I mostly play PvE and have always felt like I HAD to have some kind of permaswiftness on all of my characters. Whether it was a 25% movement signet, or the Engineer’s 33% permaswiftness on swap.

When I don’t have it, I feel like I’m moving at a snail’s pace and get frustrated.

How about everyone else? Sometimes I wonder if I’m wasting skill space.

When it comes to map completion, I did it slowly on my first character so I could take in the huge, immense and beautiful world of Tyria – I didn’t want to rush it. A few characters later, I started doing Map Completion with a lot of swiftness, especially warhorn type swiftness, as I’ve seen it all before.

However, I’ve now stopped using swiftness again with my current character that I’m doing map completion with. I’m using Warrior this time, with Longbow & Twin Swords. Having much more fun doing map completion slower again than I did when I tried to rush it.

My first character has it via a signet. However, I just made a new character 3 days ago, and she doesn’t have it. I’m actually enjoying it a bit more to the point where I’m actually walking to different locations instead of constantly running. Seems more pleasant that way (That may change when I get her into higher level zones).

I love swiftness to move around. I hate feeling sluggish, and like acrobatic characters. Asura engie with perma-swiftness is perfect for me. My norn guardian, on the other hand, feels insufferably slow for me. The “real” movement is not that important as the “feeling” of velocity, however: Asura looks faster just because of their animations. Swiftness is there so I actually can chase of run from other players while looking fast.

I must add that I don’t tend to skip too much content, I simply like the wind in the ears.

This is exactly my feeling about it. On my humans, sylvaris and asuras I can live without it. But because of the slow, jogging animations on the norn I need to have a speed buff of some kind to feel like I’m not just going for a casual jaunt through the fields. So I have numerous characters with secondary armour sets using runes of speed for map completion.

I prefer traits or skills that grant passive swiftness, however if the class does not have it and I’m rushing somewhere I’ll use a swiftness skill.

I just wish it would help in combat a little bit, like an increased dodge chance or something, but hey…its still ok.

Only time I use swiftness is if a skill offers it along with might, fury or what ever.

Do I use swiftness? Yes

All the time? No

Do I feel base movement speed should be increased? No

Do I feel like I’m crawling when I don’t have the passive boosts equipped? No

Do we have a term for this issue? Yes → Sprint Spoiled

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I agree! This is why I only play with professions that have signet or traited 25% speed. The problem with Swiftness on weapon skills is that I might not like the weapon and then I refuse to use it… I also hate the 25% speed runes we have because they have stats I don’t want… My biggest dream in GW2 is to get a new “speed mastery” (in the new mastery system) so everyone could have 25% speed without wasting a skill / trait slot!

I feel like it’s fairly necessary in WvW, just for getting around (and helping other people get around), even though it takes the place of other skills that would be more generally helpful in PVP.

When you’re making these choices, it’s not like-for-like and that is the problem.

I can’t live without it, I use it all the time.
I use all of the movement skills of all classes I play all the time, from towns thru open maps to instanced content.
For low levels, I start with minor sigil of speed (no level limit) with food that gives few seconds of swiftness on kill.
Untill 80 I go with these sigils and food, and any other active or passive source of movement speed increase I can get.
At 80 I use swiftness on kill food in open world and everything else in instances.

If I wanna stop by somewhere, I will stop and sit there for hours with good company.

Yes I use it and I don’t like to have my time wasted by crawling across the map to get things done.

Pve wise I’ve found not having a speed boost to be more of an annoyance than anything else.

WvW is a different story however. When my characters didn’t have a boost I would fall behind and sometimes my character was killed because of it. In WvW its a must IMO.

I have 25% run on all my characters. If they don’t have access to permanent utility skills that provide 25% run (like my Mesmer), I have to buy them traveller or speed runes (depends on what stats I want for the character).

It shouldn’t be like this, but as much as I’ve tried kicking and screaming to Anet about it, still nothing gets done about it. Sure, the Chronomancer will FINALLY give Mesmer a 25% movement trait, but tying something so basic like movement to a trait is annoying. Just give all professions access to a 25% passive run signet and be done with it.

Swiftness increases your in combat move speed by 33% as well.

Buy a set of centaur runes, press mantra heal. Costs like 50s.

Sometimes I use swiftness. On my female human/norn I don’t always, because I think their jogging animation is hotter at base speed.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

I do, usually by means of a sigil of speed on a weapon unless I can trait a speed boost. It’s cheap and works for getting around maps fast.

You can also change all your old combat boosts to new thew type or acquire the new type and use for 1 hour speed boosts if doing a ton of non-waypoint moving. I’ve never bought them and still I have close to two stacks of those things in my bank.

Moving at normal speed doesn’t bother me too much unless I’m opening up maps on a new character or trying to keep up with my group.

All in all I’m quite happy with the game as it is with regard to movement speed.

lmao I died from this response. Hotness factor over utility, flawless.
Anyways, as a necro I was used to being slow as all hell. You get used to it, I would always rather take a utility that’s useful than one that primarily helps my movement.

Yeah, using it all the time. Either the buff, a trait or the sigil. I think running around on foot is boring and I wish we had mounts. Anyway since this is not gonna happen, I stick to speed buffs.
