ANet may give it to you.
Do you understand elemental fields?
ANet may give it to you.
As an ele, I’d like to take a moment to say that not everyone stacks might BEFORE getting to the boss. You know why? That screws the initiation of our damage! If you go S/D to get the maximum out of might stacking, there are a lot of heavy-damage close range burst skills, which if popped early will be such a waste! The combo is usually finished with an AoE knockdown+Churning Earth for a great amount of damage. So, if you’ve been wondering, there is a reason to stack might onto the boss.
Not that I like it, I hope HoT redefines gameplay effectively wiping zerker meta (i.e. full zerker party).
‘Do you understand elemental fields?’
Nope.
But this is going to help me a LOT, I think
SMOKE: (enigineer/thief)
smoke+ blast = invis
smoke+ projectile = blind?? (not sure)WATER: (engineer, elementalist,ranger)
water + blast = aoe heal
water + projectile = healing boltFIRE (warrior, guardian, elementalist, ranger, engineer)
fire + blast = might
fire+ prjectile = burning projectile
fire+ leap = fire auraLIGHTNING (Elementalist, ?)
lightning + blast = swiftnessDARK (Necro, Thief)
dark fields + blast = weaknessLIGHT (Necro, Guardian)
light fields + blast = retaliation
light+ projectile = condi cleansing
light+ leap = retaliationCHAOS (Mesmer)
chaos+ blast = AoE chaos armor
chaos+ leap = chaos armor (tend to be usefull on condi warriors)
chaos + projectile = confusionWhich are the main ones I know…
I really hate the light one though with blast, as it is used often Guard Staff #3 in combination with static fields (ligthning)… and you want the statics to be blasted for swiftness.
Oh and I know about whirls but I tend to ignore them….
Please add whirls
And please please add this to the /wiki
And please please PLEASE get a job with Anet redesigning the NPE
You mean like the table on this page http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Combo that been there for ages :P
Careful guys. Too much talk like this, and they might remove combo fields altogether, because “too confusing to players”.
Simpler then adding tutorials.
I was idly browsing the web for any hints on how to make my PvP bomber engineer slightly more viable.
What I was not expecting to find was that engineers have a combo which provides a long duration “Invisible” buff to the engineer and nearby allies.
Apparently dropping the large explosive utility belt thing (which you get from the bomb kit), dropping a smoke bomb and then activating your shield skill 4 in the smoke area gives you two doses of “invisible”.
This happens because you land up activating two blast finishers inside a smoke field. Or at least, I assume that is what happens.
Which left me wondering. Do you know about the different elemental fields and how they work? Should some sort of tutorial be added to explain them in game or is there already sufficient explanation which I have missed?
Since you’re an Engi this might be helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6WOrSAivlg , you can substitute Smoke Field in and do similar rotations, note that you can swap utilities if you’re quick for more blasts.
Great resource for the more dungeon focused combo fields but also just in general.

I actually searched on the wiki before for info but I didn’t find that page, maybe I wasn’t using the right search term. Anyway thanks for posting it, it’s a brilliant page of info! I’m now trying to dredge up my old college revision techniques so I can just learn the whole page off by heart

If you use churning earth, your damage is lower than a necromancer’s minion.

hmm wonder what term you used to search then? “Combo” Combo Field" “Combo Finisher” all 3 takes you directly to that page :P
My wish. They had NPCs of each profession who are able to put down their particular fields that can be interacted with. When you talk to them, they put down the fields, perhaps calling them out, and you use your skills on top of them to see what happens. Perhaps there can be fast respawning, yellow mobs wandering around to be affected by the offensive skills, or practice dummies if trolling is a problem.
Surely that wouldn’t be so hard to put in the game and a good way to learn combos and their effects.
What we really need is Isle of the Nameless rebuilt for GW2 to cover the different aspects of GW2. Heart of the Mist is lacking in many ways.

I can’t remember, it was about 3 years ago, and I don’t understand why you’re being snarky. Sorry if I’ve offended you by saying thank-you. I won’t bother in future.

wow, sorry if it came across like that, it was certainly NOT my intention. Mainly wanted to give a five hints to what words could be used to search for it, to make it easier for you (and anyone else that need it) to look it up faster in the future

There is also “cross profession combo”.
I think that was mostly used by the devs.
