Guild Wars 2

Just out of curiosity.

Initially, I had a male and female of every race, spanning all classes. Once I maxed all of those out, I just started buying more character slots, and lost count of what I have now.

I’m not really sure what the question is….

I have all Professions, and I have characters of each Race. I don’t have all 5 Races in each or any Profession, nor all 9 Professions in any one Race.

I do this too. Mine are:

Ranger – Sylvari

Necromancer – Asura
Elementalist – Norn
Engineer – Human

I would also love new races for the very same reason…. at least tengu… I would love me a tengu guardian or mesmer.

The only one missing in my lineup is a Norn. I’m in the process of formulating a character, but I’m not quite ready materialize him just yet (need to buy another character slot).

Only one I am missing is Charr, and I have no idea what to do with them.

Although I will admit these are all crafting toons. I main Druid and rarely play the others.

I have one of every class with two other slots used either as a mule or key farm. That’ll change at the end of the month.

I have an Asura necro and norn ranger. I never cared much for sylvari or Charr although I think I did recently rush through a world completion on a Charr with a spare slot before deleting it.

Every profession: Sylvari. :P Because I’m such a Sylvari fangirl. XD
My other fave combos: Asura – Ele, Sylvari – Mesmer, Charr – Engi, Human – Thief,
Norn – Ranger.

What about male/female of each race? That would be ten toons, one of each profession and double up on your favorite.

Myself, I’ve created and deleted dozens of toons looking for the mix of race/profession I like. I don’t have an organized system, but I don’t care much for the Charr or male Norns, they distort the non-cultural armors too much for my tastes and just look weird overall. I ended up with more Sylvari than anything else, a few female Norns, and a couple of humans and Asura.

Yesterday I decided to purchase HoT and I’m starting over with a fresh account with four Sylvari, one each for the light/medium/heavy armor professions and a “boss runner” to use the 80-level token on. Visually speaking, they are the most varied race, with a lot of different options in skin color, face and hair style, etc.

Norn Thief has been my main since 2012.

I do have one of each profession, but mostly just for utility (crafting, extra storage) purposes.

For a long time I had one of each race, but then I decided I wanted a Mesmer and a revenant too so the only ones I was missing were warrior and necromancer. I decided I may as well make the full set.

So now I have:

• Human female ranger
• Sylvari female elementalist
• Norn female engineer
• Charr male thief
• Ausra female guardian
• Sylvari female mesmer
• Norn male revenant
• Asura male necromancer
• Sylvari male warrior

If I ever make another permanent character they’re going to be a female charr. (Or a new race.)

There is only one race – asura.

I’m planning on adding a Charr female Revenant and a Asura male Ranger eventually.

Now that I’ve made a Revenant I do finally have at least one of each race/gender. I haven’t selected classes in much of a pattern beyond having more of the ones I enjoy playing, less of the ones I don’t.

Human males: Daredevil, DH, Chronomancer, Elementalist (recently 80, working on Tempest)
Human females: Chronomancer, Necromancer, Berserker (necro has no bag space so I haven’t HoTted her yet)
Sylvari males: Berserker, Mesmer (with Chrono unlocked)
Sylvari females: DH, Reaper
Norn male: Scrapper
Norn females: Druid, Reaper
Asura male: Necromancer (not played much, will be a Reaper some day)
Asura female: Mesmer (don’t recall if she has Chrono unlocked, she’s mostly for JPs)
Charr male: Revenant (working on Herald)
Charr female: Tempest

Some made because I wanted to level an alt, some made for specific RP reasons, some made just to have at least one of each profession, with race chosen for a variety of reasons at the time of creation.

Of these my first five at launch were human male Thief, sylvari female Guardian, asura female Mesmer, charr female Elementalist, human female Warrior. The choices were based on beta testing (and the human male Thief was already a major RP character for me thanks to pre-launch forum RP).

Engineer, Elemantalist and Warrior are Asura.
Ranger, Guardian and Necro is Norn.
Theif and Revenant is Sylvari.
Chronomancer is Human.
All girls. Ive tried to play a Charr at least 3 times.. just cant commit to them.
And I must say.. Asura in my heart

Generally, no, I don’t have a race-class pairing of any sort. Though lorewise I wonder about it, since it is hard to imagine a warrior asura being of any use, or a charr bring themselves to become a mesmer. And there’s got to be a divide in the sexes as well, since the chances that a woman will become a big burly guardian is probably less likely than becoming one of the light armor classes.

