Reading the class forums, it gives the impression that every single class is the worst, most worthless class in the entire game. well, except Warriors and Guardians I guess.

How can so many classes all be the worst at the same time?

If Warriors and Guardians are the best, everything else can very easily be the worst. o_0

At least in PvE. PvP has a bit more resemblance of class balance, I think.

I love all my classes. Started with thief. It’s great. Next tried Mesmer. It’s awesome. Now I’m trying Engineer. It’s wonderful.
I don’t know why some people dislike playing these classes, and I don’t really want to examine why they might. I’ll just leave it as: I enjoy it.

I like my Warrior/Guardian/Elementalist/Engineer. I use each for different purposes/roles. I don’t have much problems with the others either but it’s more of a playstyle issue. The only complaint I can think of is that my thief is a bit too squishy versus conditions but I haven’t looked all that closely at my options.

Only the very vocal minority ever post on forums to begin with.

Then you take into consideration the primary reason to post anything on the forums is to complain and you can get a picture of why the bulk of the forums are so negative.

To alleviate this problem, ANet could spend some time catering to the issues players present, but they’re mostly silent on anywhere but the sPvP and WvW forums. If a class forum gets a response to anything, it’s very rarely more than ‘we understand and we will take it under advisement’.

No class is horrible, some are just better at certain things. Its a game where I’ll dare say most if not all classes are enjoyable to play. I have been maining warrior since back when they were the pvp laughing stock to now where they are very formidable opponents in pvp and have earned a spot in the meta, and I shall continue to play regardless of how bad they are nerfed or buffed etc…

Because I find it fun, just play what you enjoy, its what most people outside the forums do.

I played so far all classes, and all them are pretty well designed. My favorites so far are Warrior, Ranger, Guardian, Mesmer, and Engi. Rangers are really not that bad in PVE from what I have used my ranger for. Teq on the other my ranger is not good there but my warrior is.

The one class i dislike is Ele something about them i just dont like even tho i got one at lvl80 with full exotics i cant bare to play him (i gave him a good run to ensure i didnt like him).

I have all 8 classes and I like 5 of them…

Guardian
Warrior
Thief
Mesmer
Engineer

I dislike to hate 3

Necro – 1st character I rolled, by level 10, hated it. Still took it to level 80 but even in the current meta which favours them, just don’t like the class. Its just not a Necromancer to me, don’t like Anets take on the Necro…

Elementalist – As a class I really, really like it. But its been weakened in the last few months, well other classes have been boosted, so has become increasingly more unfun to play. Anet’s attitude that a Ele is the jack of all trades does not help the class at all. Also, being forced to take Arcana/Water is rubbish and Fire is a complete joke of a trait line. Elementalists take a lot of work to play but get no advantage whatsoever to reward the work you do, even through other classes benefit greatly from the fields they can create.

Ranger – This is the class, I hate. The traits, all 5 trait lines, are TOTALLY messed up. Seriously, it looks as if someone rolled dice to determine were to put a trait. Pet mechanic is a negative and always has been. Constantly nerfed when players create a half decent build in PvP. Terrible dps. Other classes ranged weapons are far better than Rangers. A lot of Rangers utility skills are totally and utterly useless. There is no hope for this class, Anet should just delete it from the game and forget about it…

I love warriors, rangers, engineers and necros. But I do have a feeling that I am being “forced” to play a certain profession, like my warrior, she is lvl 40+ fractals and has full ascended gear that’s available. If every profession was treated the same I would be maining necro or engineer.

PvP and PvE situation for all professions are very different. It is impossible to balance both and make both sections of the community happy. It won’t work, it just won’t.

I have 4 level 80’s so far… and love each of them.

Sylvari Guardian: My main, really like it so far. Build is hybrid DPS/support.
Norn Mesmer: Build as condition damage.
Asura Warrior: Zerker, I just love the little guy swinging the huge sword..
Charr engineer: This one wasn’t love at first sight. I was going to delete the char (didn’t mainly because I wanted one char on each armor profession, and engineer was the one that seemed the best for me out of the medium armor ones), but then decided to give it a more serious go, used the level to 20 scroll on it, leveled a bit during the invasions, and now I really like it. I’m using a flamethrower build on it.

Now I’m debating what profession to start next. I have a human necro that’s mostly just a bank char, and an empty character slot that was an impulse purchase when they were in a sale (I’ve converted gold to gems several times now so I have some extra gems around), so I’m torn between that one, or an elementalist.

I’m not particularly attracted to thief and ranger, but mostly because of experiences with other MMOs, never been much for pet or rogue style classes, but I may try them in the future.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

Charr thief was my first class to 80, and I love it. Then I leveled my asura mesmer, and had a blast, but I haven’t geared or really played that character much. My human engineer is my main for dungeons, though I’m considering swapping to my thief for sheer utility. Sylvari guardian is my latest level 80. That leaves me with warrior, necro, and elementalist. I’m having a lot of trouble enjoying the elementalist- may need to reexamine the weapon options- but so far the ele is hovering around 50, and the warrior is climbing at 35. Didn’t have room for a necro until this latest sale on character slots, but I’m really enjoying it.

EDIT: All that being said, I agree that there are significant flaws with several of the classes, including the engineers’ reliance on kits.

I loved my Mesmer, until there was a heavy nerf to condition builds shortly after I had invested heavily in Rabid gear.

I loved my Ele until ANet did a whack-a-mole balance hitting healing and mobility in many ways at once, rather than in small steps.

I love the look of my Engineer. Well, except whenever he equips a kit.

I love my Guardian, but the recent “improvement” of world bosses making fighting them as melee much tougher than as range has taken a bit of the shine off.

I love my Thief! 25% speed boost signet, stealth for losing aggro, and melee/ranged options. It’s pretty good. Honestly any job with a 25% speed boost would be worth playing, I just happened to try thief first out of the jobs that have it. A bit more defense would be nice, and a longer range on shortbow’s AOE attack for tagging mobs… but in general it’s the best job for overall mobility. In a game like GW2 where 99% of the time you don’t really need a specific job to be successful because you’re with a group of people, mobility is the best thing in the world to me for overall ease of play.

I am a slow leveler. I took months to level my first 80, and only recently leveled my 2nd.

I started with Ele, because I was ele all the way in GW1. I love her… I really do…but I played her for so long that in truth, I’m bored with her. I will go back eventually.

My 2nd level 80 is my Necro… I love love love her condimancer build, and she actually has turned out kind of tanky.

I have a mid 40’s thief that I love to play, but since I am not very experienced with her, I tend to die a lot and get frustrated. I’ll get back to her and level her eventually, but I still like her.

I also have a 20 mesmer and a 20 ranger. I love mesmer, and will probably level her next. My ranger is kind of languishing because I am not sure whether I like her or just have her because I wanted to have one.

The other 3 slots are filled by a baby (just out of the starter area) guardian, a baby engi and a level 12 warrior. I’ll get to them eventually, but I haven’t played them enough to know whether I like them or not.

I’ve been a Guardian main since launch and it’s just always fit my style. Support, support, support. I love being in the Zerg on the Tequatl fight and spamming my buffs/ressing people/healing. It feels great. I still get to do some damage, I’m not 100% healing, but healing a ton and supporting a ton is what I always do.

Ranger is only the “worst” class for stuff like dungeons. It’s brilliant in the open world. And of course, a good ranger can do any dungeon in the game.
