Do you miss Guild Wars 1 ?
Server : Dragonbrand
No.
Played it for 3 years. Moved on. Then played LOTRO for 3.5 years and moved on. Now I am enjoying GW2.

Nope.

Not really, its still installed, so if I want to play it its free and there if I choose to. Plenty still to do there for HoM and its a different game so I dont feel like I’m taking a backward step (even though dervishes got changed and I never really got back into him).
I do however get very nostalgic when the GW1 music kicks in! As good as the score is in GW2, overall I much prefer the original music.
I miss the emotes. Where is my /bored /pout /yawn /scratch and many more. They are apparently in game since you dont get “Unknown command” error if you type them, but there is not animation
Yes. I was looking forward to Guild Wars 1 with better graphics, revamped skill system and a non-instanced world. Instead I got WoW with no raids and the ability to dodge.
I miss the PvP.
PvP in GW2 is severely lacking and clearly unfinished. Lack of game modes, no observer mode, and poor class balance.
Its also perplexing why they chose to make a insignificant Halloween mini-game ‘costume brawl’ from the original game into a full feature which is what s/tPvP is today rather than GvG.
The casual PvP is also dull. I see WvW is an evolution to alliance battles but now it’s totally a zerg-fest that’s only fun for very brief periods of time. GW1 Alliance battles was fun because you could make a small team and go capture points and skirmish with other small teams but WvW you cannot even do that because you’ll most likely get facerolled by 20 other people who haven’t even loaded onto the screen yet.

MAn i played wow GW2 is no wow. ((although its not GW1 ether))
nope, not missing it one bit at all, quite happy here, specially since my have my friend playing with me

I would have agreed two months ago. It isn’t quite there yet. Give it time. It is getting there. Much closer to WoW than GW1.

how so? I dont give me that Gear treadmill Crap, Gear in this game is still MUCH easier to get and less important to how well you do in this game than it is in a game like WoW ((not to mention it is planed that ALL gear can be obtend in Moltaple way’s not just dungeons))
the thing people seem to not understand is that unlike wow all the content in this game is ((or is ment to be)) optional, on how you progress. when they add Acended to other parts of the game Fractals will no longer be required ((something A_net is well aware was a Kitten Up))

They did however add that they plan to expand on the ascended gear. Bypassing the actual gear and turning the grind into the upgrade component doesn’t change it from a gear grind.
It’s hard to miss a game I can go back to any time I wish. I still like the game, if that’s what you mean.

I really miss my speed clears.
Group of sins tearing down a dungeon was so much fun.
I miss my UWSC and FoWSC play style in GW2 as well, I had a toon for every area.
Glf 100b/Vos, UA, EoE, MoP, MT, T1, T2 to Go FoWSC!
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”
I put this here as theres no Guild Wars 1 forum. Curious how people feel. I’m in Guild Wars 1 right now as im typing this and its refreshing. Been playing the game since day 1. How do you feel about Guild Wars….. 3 months after Guild Wars 2 took over??
There should be no Guild Wars 2 forum either. This explains a lot though, you guys had years and years of pent up forum anger that you are unleashing on the masses now that you have a voice! Viola! Mystery solved!
There really wasn’t any anger to yell about in GW1. A-net was a different company that listened to its customers and didn’t go back on their word. And if a big change was coming to the game, they informed us well ahead of the time and gave us reasons. They didn’t tell us a few days before, kept everything in the dark. Then gave a reason that was half-baked and had to expand on it later.
Not in the least. It was a very forgettable game for me. I’ve never been one for playing dressup though.

