I know that they’re going to add name changes (in a long long time) and soon they’ll add the cosmetic changes pack. Also that they won’t release anything allowing you to change races due to personal story. But do you think that they would add class change? It doesn’t change your personal story, only your armor, like they could limit it so you can only change to another class of the same armor profession. Because I’m getting really tired of my warrior, but I don’t want to start a new char so I can play gaurdian because I just got 100% map completion and have already started my cultural tier 3 armor. Also, gaurdian is very fitting for asura compared to warriors. Thoughts?

I dont think so. The whole idea is to get you to re-roll a new character, so if you are tired of your warrior and want a guardian then you will have to roll it. I understand about 100% etc but I really dont see this becomming an option.

Anet has this microtransaction thing all wrong. They don’t know how to price things. They could implement this and charge like a high amount of gems. They would’ve made a killing if they made the keys the right price.

Class change would have a huge impact if they implemented that. A negative on that is.

Imagine how many people would just level a warrior or guardian so they could switch to Elementalist or Necromancer at level 80? Not to mention the different gear and associated skills which you would have to learn minus your gameplay experience. It would also have implications in PVP and may lead to FotM-chaining of the worst kind.

Also you can level up pretty quick if you got the cash already: Namely through crafting.

Also I think it goes against their philosophy to offer services like that. You don’t probably know that but many people are waiting for an opportunity to make use of the term ‘pay to win’. With the different racial skills in mind I can’t even see them offering a race change. It’s also a slippery slope. If you walk down that dark path it is very tempting for players to ask for more and for the company to offer more. If they suddenly said no they would meet a lot questions of the kind “But you offered this and that. It’s not much different! Why stop now?”

That’s why I said you can only change ur class to another one with the same armor. So no you couldn’t go from a heavy armored warrior to light armor ele. I think you’re reading too much into it..

Profession changes will probably never come and rightly so.

1. Character level is meaningless in a lot of GW2s content. So I really can’t imagine there being a huge demand for a paid profession change.

2. Re-rolling is a huge part of MMO content. ANet would be undermining much of their game if they allowed people to instantly switch professions.

So was holy trinity but they didn’t have trouble undermining that

I see race changes coming before class changes. If you want to play another class, just make a new toon =P While possible, it would be tricky with skill points/traits (just reset?). Races really only impact story until level 30 though, besides minor race arc later. Maybe they will let you change races once you completed whole story? So they could offer profession changes, I just don’t see why anyone would want to pay to change their level 80 to a completely different profession. You learn a profession by leveling it, if you jumped right to level 80 in a profession you may regret it after seeing how it plays at 80. And profession changes would have no effect in sPvP, since you could just buy a new slot, make a new character, and go to mists…

My Ranger hopes so.

It would also have implications in PVP and may lead to FotM-chaining of the worst kind.

It takes like 5 mins at most to make a new PvP character, no PvP player would use it.

@Flyfunner:

I just liked to think ahead because the idea is based on giving something more than what is not given yet and traditionally in online games all formerly strict concepts are becoming diluted by giving in more and more. I am also ignoring the technical side for a moment here because I don’t think it can be easy but that’s not for me to say as I don’t know their data infrastructure. You criticized them for not pricing things right. Be careful what you are asking for though because they might end up at a price which would be equal to buying the game again in order to discourage frequent use.
I also do not think the comparison with the holy trinity is working. Holy trinity is a meta-concept which serves as functional design for traditional MMORPGs whereas class changing would be strictly a service. Just because they broke a doctrine once does not mean they have become perpetual doctrine-breakers and are in for more.

I also do not believe there is much need or demand for this. Levelling is very fast compared to what I have experienced elsewhere. But I am sure you know this so it would be more of a thing to retain your current gear which depending on its level may or may not be hard to get in time. But I am having a feeling that gear-based arguments are not going to be very convincing.

@Levetty:
I was obviously talking WvWvW, sorry. Yes, it doesn’t affect sPVP but people tend to switch en masse to what is considered to be cool. I remember in a particular game they introduced faction change. Over night my faction’s capitals became ghost towns while I saw many great numbers of former comrades in all the same races and gender hopping around just in red color. I was happy they did not introduce class change as well. There would not have been much variation at all. Especially if people are disgruntled they tend to reroll to the FotM class. So far this was always a more acceptable thing because they accepted giving up their old toon in order to enjoy the gameplay of a new one but to do so they had to spend time and efforts first. If you’re removing both from the formula then unless it is overpriced they will just shelf out that money and take a shortcut. Thus for me it’s more a matter of obsta principiis.

I hope to see some warrior buffs and major bug fixes, culling issue resolved so thieves stop exploiting it to permastealth or temporary nerf to their stealth mechanics till culling in W v W is resolved.

Mesmer stealth in W v W same issue with culling still not as bad as thieves but still annoying though !

Other classes, don’t really care I mainly play warrior and almost all classes are balanced.

I really think the answer is re-rolling, not purchasing a potion of profession change.

They’re big on replayability. I think they’d rather sell a cheapo extra character slot to keep consistent with the message.