Side note: as a reoccurring joke in the game, my human male mesmer will proclaim that the reason why he learned to become a mesmer was because the illusionist magic college was filled full of hot ladies. This is based on an event in real life, wherein one of the visiting college students to our middle school was trying to inspire/advertise his program to us. He was in education, and while he lead with the generic slew of platitudes that the education program sells (sense of fulfillment, getting to work with the community, respect from your peers, yadda yadda), he did offer one strange tidbit: his chosen career path was a “total babefest”. One of his selling point for choosing a career in education is that there were hot women everywhere.

Regardless, take note of the demographics in this game: female mesmers (usually human) are everywhere, wherein male mesmers are extremely sparse. When doing triple trouble with a guild, it was more common than not that, among the entire 150 man event, I was the only male mesmer.

I have all 9 professions in all 5 races… plus some extra’s. 51 toons i believe. Thats not counting the 8 on my second account.

My friends and i initially went this direction to be able to play through all the different storychoices, then it grew out into something bigger.

Quite funny because when Guildwars 2 was announced, my initial reaction was “Hell, im not going to fall into the toon creation trap again”. In GW1 i had 3 accounts and about 40 characterslots in total. When gw2 was announced i selected all the mains from the different accounts and rerolled them onto one account for the sake of reserving their names, but i did not use any of them save one.

Ofcourse, i had planned on only 8 toons initially, but even before release i had upped that number to 14.. I had names for them and everything. Those 14 were created on Day 1.

I kept creating toons on a whim until my australian friend decided she would go for 40. one of each profession for each race. My Swiss friend and i decided to do the same and we soon each sported 40 level 80 characters… and soon after that wasnt enough anymore. The second account is mainly for PvP dailies.

I have a spreadsheet to keep track of where each toon is in the stories, day of creation, how far they are with mapcompletion etc… An excel file my Swiss friend created, she had one in GW1 aswell.

Am i addicted? Probably so. I constantly feel the urge to create another character, play around with looks etc.

I tried now he is promoted and taking care of the University or I mean home.

I play one of each original profession except Necro (because no matter what I tell myself, I still don’t want stinky dead things following me around).

My 1st character was a female Human Elementalist. During points when I was frustrated, I remade her as a mesmer, then remade her again as an elementalist. My 1st thief was a human female; now that character name & appearance are my mesmer. Another female human character is my thief now. I have male humans, an Engineer and a Guardian. Human racial skills are so-so compared to profession skills. I don’t use them.

I have 1 Norn Warrior, but I don’t see any point in having a Norn because they are basically enlarged humans, and their racial skills seem to be next to useless; I may abandon that character and make a human warrior. (Boring, right?) My Norn was originally a Guardian, though I’ve also tried a Ranger version, which seems intuitive because of their association with animals.

I tried an Asura Engineer, which seems like ‘two great tastes that taste great together’, and I may retry that at some point; the Asura racials have their uses, at least in PVE, though profession skills are almost always superior. My current Asura is a Ranger because I wanted to see if that combination was interesting. Unfortunately, I’ve already noticed that I want mechanical animals…it’s an Asura, after all. I’m still interested, of course, in running a golem and pet at the same time when I get high enough level.

The Charr are not my favorite race. Their racial skills are solid enough, but my distaste for overly militaristic societies (real life) hampers my efforts to play one, along with my annoying insistence on recognizing things like “Charr would never be able to actually speak because their mouths aren’t shaped right”. These are silly limitations because the race isn’t real, and it’s just a video game. Nevertheless, I currently have no Charr characters. I believe I’ve only tried one, an Engineer.

The Sylvari racial skills have their uses, though again, profession skills end up outshining them. My 1st lvl 80 was a Sylvari thief. I lost that thief because I got frustrated with the game and erased all my characters. (Good Lord, me, overreact much?!!) When I came back to give it another try, my name was taken by another player. I have tried Ranger (start with a ready-made dog/plant partner!), Warrior, and Engineer (temporary extra turret!). I currently have no Sylvari characters.

I probably would have more combinations if I had more than 7 character slots.