screw that noise If you cant deal with that than you should just stop playing video games ((more so MMO’s)) all together
I have. The whole point of playing GW2 was because they said there wouldn’t be a power grind. Only an optional aesthetic grind. Now that I’ve learned that even the best of companies can’t keep their word. I stopped playing GW2. I’ll wait until the next company comes along and tries to do this. Doesn’t mean I can’t troll the forums and keep myself up to date with what they are doing. As well as push to get the game back to its glory.
I miss it. I still log in on peak days and do zaishen, or try to find a DoA run. Maybe I’ll farm wintersday snowball fight of the gods this year again, I always enjoyed those.
My favourite parts were the level and armor cap, and free-to-reset attribute points. It really made different playstyles more viable, even if I had to be in an outpost to switch. I had my elite armor set for my main build, and cheap armors for any build I would want to change to, and I could be equally effective regardless of armor prestige.
Now, if I want to try running something new, I need to pay to reset my points every time, farm for gold to get exotic armors with specific stats, farm for gold to get weapons with specific stats, all the while knowing that the devs intend to raise the future level cap and introduce new armor tiers, rendering everything I have obsolete. It’s kinda disheartening – when I got Vabbian armor, I felt like I had achieved something; when I got my exotics, I was glad that ordeal was over, with the thought of future tiers looming over my head.
Yes, although its still installed and I have done everything I wanted and needed to do. I can still pop in when it takes my fancy.
Things I miss
Gameplay – Having goals and being able to do them goals without the worry that my maxed gear will shortly become obsolete. Actually knowing what goal to go for, for the same reason, always logged on and had some goal to go for, now I just sit on GW2 wondering whether its worth going for this, that or the other just to find it will be obsolete by the time I get it. Basically I miss the pure Horizontal progression, I knew where I was and knew if I took a lengthy break for personal reason I could come back without feeling I was left far behind and need to grind to catch up and can just enjoy the many things to do in the game without worrying about increasing my gear stats.
I miss the solo friendly feeling GW1 had too. If there was parts of the game you didn’t want to group up for you didnt have to with the Heroes/Hench facility. In GW2 I am forced to group up and PUG in a party with random peeps to do dungeons and even my own Personal story. However I do prefer the open worldness of GW2 where you can just help other people you meet (without having the feeling I was forced to help or join)
The community – it was less stressy and less anxious, no segregation due to mixed progression, no elitism (coz grinding shows your awesomeness more than skill right?), GW1 seemed more sociable and less bickering.
Builds/Skills – The freedom of being able to mess and experiment with a multitude of builds without the need to spend everytime I wanted to change a build. Plus collecting the skills and capping the Elites.
The Guilds – Probably my biggest miss. I loved the guild structure, the guild halls etc. I played with my guildmates for nearly 7 yrs, we became like a family. There feels none of that in GW2. Guild mates and friends from GW1 have all but left now due to recent ascended addition.
Edit: forgot to add
Communication – Miss how the devs communicated everything clearly and often. For example patch updates and game changes. Just at the moment we don’t seem to get any clarity from the devs with regards to patches and updates. Too much vagueness and kept in the dark.

Logged into GW1 the other day for the first time in months (after having played it for years), generated a new character, played until I hit about level 2. Quit. Considered uninstalling.
I loved the game, but it’s time has passed. Going back feels like a severe step backwards. Hell, you can’t even jump or go in the water.
I honestly never liked the game. I tried several times because I really do love the lore, but there were aspects of the gameplay I never could get past. In GW2 is get the lore and enjoy the gameplay (obviously there are some kinks to be worked out).
I’m back in GW1 now. Started a new toon for old times’ sake.
I’ll check in on GW2 for holidays because ANet always does such a nice job with them (Halloween was the only time it felt like home to me since GW2 came out). But I don’t know what kind of game GW2 is right now, so I’ll come back to it maybe in a year or two.
Meantime, enjoying the music and the guild hall and the heroes.

Could’nt agree more.
I didn’t play Guild Wars long, but I do miss heroes and henchmen (I’d love to have them for an instant dungeon party). I also miss all the skills.

Nope.
There are a few things that GW1 did better, but none of them matter more than gameplay, in which GW2 has done astronomically better.

