meh, I’ve played those games, those dodges don’t work so well because mostly lag. You dodge, it looks like you moved out, you still get hit anyway even though you’re out of the red circle.
Latency limits a lot of gameplay decisions.
Such dodges also favour ranged fighting, since you would have to get out of melee range way too often.

This happens in either system. The lag can be so bad in this game that the attack can be done and over with before you even see it. But you do have a point, I guess my idea is one of making sense instead of just making it work.

the current dodge favors melee fighting. Either way one is going to favor a certain fight style. And personally I have found the mystic way of being able to be melee but still dodge out of attacks instead of into them and still maintain my damage, so I guess it boils down to a l2p problem.

No the latency affects that sort of dodge a lot worse, even with lowish ping of 80-150 I’ve seen it happen. I’ve never had that happen with gw2’s dodge.

It may be because some players think of their “dodge key” as their only dodge. I use double-tap dodge and often dodge forward right into the fight.
Oops, just realized my way does favor melee. I usually dodge forward or one side or the other. Using the dodge key and dodging backward would put more distance and favor ranged.

No, the way the dodge currently works is good. There’s no good reason to change it.

actually you don’t need double-tap for directional dodge – tapping dodge key when moving in certain direction will make you dodge in said certain direction….
does the current system favour any playstyle? well if it does for sure its not from ranged/melee scale…
as for OP suggestion – better they not :P
[PS its not even close to 5 seconds and its not perfect immunity – effects confirmed to be going through dodges are in the game for quite alot time….]
