As I understand it, the speed we move in combat was the intended speed for the entire game, but beta testers said it was too slow, so we got out of combat speed.

I can’t source that though.

Instead of thinking of it as us slowing down when we enter combat, think of it as speeding up when we’re out of combat.

It doesn’t make sense for monsters to have that, because they don’t care if they get to a dynamic event before it ends, or if it takes them five minutes to walk across the map. Out of combat speed is useful for players, but pointless for monsters.

I’ve always hated the slow down. It’s the one breath of fresh air I always experience when I play a different MMO that doesn’t have it.

As far as I can tell – yes. Most of the time, though, they’re already that slow. Or slower.

Even on a normal-speed (No swiftness/25% movespeed) character, I’ve never been able to not outrun a monster.

Run speed is WAY slow in this game. Was one of the first things I noticed when I started playing. Then in-combat state makes you even slower. It’s really dumb and the game would be better if we could just move quicker. Always feels like my characters are stuck in mud.

Only reason I like my Herald so much is the constant run speed. I played one in the beta weekend and told my friend I felt like I was driving a racecar the Herald was so quick compared to other classes.

Move speed out of combat is faster than in BDO, at least, especially since it’s easy to have swiftness up 100% of the time. Haven’t played any other MMOs besides that one recently to compare.

Monsters don’t have speed reduction in combat. Most of them also don’t have access to speed increases either.

From a realism standpoint I’m pretty sure someone wishing to make a timely tactical withdrawal from a fight (aka “RUN AWAY!”) would be sprinting full on to break contact then would slow to a more sustainable speed once clear.

But for game purposes I’d much rather have faster map running instead. If you think it is too slow, switch to walking for a while then switch back…