I loved the game, but it’s time has passed. Going back feels like a severe step backwards. Hell, you can’t even jump or go in the water.
One of the odd criticisms often leveled at the original Guild Wars was the lack of swimming, and especially jumping.
And now there is totally free movement and combat through a watery environment, that quite alot of people avoid due to it’s inherent quirkiness and cumbersome combat mechanics, and swimming is primarily a means to get to the next piece of land.
Much the same could be said of the ability to jump. Aside from the clever addition of jumping puzzles as a mini-game diversion, and the placement of vistas as an incentive to jump up a mountain, the jump’s total effect on gameplay is fairly irrelevant. In terms of combat, the meat and drink of fantasy mmo’s, it really does not serve a great deal of purpose.
Not to belittle the flavour activities, such as breath-taking vistas or difficult to reach underwater POI’s, but the derision of Guild Wars for a lack of these things is perplexing.
Take WoW, for instance. The jump mechanic serves as a valuable tool in how many situations that a player would come across every day? Swimming was necessary because?
The addition of water obstacles to traverse, and hills and cliffs to be painstakingly jumped up, always felt a contrived time-waster.
Anyhow, will stop blathering now. Just a vent that seemed necessary about a superfluous gameplay mechanic that is often quite surprisingly brought to the table to discount Guild Wars – a game which I always found to be perfectly streamlined in it’s mechanics, especially in view of it’s age.
Yes. I actually reinstalled GW1, but deinstalled again after cause it was pretty much dead now. (even kamadan america had only 1 district o.O)
If anyone would release another GW1 with modern graphics, I would never play GW2.
Loved GvG in gw1. Probably the funnest pvp of any game. Loved the pve, despite the max party 8 mechanics. Loved to solo, and run dungeons for mad $$$$ on my monk. Still love gw2, despite lacking in the solo department and the gvg department. Observer mode is something they are working on (so they say).
Edit: Miss my monk like omfg

Kamadan can even have just one district??!
Oh lordie, seems the foretelling of the end times is truly upon us, if that can happen.
I do miss it. The world felt like something I was a part of, that never happened to me in GW2.
I did log in again yesterday and it was just nice to be there. I think I will start playing it again when the winter event hits. Just something about Ascalon in the snow…
I have lot of good memories of it, and as a nostalgic point of view, sure i miss it.
But i don’t wanna play it anymore unless least some of my friends would play it too, which is not gonna happen.
Not that they play gw2 either anymore, but since it’s fresh game i don’t need them to play myself ocasionally.
Although i played GW1 for 7 years i dont know i could go back and it have the same feel . I’ll probably check in on it every now and then but as far as enjoying it as much as i once did im not so sure
I miss the good ol’days, when towns were full and henchies were so godaweful you HAD to team up with players or fail like a madman. I really hated the introduction of heroes in GW1, and made me turn to PvP instead of PvE. Got addicted to GvG for about 18 months, then quit when my guild slowly fell apart.
But I have some very fond memories of GW1.

Excellent answer thanks it has saved me a lot of typing
Yes I miss all of these too and ditto with the guildmates!
Although i played GW1 for 7 years i dont know i could go back and it have the same feel . I’ll probably check in on it every now and then but as far as enjoying it as much as i once did im not so sure
Yeh the thing is that since they started working on GW2, GW1 hasn’t really had much of new content added to it. War in Kryta was ok but the main problem with GW1 is the lack of expansions. Also for a lot of people the 2D maps (cannot jump on things) is rough as well.
I do believe though that GW2 could’ve stayed a lot closer to GW1 in many things and I think I miss GW1 especially when I played GW2 because it was more immersive. It seems GW2 is all hype and shinies oriented, with little actual substance. GW1 did much better in that department.
GW2 is a fun game and has a lot of strengths, and i have and still am enjoying it thoroughly. That being said, the things i miss most about GW1 are :
1) The skill system and individuality. The hundreds of skills to choose from created a playstyle unique to the player. In gw2, you are forced to use the same 5 wep skills and choose from a meagre utility pool with no flavor in the elite skills. Although there were cookie cutter builds in GW1, most notably in most HM/SC groups, most builds, whether tweaked cookie cutters or self made, were usually acceptable and unique.
If GW2 were to expand its skill system by adding a lot of options to both weapon skills, (chained and unchained) utility and elite skills to the level variety of GW1 I would be very happy. Coupled with the in-depth stat system (via items/traits) of GW2, this could create very unique and personal builds.
2) GvG and HoH. I know GvG and more guild features are in the works so I wont go into detail for that. But for me the structured tournament PvP doesn’t compare with Hall of Heroes (later known as TA). Winning the favor of the gods meant access to an elite farming or chest running area(s), so winning HoH/TA for your home region meant alot. Plus, the winning team’s guild or leader’s name was displayed globally so it truly did give you renown. Also, /rank was pretty awesome.
3) More than 5 man parties. This is being addressed though so I am looking forward to what A-net rolls out here
I miss GW1 a lot…the feeling when I played Prophecies for the first time. The game was awesome. I miss the most the best pvp I have played ever… GvG and HA.
GW2 is overall the better game, but the depth & breadth of skills and builds in GW1 is way better. I find GW2’s fixed weapon skills to be quite limited and boring by comparison.
I miss the combat system, particularly in PvP but also PvE.
I am talking about the very specific builds and specialised roles you would have to play in GvG or elite missions. Managing mana and skills, as well as cooldowns. Even swapping weapon sets and cancelling casting. There were so many decisions you had to make, you would play mind games with the opposition, trying to predict each other’s moves – it was so tense!
In PvE you had the farming builds and speed runs, that were very difficult to run in some places, and left very little margin for error. Press a skill at the wrong time and the run is ruined or stalled dramatically.
GW2 feels like such a no skiller kind of game. I never feel penalised for pressing my skills, specially my weapon skills that have low cooldown. For example as a mesmer I often press chaos shield, even when I am not being hit. It gives me nothing, but there is no reason not to press it either as there is no mana cost, I have to wait ages to swap my weapon back to greatsword anyway.
There is so much margin for error in this game, no one has specific roles and the enemies are designed to accomodate that. It means we are just rolling around, kiting, spamming w/e is off cooldown until the hp bar goes down.
(Disclaimer: Ofcourse there are some roles, ie a guardian plays different to an ele, but not as much as Guild Wars 1)
One of the biggest things I miss is that MASSIVE DAMAGE when playing an AoE character, like an ele. GW2 has fewer enemies with large healthbars, there are rarely any hordes that you need to tie up in a tight area then nuke the hell out of, and that really is upsetting for a mage player
I am the kinda guy that woulda just liked GW1 combat with updated graphics and ability to jump/roll lol. Oh well!
Yes. I was looking forward to Guild Wars 1 with better graphics, revamped skill system and a non-instanced world. Instead I got WoW with no raids and the ability to dodge.

