Do you prefer brandy or water?
Maybe I’m tired but this analogy makes zero sense to me.
PS: WoW sucks.
What?
Nothing new? Ah, you are one of these Dungeon runners then I guess.
Just becouse there are no new content for you does not mean that there is nothing new.
Have fun in the ever expanding cartoon game WoW! KatchAo!
hehe
Edit:

I think OP is alluding to the idea that when bottled correctly alcohol lasts longer than bottled water, and then goes on to say that WoW is the booze and GW2 is water.
So what I think they’re saying is GW2 is good for you whereas WoW is addictive and causes liver damage?

Water is necessary for life whereas brandy in excess will kill you.
Water and soap will make you clean and nice smelling whereas brandy and soap just do not mix and you smell like a wino.
You can start a fire with brandy but you cannot start one with water.
Too much water will cause you to wet the bed but you wake up in the morning refreshed, too much brandy you not only wet the bed, you puke all over it and wake up in one hell of a mess with one hell of a headache.
So given all that I will take the water please!
So what I think they’re saying is GW2 is good for you whereas WoW is addictive and causes liver damage?
lol
Best post I’ve read tonight.
Yeah, sorry to say but I’m with the others on this. You’re analogy is a bit biased, because if you’ve already decided that GW2 is ‘water’ and WoW is ‘brandy’ there’s no way your analogy can work any other way.
So in essence, there was no actual point to your analogy, all you’re asking is ‘What do you think it water and what do you think is brandy? I think WoW is brandy’
Personally, I like to think of Guild Wars 2 as a fine wine. It’s getting better with age.
I don’t think WoW got big until the South Park episode. They just got lucky. They aren’t top shelf booze. They’re just mid-range booze trying to impress you with a velvet bag wrapped around it. (What most of the armor I’ve seen in WoW looks like, coincidentally)
Meanwhile I’ll keep it real with a bottle of Jim Beam. Simple label, nice price, classic flavor.
Guild Wars 2 has a great price and it’s a lot of bang for your buck. And like Jim Beam, they care about the quality without acting too arrogant.
BTW Jim Beam.
i prefer water seriously.
more healthy
cheaper
tasty
if somebody like brandy, help yourself, just don’t ever try to make GW2 more like WoW. Please!
Pour water into brandy it makes the brandy easier to take. Add brandy to water and you ruin the water.
2 years ago when I first tried GW2 I was amazed: Graphics, characters, shiny armor, beautiful spells, dungeons etc. etc. but since then nothing changed, I mean many tiny things changed in terms of polishness of the game but nothing new has been added to it and now I still play WoW. And if you think that wow was buggy and chaotic in the beginning, I think that 1.12.1 was the best WoW.
You know why I still play WoW?
Because if you put out a bottle of water for 1 year it will get contaminated or simply no one will ever drink it. But why do you think no one refuses to a 10 year old bottle of Brandy?Think about it.
I think you got a little mixed up in your metaphor, although amusingly it actually works.
You’re saying GW2 hasn’t really changed in 2 years and WoW has, then go on to compare GW2 to a bottle of water which ‘gets contaminated’ within a year or two and WoW to a bottle of brandy which simply ages.
But the content and flavour of the water will have changed much more in those 2 years than the brandy does in 10 years. The problem is that you don’t like those changes. And now we’re back to your metaphor fitting the chosen games.
But in general it’s a ridiculous argument and I could pick holes in it all day long, but I’ll leave that up to other people.
I’ll simply say that if I went to a party and the only options were water or brandy I’d take the water. I’d prefer rum and some good mixers, but I also like water. Brandy is only good for pouring over Christmas pudding and setting alight.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
You know you’ve been reading GW2 forum too much when…
…you can tell it’s Friday by looking at the thread titles in the general subforum.
Pour water into brandy it makes the brandy easier to take. Add brandy to water and you ruin the water.
Or freeze the water into ice and you’ve got brandy on the rocks!
In the spirit of the OPs metaphor, I’ll say that water is definitely healthier for you in the long run, and you can avoid your water going bad by regularly changing it out for fresh water.
How do you keep your metaphorical water fresh?
LIVING STORY, BABY! [/metaphorupheld]
In fact, bottled brandy won’t get any better over the years. If you are lucky it will just stay at the same quality. Same with water.
On the other hand, if I compare the amount of water I consume compared to brandy, the only logical answer is, that I prefer water.
What a weird comparsion is this anyway. Comparing a thing that is most important to your existence to a thing that makes you addicted? While I understand, that WoW can be as much as a drug as brandy, GW2 is not my base of existance.
This makes all no sense…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
This makes all no sense…
And that’s why I fully support this thread.
This thread is just the kind of stuff we need more of on these forums. Fun nonsense!
The problem is some of us don’t like brandy and never will. It doesn’t matter if the brandy is a year old or ten years old or fifty. If you don’t like brandy, you don’t like brandy.
I suppose the same could be said for water.
I don’t like WoW. I never liked WoW. Before Guild Wars 2 was annouced, I didn’t like WoW. I used to play WoW (back in the day) and I stopped playing it to play Guild Wars 1, because I felt Guild Wars 1 was a better game.
I thought WoW was a bit more like sewerage than brandy. I’m not sure I’d want to try aged sewerage.
Quite possibly the worst analogy I’ve ever seen.
Brandy however is really good if you are stuffed up with a head cold (although I prefer cognac). Heat the brandy (or cognac) in a shot glass in the microwave and toss it back while it is hot. it will clear your head in a snap and help you sleep like a baby.
Personally, I don’t like Guild Wars 2 being compared to World of Warcraft.
Apples and oranges.
Sure both are fruit….. but they are also very different.
Of course nobody can tell you you are wrong for preferring one over the other….
…but we can tell you are wrong for trying to compare them.
Guild Wars 2 is a good game in many aspects….. but I agree it is lacking substance.
It is hard to keep me entertained with these small bi-weekly content packets.
We need an expansion, and soon.
I can’t be the only person who logs in and thinks ….what is there to do and come to the same exact list every single day…
Dungeons?
Fractals?
PvP?
WvW?
Should I make toon number 12?
Should I work for another legendary?
I’m sort-of bored of doing the same dungeons that have been in the game since launch every day for over two years, and FotM is just a glorified dungeon.
PvP is now boring, since I had nothing else to do in the game for so long, hit r80, and now I’m bored of it as well.
WvW on my server is completely dead.
I’m putting off making toon number 12 because I never play toon 11 (my second mesmer…. though my second warrior and second guardian do get some use)
I have already made all the “cool” legendaries…. and everything else is rainbows and/or glitter….
Sure on patch days (every 2 weeks) we are given another bite of the Living Story sandwich….. but I’m starving….. and I want sustenance.
An expansion for Guild Wars 2 would be just what the doctor ordered.
Please don’t be Water GW2
Good thing I vastly prefer water to brandy .
Funny how you all can not understand the point.
My point was IF you can compare brandy to water than you can do same with Wow and Gw2. (What all of you did btw)
Anytime I see such comparisons GW2 ppl attack OP by saying you can’t compare 2 different things…
With same success you can compare apple and orange.
Compare, Choose, enjoy.
The reason I switched back to WoW is that GW2 offers same things as 2 years ago.
No new classes,Weapons, spells (useless healing spells excluded), Dungeons, Bosses, It only offers timeless grind for some sparkly shiny skin which gives you 0 bonus and power over others.
Anyway I always say that you get what you pay for.
Thats why I compared water to GW2 because its nothing more. American Beer for German.
I prefer WoW because of:
Costumer Service
Dungeons
Raids
Battlegrounds
Polishness
Don’t tell me that any mmo’s Lore is better than wow’s.
OK quest system sucks compared to GW2 but no one cares about quest system once you hit lvl cap in gw2.
Overall its big and legendary.
GW2
Grind Grind Grind Grind and what you get is a Skin. C’mon its ridiculous. Gem store is robbing you and you are happy with that. In the beginning it was something more than that.
AND Please don’t think that I’m a Gw2 hater or smth. I just want this game to be more and Devs should give it more love. I know its NCsoft’s fault that they can’t do anything more and supply us with cool updates because the only thing NCsoft cares about is Gem store. Thats why Blizzard is better and stronger company compared to any other mmo companies. They are investing millions of dollars to keep their player base happy and make them play their product. WIN WIN is not it?
AND2. btw this post is not about WoW, Brandy or water. It is about GW2 becoming poor/cheap game which NEEDS to offer its player base new content. Thousands of New MMOs are coming up and with this attitude Gw2 won’t make a stand and fall.
AND3. IF you are going to say that Blizzard is a huge company and Anet is not and thats why bla bla bla . Take a look at small MMO called Warframe and see how their Devs are working to keep up the good work. Each week they fill up the content with new things and come up with big or little ideas. New weapons missions etc etc … There is new Class/profession every 90 days aprox. So don’t tell me please that someone needs 2+ years to come up with new dungeon and implement it in game.
To all you saying WoW sucks, maybe it does for you, who am i to judge about tastes but for me it constantly offers something new that keeps millions of players. FUN and entertainment. One man’s garbage is another man’s treasure you know.

