Do pants not exist in Tyria?
I think when they decided to have 3 armour weights part of the reasoning was they wanted them to be distinctive, so you could always tell what kind of character you were fighting (at least generally) by looking at them.
Of course that went out the window with outfits being added, so it’s not really relevant any more. But they haven’t created many armour sets since then.
I’m really hoping the next expansion is going to include some more varied armor, like trousers for light armoured characters, less long coats for medium and…I don’t really know what I want for heavy, other than something a little bit feminine my asura can wear. (The carapace shoulder with the butterfly would be perfect, but she gets the male version.)
(BTW am I the only British-English speaker who always finds these topics a bit amusing? Over here pants is short for underpants, so I get this image of warriors running around in their boxer shorts.)

As a Necro, I totally agree. I would sell my soul and a kidney for some pants and tight stuff. Sooo tired of long, puffy skirts. I miss GW1 Necro armor.
Mean while, my asura engineer is over here wishing for anything that’s not pants. they could throw in more than one PvP aquired non butt-cape/trench-coat chest armor while they’re at it. But I agree, I’ve got those awful harem pants on my Ele right now, but I’d love some better options.

I wish we could mix-n-match Light-Medium armor because I like Medium pants!

Will pay gems for tighty-whities!

Why? A necromancer manipulates dead material and undead spirits in much the same way an elementalist manipulates elements. They don’t have to be dead, or soulless, themselves to do it.

I used to believe that Arenanet recycle the starting blocks of weapons and armour models and then just place distinctive unique bits on top of those models. Having experienced the Arenanet way, I expect they build everything from scratch every time, and it’s just coincidence that it all looks very similar.
In all honesty, GW2 is in desperate need of some sophisticated designed, elegant armours, because most of what we have now are sort of chunky, especially the heavy armour boots. Oh the horror!
I’d love some trousers for light armours, and mid or full length coats, or even long assymetrical male skirts, for medium – is it only me who finds the male Sneakthief set to be, by far, the best looking armour?
…and the gem store team should start thinking about creating more sets with separated parts, like the Viper set they gave us some time ago. I don’t understand this obsession with outfits.

Anet said about a year ago (maybe more) that they would not be releasing new armour sets in the gem store because players complained that too many were coming out that way compared to in-game.
Instead they make outfits (which used to be town clothes), which are also easier to produce because they can make just 1 at a time instead of needing a heavy, medium and light set to come out together and they don’t need to be able to mix-and-match the pieces, so they also don’t need to worry about making sure they don’t clip with every other outfit.

Thanks, Danikat. I wasn’t aware of past events and ANet’s decision. Still. The Viper set was really good!
Really Danikat? Pants is short for underpants in the country that invented and made popular the pantaloons? I am highly suspicious.
But yes, I would like more pant like armor for my ele and necro to wear. Although I suspect that there will be no new additions to armor for some time.

It was a classic case of Anet missing the point. Players thought that maybe Anet could tone down the amount of gem store armor sets, so that they can work more on armor as in-game rewards. What happened instead is that Anet shifted their gem store devs to the creation of outfits, which means that there are less armor sets coming out nowadays, since the rate at which in-game reward armor sets are being released is basically unchanged.
I get that they need to make money, but in-game rewards are an important aspect of the game, that keeps people playing. If the rewards are always the easier skins to implement, like weapon skins, minis and backpacks, there will be a saturation point. There are only so many weapon skins you can use. On the other hand, there are way less pieces of chest and leg armor to compete against when makng new ones, and armor pieces are great for mix and matching too, which makes them more difficult to get tired of earning.
I’m not sure if downsizing the gem store team would be a wise desision though at this point. In my opinion they should hire a few more skin designers instead, and make them work on in-game rewards. Maybe thay can also abolish the no armor set policy of the gem store. It obviously has done nothing in regards to what the players really wanted. I am sure that there would be plenty of happy customers if we got some gem store armor sets, instead of only getting outfits.
I fully agree, Ganathar. +1
It is time for ANet to throw some new pieces as in-game rewards, too.
Seriously though, every weapon on my mesmer clips through the skirts that they are forced to wear (aside from the 2 pants currently available which, let’s be honest, are pretty awful).
Why does the design team insist on all light armor being some kind of dress, skirt, skirt over pants, dress over pants…? How about, you know, some actual, cool looking pants for once?
Pants, please. That is all.
How about a pants-suit?
Mesmers should wear armor like this instead of the common light armor. They are to fabulous to wear the clothes that Necros or Elementalists are wearing.

This is exactly what we need. I miss the old GW1 simple skins. GW2 has too many fancy, overcomplicated armor designs. GW1 Necro armor here! Look at all the tight stuff! -grabby hands-
Beside the little towel accompanying it, the heavy armor ascended trouser is the most trouserish trouser available.^^
Do pants not exist in Tyria?
Yes. They exist in Tyria.

I do miss the old necro style too, was very distinct to the profession, although mixing bdsm and goth styles.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.
You know, it’s not just pants. I have trouble finding proper dresses for my Mesmer and Necromancer. The ones that do exist are either too short, too weird or too bulky.
I don’t mind sexy but a bit of elegance perhaps?
