finalized) of what they have in store for the future of GW2. Your pedantic, pontificating presumptions do absolutely no good concerning GW2’s future. The fact that, in in the last 4-5 streams, they’ve said " these are our ideas, BUT numbers (and even functions/implementations) are still subject to change (for overall balance’s sake).

If you’re so ignorant to think that the Devs don’t take PvP/WvW into account, when making decisions, then just uninstall. In GW1, about 30% of the game’s total amount of skills were either prohibited or dialed down in PvP areas. In GW2, they wanted to ‘streamline’ the entire build system, yet, have still split several skills and balanced MANY others purely based on their performance in PvP.

With the condensation of stats to gear, the condensation/empowering of existing trait lines, the addition of some VERY powerful new mechanics (especially in PvP), the addition of a new weapon to existing professions, the addition of a new traitline/set of skills, AND the addition of an entirely new profession is A BIG DEAL in this game right now (at HoT launch really).

If you’re a silly that thinks PvP/WvW is gonna be ‘stagnant with no hope vs PvE’ then there’s not any existing English words to explain how wrong ( and ignorant!!!) that yhois thread is.

I suppose a thank you is in place because you took the time to answer me, buut I think a dishonor system is inefficient. From your suggestions it won’t stop people from leaving you in the cold for 4v5 in a way that … DCs happen, people leave the PC etcetera etcetera.

And the people who usually “afk” because they don’t like the team (they don’t really afk, they are just kittens) well they’ll usually be aware of the systems in place and go around them. I mean .. would you rather have a headless chicken running around the map or an AFK guy. To me there is no difference. They are equally useless.

All these draconian laws would alienate real players, just like game DRMs alienate real gamers. Check out that Witcher 3 … it has no DRM yet its turning huge profit atm. For the first time since forever I went and bought physical copy (compared to digital one) because of the awesome package and “thank you” letter. It’s just basic psychology. Too many rules takes the fun out of things.

IMO, ANet should just straight-up copy systems from other PvP-centric systems (LoL, Dota 2, HoN, Hearthstone). Implement tiers/leagues. Make going into sPvP easier (should be possible with 0 PvE experience). Obviously, the higher the tier, the lesser the chance you would get a bad matchup. Natural selection at its finest.

And these are just the new ones.

You know, some things are out of ANet’s hands.

But that’s none of my business.

Nothing is out of their hands, they are the molders of their own world thus they can change anything if they would like to do so, even maybe making it impossible for people to hack the system. Like if the program’s code has been changed in anyway then the game wont launch.

On topic, you maybe forgot the 3 huge sPvP revamps the game has had? Also Guild Wars as a franchise has always been PvE-centric with huge lore. PvP in this game, as in every other MMO is just to keep community entertained while they produce more content. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Yeah ofc they should focus more on PvE 3/7 (PvP 2/7 and WvW 2/7) but Id expect from them to atleast fix one of the game modes that they intend to advertise with refering to tournaments. Now ofc the AFKers wont effect the tournaments directly, but will indirectly by giving the community and the world a negative opinion on PvP thus making PvP less popular and then they can have less people attending the tournaments which would mean less advertisement for gw2/Anet/NCSoft.

Also I never had a bubble for you to pop.

I may have missunderstod the whole point here but… To me the point was that it isn’t as simple as you think it is.

You may have millions of links from posts with awesome ideas how to fix stuff but in reality somewhere at Anets office there are programmers, designers, gametesters, Artists of all sorts that are working on just this issue. But it isn’t just about to take the best idea and put it in the game, it is about to test it and see if it will work as intended or if there is workaraounds and what can be done to stop these workarounds and in the end when that idea doesn’t work they may have to test another idea and work on that. Everytime they try something new it is alot of work behind it and it takes time and it costs money and just now they are also making an Expansion becouse the playerbase asked for it so I bet alot of money, time and workers are working on this stuff instead becouse they earn more money on a new expansion than on fixing a problem with leavers that will always happen no matter what you do.

Oh please … stop talking about money cost. They don’t hire freelancers. They have a workforce that is getting payed regardless of what they are doing. It’s called salaries. Stop involving economics in everything for kittens sake. Some creeps derailed my Dx12 thread with talks of economical gains while it doesn’t really cost them more or less to do some kittenty update.

And the most important factor … the happier the userbase, the more filled ANet’s pockets are.

Can any Anet employee that goes through the forums answer me this?

Is PvP and WvW getting the short straw compared to PvE?
(I already know he answer, just want to hear what excuse you guys can come up with)

Hey! At least they got a chance to draw a straw. Dungeons were not even invited to the party.
