Do dailys achieve their goal?
I feel that one thing you’ve missed is from the WvW/PvP side (as you’ve admitted you don’t play those game modes). For people that only really play one (or both) of those modes they are now getting rewarded for actually playing their preferred game mode without going out of their way.
I know in the past you could cover off a lot of the dailies in those game modes (condition remover/applier for example), but surely this way it is easier for them to get rewarded for playing things they enjoy. Also if I recall correctly that is one thing those two sections of players have been calling for, for a while (although possibly not in this format, but at least it’s a step in the right direction).
As another point people like myself managed to let their inner Skritt go wild at the thought of just getting reward chests for doing things I’d be doing anyway. in fact my guild mates have started nicknaming me Mr. Skritt…

The daily achievement loot actually isn’t too bad, which can be a motivation for some to do them as well. Me, I just like ticking (and looting!) boxes from time to time.
1) The dailys encourage participation across the entire world.
2) They reward players for loyalty and frequent play.
3) To keep the game world active and vibrant.
4) As a delivery agent for Laurels and AP.
5) To bring players together at large scale events.
6) To encourage players to enter game modes that they normally do not.
1) The game forces participation, not encourages. If I like to play Warrior or Ranger in PvP why should I be playing Guardian or Necro (like today’s daily?)
2) The little chests kinda blind some people making them believe it’s a better system, I find those chests pityful and absolutely junk.
3) Again, keeping the game world active shouldn’t be enforced.
4) AP’s are slightly better now I kinda agree, but Laurels is a total disaster. I am much more comfortable with 1 Laurel per day than a whole bunch after a month.
Before the update there was a reason me for me to login and do the daily, and that was the laurel, I enjoyed working for it. Now I just have to login and log off, they’ve actually driven me further away from the game and even worse I have to wait a month. That’s a step backwards.
5) Players are already together at large scale events, the megaserver answered that and there’s a reason why tequatl is so easy now. 3-Headed Wurm is the second one. There aren’t any other so called large events that can’t already be completed by a handful of people.
6) They’re more like forcing than encouraging, Why should I do things that I don’t like? I personally hate Silverwastes and have no interest in the new armor skins, et., So why is ANet trying to force me into playing in an area I don’t have fun in?
In answer to the “Do daily achieve their goal?”, I say no, or at best – partially. They got the 10 AP part right but the rest is a total disaster.

I almost exclusively play sPvP (occasionally WvW and Dungeons) and I like this change. Before the change I didn’t really get anything useful from the daily system (karma and laurels, woo). Now I receive something I cans actually use, it’s not super amazing but at least it’s something. I think this change was better for sPvP and WvW players than PvE.

Are you speaking about the change in the way AP’s are awarded, and the new reward chests added to dailies, or about changes to the dailies themselves? Because those are a separate matter.

That’s just from my personal experience with my friends yesterday.
1) Yes it did. I did PvP, we tried different profession and it was awesome and funny at some time, we did a silverwaste run and after we when do a fractal 20 where one of my friend afk at the beginning so we 4 man it. kitten didn’t remember that it was so easy at level 20 lol. I had a good time all over Tyria last night. Loved the reward. Reward Track Xp in PvP, 1000 of karma in PvE, and WxP in WvW. I wanted to do them all lol. Of course I won’t be that exicted in a couple of weeks, but I’m pretty sure that I’ll always complete the spvp dailies.
2) Yes it does. Is it a good way? Not sure.
3) Don’t think it help or hurt that aspect. Daily are just a small portion of the game, actual content keep the game active and vibrant. Daily don’t do much about that and will never be able to do so.
4) Well it give you Laurel and AP, so I would say yes.
5) Not really. Like point 3, its the content that do that, not really the daily.
6) Yes and no. The reward is all about the game mode you are doing. Someone that never did fractal don’t care about the pristine, someone that never did spvp don’t care about reward track, etc. It could help push ppl on new type of content for them, but my guess is that daily won’t be the main reason they try that new content.
