Just take a moment and recall how quick the Silverwaste “PvP bug” got fixed.
WvW could be like this, essentially, but the idea as you describe it is likely not going to happen in the pve world of Tyria.
Well they are revamping Shatterer so they could revive one of the most epic event GW2 has had – the Shatterer flyby invasion of Ashford. It was fun PvP in a PvE zone. Broken, but fun. Preferably without Rytlock instakilling corrupted players.
Anet has been a strong advocate of having no competition in PvE (i.e. no competition of mob tagging, no competition over resource nodes, no open world pvp and so on) so that’s a pretty definitive no. WvW was meant to fill the ‘open world PvP’ itch.
No. Not only does it go against the game’s philosophy of non competitive PvE but with Megaservers making all PvE servers the same, it would have to be a separate set of servers that players only visit, like WvW. So, it would require not only a complete revamp of their non competitive PvE but a whole new game type along with PvE, WvW and PvP. That would be a lot of work and there’s no indication that there’s enough demand for it. Even WvW has struggled with population problems all this time.
We already have 2. Those are called EotM and Desert Borderlands.

Your suggestion to me sounds very much like WvW. It seems as though the desert borderlands seem to have a more environmental aspect to it than the alpine borderlands.
Any PvP aspect is unlikely to be added into the PvE side of the game, but perhaps we’ll see new WvW maps that have a strong environmental meta that must be worked towards as the enemy does the same/opposite meta. In fact, I believe there was a datamined WvW map from some old .dat that WoodenPotatoes did a Tyria 3D video of. It got scrapped some time ago, but maybe we’ll see a future version of it.

Yes they can definitely be a WvWvW map or tied in to it somehow but the thing is WvW is like made for organised groups and sieging, its also requires alot of involvement. What I would like to see is something structured as a PVE map you have a big meta resolving itself in a couple of hours of play and then your done log out play some other map what ever you want. So something thats a bit more casual kind of open world PvP.
I never see them replacing PvE maps nor did I ever want them to , I do enjoy the PvE maps and I do enjoy PvP in gw2, I would love to have something in between. This would only increase the variety of maps, but i guess there is no point if there is no desire for such maps. Well I guess WvW is my hope for such content but i just dont see it as having such a focus on pvp, nor should it I guess.
One of the big complaints of the new WvW maps is that there is too much PvE in it. There just isn’t the demand in this game for PVEVP maps. The players here want either PvE or pure PvP and not many want a mix. In addition, it would pull players from WvW and PVP which already have population problems and cause more problems in those two areas.
PvPvE Reminds me of dredgion from Aion… fun times hehe
If for some crazy reason a PvP element became necessary to advance the meta in a particular PvE map, I would make sure to NEVER go to that map.

It would need to be a WvW type separation for permanent, but I remember talk of a end of beta event where Shatterer made random players Branded. I could see an event where if you went to Diessa Plateau for a week you had a chance to become branded and could fight with other branded against regular players. Not Plains of Ashford since that’s a starting zone and true newbies who chose Charr as their first character don’t need to be forced into PvP on day 1, but in a low enough zone that new players that wanted to join in on the event wouldn’t be excluded since Diessa Plateau isn’t that high of a level zone.

Hero points
Could count sentries too really but they had some marginal pvp applications when hunting enemies.
And it used to have Quaggans!

Like they have in ArcheAge, one of the most toxic player communities ever? Granted, last time I checked when you died there you didn’t lose anything, but man, talk about a griever’s paradise.
No matter how nice a player community is, the moment you start mixing hardcore PVPers with PVEers, meta falls by the wayside and people start grieving others just because they can, especially if the map is tailored toward it. It wouldn’t be “balance and twists with the events and terrain”, it would be an all out war between people who want to do the events and the people who want to kill/annoy/grief other players because that’s fun to them.
I wouldn’t be opposed to such a map only if PVEers have no reason to ever go there if they don’t want to, and that includes loot and/or materials.

I agree with what Annonrae said. I wanted to like ArcheAge, I loved the ships and the fishing the whole deal, but forcing players in to PvP in order to do certain activities or get certain mats/loot is just outright stupid.
Now, I dont mind a bit of EotM or WvW, lately I’ve after 3 years been dabbling in sPvP, I like it yes its great but I know I’m going to fight players. I am a huge PvEer always have been, and like most PvEers, being forced into a zone to do something or get certain loot/mats, isnt fun when you aren’t that great at PvP.
Don;t bring the “l0lz g3t gud n00b” either, I am alright at PvP but I do not feel the need to go around killing people because I can. Even if this zone had 0, none, zip, diddly squat reward for killing other players, people would still do it because they can kill someone. That would be the sole reason “because they can”
I wish we get this but will never happen in this game.Thats why besides GW2 i have another MMO that i play,MMO where i can PVP just the way i like it.
Please no. This is a core reason why I got sick of Aion. Every time I try to complete quests or explore the map, I have to keep looking 360 degrees for enemy players.
PvE players would never play this because they will hate PvP players ganking up on them. PvP players would only focus on PvPing and not even bother about the meta-event. PvEvP, where PvE is the dominant gameplay, does not work and is not fun at all. Only PvPvE, where PvP is the important point, is fun to play (WvW).

What I mean is like a PVE map with two different factions you can join fighting to progress the meta event, with a focus on small scale pvp here and there.
I would like to have some competitive maps that would bring a kind of open world pvp that is different form sieging and zerg vs zerg plays. I also think we can see interesting balance and twists with the events and terrain creating a type a asymmetrical balance like one faction being smaller but having terrain advantage and mechanics creating a focus on hit and run tactics and ambushes.
Do you think will ever see such maps and is there a place for such maps in gw2 ?

Considering how fast WvW is dying, you’ll never see this kind of maps in GW2. It’s a shame, because open world pvp with GW2 combat system is (was?) amazing.
Oh well, we still have points to hold in pvp.
