GW2 Mac beta client uses cider as far as I can remember

The Mac Beta client was first released on September 18, 2012.

According to an official press release,5 ArenaNet worked with “TransGaming, whose Cider technology allows us to mirror the game experience as closely as possible between the PC and Mac.” In other words, the game was developed for Windows and ported to Mac, allowing the game to be updated on both platform simultaneously.
However, Mac users should expect decreased performance due to the porting process.

gw2 uses cider which is an fork of wine.

So, it is emulating direct x like wine on linux. The main reason why for the terrible performance

I think performance will not be comparable, since cider is a fork of wine before they change their license to LGPL. Transgaming is not a wine contributor for the most part. I thinking Transgaming has a much kittenter version of wine at the moment.

CodeWeavers are the main developer of wine at the moment.
