Do trolls face suspension?
Stop raging and block him, problem solved. Also report him by email or in game. Trolls win by getting people mad.

The trolling was in game play, not communication. Thus the blocking does not really apply here. Obviously avoiding cursing and raging is easier said than done, but I get it – I am not arguing that.
It’s life, life isn’t fair. I hate the fact that people post things on forums asking a question, and people turn around and respond with things that are not relavant to what the Op is asking/suggesting.
People are bored and do things like that to spark something.
Best to just leave and ignore.
So he like stood on your pixels or something? Possible answer could be to exit the game for 30 mins and he’ll be gone. He won’t get banned for something you can’t prove.

And you are a perfect example. Op was talking about trolls. I gave an example. Op stated that there are trolls that do things and get away without punishment. Much like the people on the forum who go onto other threads and start demoralizing and degrading others, and have yet to get any form of punishment. Kiss my kitten you motherkittener.
And you aren’t demoralizing and degrading me? I told him to stop raging and block/ report, is that not useful information? What he really wants can never happen because well…the troll did nothing wrong. Isn’t part of the GW2 manifesto play how you want?
Cool yo jets.

No and they make really good hunters and Druids.

" Like how relavant your post is " you’re trying to spark something here, you son of a kitten. It’s kitten like you that make the forums often annoying to go to.
It’s like I killed your unborn child. Wow.. I’m sorry I ruined your whole weekend.
Wish there was a block/ignore feature in the forums, nevertheless I have you blocked in game, good riddance.
I do not want to turn this thread into a venting or unsolicited advice thread. I know the game. I have 4300+ achievement points and I am a gw1 veteran. I am also over 30 years old and, trust me, I knew I was not using clear judgement when I insulted these people. Albeit anet was too trigger happy, I am deserving of the suspension and gladly taking a break. Matter of fact, I just got the phone number of a very nice Russian girl in a coffee shop. I would not have been there had I been playing. So, I am not looking for pity or people reminding me what I did wrong.
My question is basically whether anyone knows of trolls getting banned for disruptive game play. Is there a precedent to that? That is all.

Lol, do you intend to go after this person and harass them in-game? Doesn’t matter if you have alts, the block is on your account ID and so affects all your characters.
If they are truly doing something to inhibit your gameplay and you feel that it at least needs to be addressed then by all means send some screenshots or make a video and explain the situation thoroughly. Nothing may happen, or maybe a warning will be thrown out or something. You don’t know till you try.
But sadly “trolling” seems to be the new thing these days. If you can, do you best to just avoid them and carry on. The kids get bored pretty easy if you don’t react. :/

Expect your infraction count rising.
Also, welcome to the interwebs.
Lastly, it’s with a huge grin on my face that I have to point out that you’ve just demonstrated what the original topic is about. You have crossed the line (drawn up by the people who govern the forums) and you can expect punishment… even if the other party incited you to do so. Said party never broke the rules. It would have been wise to ignore it and move on…

so you were exploiting an event and the dude decided to finish it? So he played the game as it was intended and you’re mad with him?
Katreyn, you are correct. Making a video or taking some shots would probably be the only option. But I doubt they would carefully review any of these things at Anet. If someone drops an insult, it is very easy to track and relatively easy to quantify. Hindering game play for other involves someone reviewing a lot of things, and it will not be done. While Anet does have a rule book they stick to it for so called justice, they mainly stick to it to save themselves time and effort. It also completely obliterates any possible legal action against them. After all, we know swearing in this Country is the devil, right?
Anyway, that is off topic. I have to assume there is no such way to report a troll that would not involve an elaborate plan. So, yes, agreeing with you all, ignoring them and blocking them as much as possible is the way to go.
See you in a couple of days. Hit me up for some dungeon action.

Haha, thank you for your rhetoric. It was about 40 of us farming an event and 2 or 3 finishing it, when we were asking them not to (mind you, these folks also use the same event for farming for themselves too). It also involved dropping banners and consumables that directly affected those people were intending to use. But, yes, you are correct. I hope you feel as wise and vindicated as you probably deserve.
Still, be aware that there is no such thing as a way to play the game. That is what Anet tells us and how they make their money.

Please link the page where it’s stated that not finishing an event is an exploit. Thanks.

still remember that for exploits you get banned and such bugs get fixed. I think I know the event you’re talking about and I hope it will be fixed so it wouldn’t spawn a never ending number of enemies. You have no right to complain about a dude that actually finished the event as it was intended. Trolling or not, there’s nothing in the rules against him and there’s something in the rules against you.

exploiting a bug for your own personal gain is an exploit. An event not finishing is a bug. Normally events have time limits or a way to automatically fail if certain conditions are not met.

This is my example. The original intent of the thread had no example. It was a general question. While I do agree this one case is likely not a suspension worthy situation, there are other in which trolling can be so, such as hindering pvp play. So, the validity of my concern and question stands. It is your choice to play devil’s advocate and you have a winning argument. The reality is that mmos are live entities and the players mold it, just like real life. Hindering an event people have decided to play in a certain way is just not what you should be doing, albeit you can do it.

Please know that I’m not taking sides here. I’d really like to know people’s views on this because there are quite a number of these events that can be farmed in this way.
Some events have timers linked to them so they ‘expire’ after a while but others were specifically coded to form part of a flow of events – and as such were developed to function without a timer. Working as intended… or bugged. I think only Arenanet will be able to answer this one.
Ok I give up… which one is the troll?
How do you close a thread?

sorry for seeming a bit harsh with my previous comment. In my opinion when one sees an event without a timer being abused like that they should send out a bug report asking was this intended or should it be fixed.
I wouldn’t say to report people doing it. I normally wouldn’t be against people doing it, but when a person suggests directly attacking another person that was actually completing the event I would say that the timeless event has gotten out of hand.

In my opinion the validity of your question stands only if a specific example is presented. Some cases that you consider to be trolling might not be trolling. Specific cases of trolling can be reported as “harassment” (for example, a person is following you around on every map you go to and is attempting to kill off enemies before you get to them so your question would take longer). Some specific trolling examples can be worthy of a discussion (example: in a moba if you go afk and do nothing trough out the whole match, just taking up space you can be reported for that. I imagine if a person was doing so specifically in spvp, moving his character from time to time so he wouldn’t be logged off, but just standing in the base, so that his team would feel like they are one guy short) it’s not a reportable offense, but there we could have an actual discussion should it be or not. So the validity of your post completely depends on in depth examples that you can provide