Of course you can compare them. That’s what people do when choosing games. What you probably shouldn’t really do is compare them in a company’s official forums. Because if you’re a WoW fan and you’re upselling WoW here, it would be like coming into my store in real life and shouting at customers that another store is better.
Whether you like it better or not is completely besides the point. It’s just uncouth.
WoW is fried chicken with waffle fries
GW2 is chezburger with steak cut fries
chicken or beef?
deep fried vs grillled?
the decisions!!!!!!!!
It’s more like Wow’s 10 year old moldy bread vs. GW2’s fresh loaf
PS. WoW sucks!

Incorrect. Just wanted to point out that every item here is purely cosmetic.

That’s kinda the point? If it’s not cosmetic then it will be a stat increase ergo Gear Treadmill. That’s not really what this game is based around. Now if we’re talking more skills etc. then yeah no issue here campaign your little heart out. Otherwise my statement above still stands.

Brandy or water? I bet I know which one the original poster prefers.
All this talk about drinking is making me thirsty. I think I’ll make some coffee.
Neither. I like Canada Dry Ginger Ale!
Same discussion same answer:
WvW has not seen significant changes.
Spvp besides finally getting the foundation ready should see some significant changes (soon)
Pve got the best of it at the moment, but since they have their program set now and are getting more efficient in production. The wind of focus will probably change.
At least that is what i assume a lot of people are thinking.
