…and GW2 has failed to realize this fact, at least at the current stage. Instanced PvP (sPvP or WvWvW) does not create competition, rivalry, or a realistic game world.

Duels, battlegrounds, arenas, and warplots are almost essential to the design of every current MMO, but they don’t have to be the end-all be-all.

It is important for the actual game world the be inhabited by more than idle NPCs and the occasional leveler past launch, and world PvP is the way to accomplish that.

Let me make a distinction: world PvP should NOT replace instanced PvP, it should increase player interaction with the world.

Let’s set one thing straight: most players don’t PvP for free. Players need a carrot on the stick because in general the stick just isn’t enough to keep people interested.

I think it would be pretty funny if the living story made events where your server would at times follow an npc party to attack a zone in another server, entering by hijacking and contesting waypoints and pouring in at various locations like Scarlet’s minions for the duration of the event.

Good idea.
Maybe, if factions were available, in the same server.

Honestly, I miss not knowing the name of my opponents. Fighting crowds without face or name is very annoying.

I take it you either don’t play PvE or you’re on a very low population server if you really think the open-world is inhabited by nothing but " idle NPCs and the occasional leveller".

There’s plenty going on already, and plenty of people doing it. In fact we often have threads here complaining that people can’t get into popular maps because there’s too many people there and they get pushed to the overflow.

We don’t need endless “Any1 duel?” “1v1 plz” spam in chat and random fights breaking out everywhere on top of that.

Nope, not interested…for all the reasons that have been in the countless threads before.

I’ll answer the OP with some questions of my own.

Why is competition so important?
Do you really need to thump your chest and be better than someone else at digital combat to feel good about yourself?

I believe in freedom of choice, so that you can turn on or off the PvP mode. People can decide about it. It is open to discussion:

Never. I just want to have fun. A better GW2 like everybody else wants:
