Do they have the resources for this?
No I don’t think they do. If you look at their track record with guild wars 1, it seems like squashing bugs is not their first priority. While it’s impossible to say what’s going on behind the scenes some of their posts here on the forums at least point to the fact that they don’t have a community team in place for the kind of PR-type response that some in the community are demanding at this point.
Lets have this conversation this time next year. I think they’ll do fine, though.

Its a shame that ANET doesn’t have the community PR reps that it used to.
Just furthering the discussion… consider the game before this weekend, during, and after. Consider what you know about arenanet in guild wars 1. Staying nuetral for now, is it possible that they view their lack of response to our feedback as better than providing several blogs or posts addressing it?
Hi,
First off, I this is not a post for or against arenanet. It is not meant to be derogatory, trolling, or attacking. With the recent patch, the overwhelming bugs and lag, the overwhelming negative feedback and response to Ascended gear, Fractal levels, Legendary handouts, with the underwhelming response that has been provided from arenanet to address our concerns… Do you think Arenanet, as a development studio, has the resources(financially, personnel, infrastructure, creativity, skill) to maintain/support/appease the game and the playerbase? Does it have its “virtual finger” on the pulse of the community, providing what we want, in accordance to what they think is best for the game?
I will not add my own opinion just yet. Just starting a discussion.
In other words, concerning all aspects of developing and maintaining an MMO, do you think Arenanet is up to the challenge?

Practically this entire post is based on opinion. They’ve already shown they’re up to the challenge as they continue to improve upon an already great game.
Ofcourse the thread is going to be people’s opinions. Thats the whole point. I’ve restrained my self from providing my own opinion in this thread. I think Ive done enough of that recently. Im just trying to start a civil conversation, for and against.

I don’t think they did their homework before starting this trend of a gear treadmill or limiting the gameplay to just one dungeon for progression.
Every other game that’s used this same model has failed in the past year or so. It’s obvious without seeing a graph why people left other titles that had alot bigger budgets.
The community they are trying to appeal to with this new gear treadmill, higher tier vertical progression is the same community that over the past two years has bounced from one title to the next never staying for very long in any one title. They are basically inviting financial suicide before this game is even one year old by inviting these types of players to the game.
Those of us who are casual who stick with games for years who aren’t taken in by shinies and who spend money on companies based solely on if they provide good quality fun, aren’t the target for this new patch.
I predict that they’ll have to adjust the gear to match the current Exotics, release crafting recipes so people can make the infused armors, adjust the drop rates of items to actually be able to make those items and make them available open world and by then it might be too late. You see when you make promises to the gaming community and then you do a complete 180 people don’t forget or forgive that in this community. They may have damaged their reputation beyond repair with this one.
They have yet to finish repairing the glaring problems the adventurer classes have had to endure and the loot issues, adding this as a new project will only further alienate their original playerbase and when those players who are only interested in new shinies are gone, there won’t be enough left to keep the game going.

No, your post is opinion based.
Opinion. I don’t see these" overwhelming bugs and lag. I see a handful of people complaining about ascended gear based purely on misconceptions. I don’t see a problem with Fractal levels or with people getting precursors for legendary weapons. I don’t see an “underwhelming response” from ANet regarding things that I don’t see as issues in the first place. ANet continues to be impressive in their development and progression of the game. In, of course, my opinion.
But you can’t state your opinions as facts to base a conversation around.
My post might hint at my bias one way or another but the intent remains the same. To begin a conversation regarding Arenanet’s capabilities as a development studio. I advise you to stay on topic because the mods love to infract you for straying even the slightest
It’s TOO soon to ask this. Not even a week folks!! Really? It’s not fair! Please, stop!! It’s insulting to them and it’s only lowering the chances of decent communication.
GIVE THEM TIME.
If this gets moderated, it’s fair (for a change)

Considering they’ve given us two great updates already, kicked the living… um… let’s go with “kitten”… out of the bots, fixed numerous bugs and continue to do so and in general produced what I see as the best game on the market the answer is a resounding yes regarding their capabilities, regardless of whether or not you’re trying to use your biased against opinion to spark a negative, ANet bashing thread.
Perfectly on topic.
Try not focusing on me. And re-read the first sentence in the post.
Try not focusing on me.
Isn’t this a thread about whether or not your opinions about ANet’s capabilities are true or not? Seems like it, and I say they’re not as evidenced by what ANet has done to date.
Dude, all I started was a topic to see what people thought of their capabilities. I think youre reading too much into this. Post your opinion and move along. This is becoming an ill-witted attempt to troll my thread and illicit a negative reaction from me concerning my opinion, so that you can beat your chest and say you are correct.
Youve stated your opinion. 1/1 for you. Move along now
Seriously, this is baiting negativity for the sake of it. Stop, people.

I am welcoming positive and negative feedback. Its all opinion. Everything is welcome, no one is wrong.

If that’s true, then ideally you’d remove the negativity from your post and instead ask the question in a neutral manner. By listing nothing but things you opine as negatives you’ve “poisoned the well” as far as the direction of the conversation would be driven. If you do need to give what you consider negatives regarding their capabilities, you should also include positives, such as a new tier of gear designed to bridge the “time to acquire” gap from exotics to legendary, a new and ridiculously fun dungeon, a new jumping puzzle that most people I’ve seen think is a blast, new recipes for crafters added, new sPvP map added, new content, things of that nature.
If you want a balanced conversation, begin with a balanced post.
Fine, i’ll bite ¬¬
Yes I think they have the skills to make a kick kitten game in almost every department, be it technical, be it in creativity or innovation, assuming those people are still there. If that people are still there, they should be allowed to work and do what they do (assuming the case is management pressure). But since we know kitten of what’s going on, what does our opinion amount to? And this soon?
I dont know about the ability to pull it off. I dont have expertise in the field of support this type of technology.
I can tell you what I see.
Account security debacle
Inability to deal with botters/exploiters
Consistent game bugs
poor cash shop
Poor communication post launch
Events that are bugged and out of tune with surroundings
Unable to balance PvP properly
WvW a huge mess
PVE – Toast.
I will not doubt skill whatsoever. The game looks and runs good with exception of Orr that content is 90% bugged. The communication before launch was great now pitiful.
They were unprepared for what hit them and they have been playing catch up since day 1. They probably do have the resources but they continue to make errors that are causing so much conflict that there is no ability to work on the above so they further fall behind.
Most issues could be addressed by a simple state of the game and vision statement followed up by input from the various teams showing where they are heading. But I think it is far beyond that now.
I would think these forums exist for a reason. To voice opinion, create discussion, go back and forth, different points of view. It is also one of the only areas that the developer could get feedback. Id like to think that they listen, any developer that is.
