Playing since beta not 1 pre drop, personally I think the whole legend system is terrible so I gave up making one about a year into the game. Would have bought some pre’s had I known their price would quadruple times a thousand.

Particle effect slider would be ‘too confusing’

Firstly about pre crafting with MF, I find it strange that people say; “oh I stop throwing money into MF, I threw in 300gold and still nothing”. This while pre cursors are 1k gold+ (as long as you are below the buy price its fine for me)

Made now 7 legendaries,

  • I bought the 1st one (chaos gun)
  • for the 2nd one I collected exotics which i got from throwing rares into the MF, first try with exotic and there it was, “Zap” for bolt
  • 3rd one was the legendary spear and pre was only 40g so i bought it
  • 4th pre was for the predator, 300g bought from a guildy
  • i sold the predator and bought a pre for the harpoon gun for 5th legendary.
  • With other money i had from predator, i threw in 300g random exotics and got zap again,
  • then for my 6th legend, the dagger, i threw in like 1200g into MF before i got the Spark
7th, i had bought from TP, pre for bifrost (1225g)

(all buy the bifrost from TP, because mine is still in the selling list, 4099g98s99c can someone buy it? )

Got all weapons for thief legendary now except for bow, but no I won’t make it! Looking For new legendaries!

Legendaries never had real prestige… its all about repeating the same a thousand times or selling gems… both options says nothing about how good or bad you are.

Honestly, I never did anything like farming to buy The Legend (for about 980 Gold) and crafting Bifrost. It just happened a few months ago, that I had enough money and enough material accumulated in my account bank.

Of course, I saved required materials for a long time instead of selling or using them (T6 stuff and unidentified dyes), and I did run a lot of dungeons and fractals and megaboss-events, but I never “farmed” them. I just did them when I felt like it. I would have run them even if there were no legendary weapons. It was all guild activity.

One thing that added to that was surely that I also took part in the trading post game at one time, but only for a short time to explore the possibilities of the trading post. It made me aware of how to buy and sell my regular stuff to get the most and pay the least from everything I sell or buy.

But all things put together, I would not say I farmed or traded. It just happened. After 2 years.

2 years of repeating the same thing its farming… not stressing for it doesn’t mean its not farming. It’s not like you have 2 years of diverse adventures…. I’m sure you did your share of CoF, AC, World Bosses, etc repeatedly. It’s not a bad thing though, its the very nature of MMOs.

What it is bad on other hand, its that you didn’t do anything special at all (not talking about you specifically, I don’t know you :P I’m generalizing)… just the regular usual stuff and whats wrong about it, is that that is the best way for a Legendary weapon… do the average a million times.

I was looking earlier this week and only a few precursors were over 1k gold. Most are around 500-800g from what I saw with a few as low as 100g.

So depending on which one you’re going for 300g could be quite a big loss.

So how do you distinguish between farming and playing? Is it only not farming the first time you do it? What if it’s been a month, or 6 months, since you last did it?

I also said I didn’t farm to buy my precursor and what I meant was I didn’t do anything I wouldn’t have done anyway, even if I wasn’t saving up for it.

I did do some world bosses, but only if I happened to be on the map when they started. I opened quite a few locked chests in Drytop (that was quite profitable when the map first came out) but only to use up the lockpicks I got from doing the story and some achievements. I did dungeons occasionally when my guild was doing them but not often….

The main thing I did was stop buying other stuff. Before I decided I wanted a precursor and didn’t want to wait for a drop or take my chances with the forge most of my gold went on buying minis and I was also working on the Triforge Amulet and ascended Spinal Blades. I put them all on hold so I was only buying things I really needed (pretty much nothing since I got gear with karma/badges/from drops) and simply waited for the gold to build up.

I did also sell a lot of stuff I didn’t need. For example I finished levelling jeweler and then sold all the gems I didn’t need any more (most of them) and a lot of excess cooking ingredients.

135K WvW kills:
0 Precursors

Open World PvE:
0 Precursors

Dungeon Paths(Hobby Dungeon Explorer repeated 410 times, but already did decent amount of dungeons before I got Dungeon Master):
1 Precursor(Zap)

Forged in MF(only did 3 Exotic Foci+Forge Stone, around 30K Dungeon Tokens):
4 Precursors(Collosus, Zap, Howl, Flame of Rodgort)

Bought on TP:
Dusk(650g)
Dawn(1100g)
Tooth of Frostfang(450g)
Spark(1300g)

A third Zap would be nice, as I got 1K g ready atm for bolt.
7,3K Hours, All 5 Precursors dropped in the last 1K I think.

This is a very good question… and for me it depends on why and how you do thing. Is it still fresh to you? Do you have a goal or are you just “on an adventure”? It’s the carrot on the stick that changes all. If you are doing it for the marks, gold, etc.. skipping everything, running like crazy, repeating the same strat you used yesterday… then you are farming it, are you not? It is a tricky question…

I have had the legend, zap, and a few other precursors in my hands.

I have looted them from jumping puzzle chests after I have spent an hour or two griefing others players trying to complete it or from looting dead lowbie characters after I have toyed with them in WvW.

They say that evil never triumphs. I am sheer proof that the statement is completely false.

Just kidding about the griefing other people part, I don’t do that. Not joking about looting them from lowbies and jumping puzzles though.

How did you forge 200g worth of rares but get it in your 5th try? Do you mean you got dawn then continued to forge

Tried to get one from the toilet a few times but quit doing that before it amounted to much gold. Figured it was a losing battle.

First acct: Got Leaf of Kudzu from Karka event chest, wasnt interested in Kudzo so I sold it a few months later. Bought The Hunter off the TP. Still working on the T6 mats for it.

Second acct: The Hunter dropped from a Scarlet Invasion Event, made the Predator.
Bought The Legend from the TP and made Bifrost. Bought Rage from the TP, and it is on the list to do at some point.

Neither. I didn’t buy it from the TP, nor did I get it as a random drop, nor through the mystic forge. Mine was given to me by a random forums goer

That is the best kind of drop.

Maybe there is hope for humanity yet, (laugh) nah!.