best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base.”
Don’t miss Guild Wars 1, because I still play it once every week or so. It’s still a good game and I still have one or two things left to do in it.
There are a few things that I miss about Guild Wars.
- The skill variety.. We could really benefit from more weapon options. Weather it comes in the format of new weapons or upgrades to current weapons which give you more options on the skills currently slotted.
- Risk: There really isn’t much risk in GW2. If you die not a huge deal, except that you might have to spend some money on repairs. The underworld in Guild Wars is an example of what I mean by risk. If your team wasn’t prepared you could all die and the run was over. You had to start all over again. But when you finally beat it man what a feeling.
- Skill capping
- Being able to move my ui around.
- Free attribute point changes.
- Bigger variety of emotes
- Alliance functionality
- Guild Message’s of the day that were actually shown in chat.
- weapon & armor mods. There was something about the way they were done in Guild Wars made my weapons and Armor feel more personal.
- Holiday drops. It was always fun getting tot bags off mobs &, other consumables during the various events.
- Summoning Stones, the mysterious summoning stones were particularly fun because you never knew what you were getting.
- Perfect Salvage Kits. Why is there no way to get my runes/sigils etc off my without breaking my Armor?
wow I didn’t realize my list was so big… lol. I But yeah these are the things I miss.
GW1 just prior to the release of factions when the game was perfectly balanced was the most fulfilling gaming experience there has been. It was just fantastic. Huge playing numbers, GvG was elite, Tombs was elite, and the community was great. This game was up against WoW at its peak. WoW had the children, GW1 had the gamers. kittening great times.
Oh, and I miss guild capes – a lot
I do not miss GW1 not even a bit.
i miss the GW build variety, and the limited stats equiment.
It doesn’t suck your life away and force you onto a grinding treadmill"
LOL
I do not miss GW1, because I can log in and play it whenever I feel like it.
I still play it when I want so I don’t miss it.
I’m very disappointed with GW2 though. Why in the world did they take the best class system in the genre and turn it into the worst?
I miss GW1 very much. However, I do believe ANET should consider re-releasing an offline version if they do not maintain the servers, as there’s just so much content that would be a shame simply to see gone to waste.

You missed the point. I didn’t uninstall it because of these issues. I just pointed them out to illustrate how the game feels like a step backwards. Honestly the game just seemed kind of dull, going back to standing in one spot while attacking and not being able to move around or dodge.
It was good in its day, but its day is over. At least for me.
