I want to spend $5 on gems. NO MORE. For something specific I want to buy. I will NOT pay $10. You need to add an $5 option asap. Until then I need an alternate way to buy $5 worth of gems. Can I contact customer support? If you want my money you’ll help me out. But I can always spend my $5 elsewhere. Because I’m not going to be pressured to pay for $10 worth of gems when I only need something for $5 worth of gems.

It probably has to do with fees, such as credit card fees. Credit cards charge companies a fee whenever companies take a charge from a customer. If the charge is small enough then the fees charged wipes out the profit. It’s not too unusual for this reason for companies to have a lower limit on purchases through cards in order to make enough to pay the fees and still make a profit.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

I think another problem is adding the option of the $5 to other currencies too, across the board.

You could try petitioning Digital River.

Good luck.

Transactions fees become an issue the lower you go since they charge a flat fee and take a percentage, then there’s also DigitalRiver’s cut. That should only be an issue when going below $1 however.

They’ve likely determined that it’s more profitable this way. You may refuse to spend more than $5, but imagine how many simply spend $10. More people would likely buy gems if they were only $1 to $5, but in the end, it ends up being less.

Fwiw, you could spend (as of yesterday’s rate, anyway) about 112 gold to get those 400 gems.

I have to pay €10 if I want to purchase gems - today, that’s more than 10USD (it’s a bit more than 11USD at the time of writing).

In other free-to-play unnamed games, I can pop €5. I prefer it. It doesn’t mean I won’t pop more, but I’d love to be able to pay €5 for those things that come in less than, say, 400 gems, e.g. transmute crystals, XP boosts. The fact that I can’t pay a smaller amount means sometimes GW2 actually loses out (and I grind the gold instead, if I think I can justify the gold price on the item - sometimes I can, sometimes I can’t).

I think a lot may be to do with the fact GW2 doesn’t offer any form of subscription - no "preferred player" or straight-up subscriber extra bobbins other than if you own the expansion. Taking that into account does change how much those gems can be charged for - in a way it’s less of an overt cash grab than other games I could mention. And yes, the fact we can use in-game gold does make a difference, whether I can personally justify the cost or not.

I’ll take this moment to clarify I’m not asking for a sub on GW2. One of the greatest things about this game is there’s no subscription.

Still, the fact remains they may get even more out of me if I could pick up some gems for €5 on occasion. Not sure if this can be fully reconciled.

Hehe I don’t think Anet will loose so much money on you only wan’t to buy for 5$ from them. I have many times wanted stuff for 700gems but instead of buying 800gems I have bought 1600gems to buy something more while I am at it. So it may be my fault that you can’t choose kitten option.

How many of those other free games let you buy stuff with in game gold? Depending on who processes your payments and how much they charge, and the deal they struck, $5 could be not very profitable at all for the company.

Lol, make a thread be cause of 5$. That’s less than a tip for a dinner… some ppl really need to get a grip. You can use it later anyway (and you will).

Are you only ever going to buy one thing from the gem store?

If not then why not buy $10 worth of gems and save the rest for the next time you would spend $5?

If it’s because you can’t afford that much at once save the first $5 until you have another 5 and then buy gems.

Yep, that’s exactly the point. You can’t very well have gems for €5 (or $5, for that matter) when we get that in-game gold option, plus no sub. It doesn’t matter how much I may want the option for a little bit of ease on my out-of-game purse, it’s not really something that’s going to fly (which is why this particular want cannot be reconciled - except perhaps into defeat! ).

Suck it up, pay the $10. Save the other gems when you want to buy something else or convert to gold.
