Engineer and Elementalist in progress…
Does anyone else feel that gw2 is imbalanced?
Engineer and Elementalist in progress…
This game is extremely unbalanced at least in PvE and WWW.
When even devs admitted it what else should we say?
but people can deny anything……The devs have said the game is extremely unbalanced? Quote please.
sotg interviews ….
they said much stuff.Expecially on elementalist.
But also on warrior (warrior/guard are OK everyone other should brought to their level).
After that interview we had HUGE nerfs across profession without mode distictions.
Just to make things even worse. Was on reddit someone could still have the link
What really surprise me is that anyone doubt this game is unbalanced.
Tht is really strange considring its more than obvious.
Perhaps we have completely different definitions of what balanced means.
From a PvE perspective, I can clear any of the content I’ve tried with any profession. On some professions you can do it faster, but I’m not so sure that’s what’s talked about when people talk about balance.
People say you only need DPS in this game and nothing else. And for that type of efficiency play you’re NEVER going to get a balanced game period end of story. No game is ever going to be balanced.
To me, balance is when any profession is viable in a dungeon and they all are.
Plenty of rangers, necros and engies in my guild do dungeons and fractals and do fine. We clear content, we have fun, everyone goes home a winner.
If you’re saying that warriors do more DPS in PvE than any other profession, you’re probably right. But then Guardians bring more support to the table, mesmers bring other things to the table and with recent changes, even necros are quite powerful.
People who focus on DPS are definitely going to say that this game is imbalanced. People who don’t…not so much.
suggestion
Considering 100% of your posts (feel free to check) just defend ANYTHING of this game you end up losing lot of credibility when you go to far like this time.
All profession are viable because some can CARRY you.
Also 2 hours without EFFORT against 15 min with no room for errors is not balance.i could go on for a lot but its not the issue.
So please sometimes even if you like a lot this game just remember that if you try to hide any of its problems…it won t improve and finally fail.
No honest player can say PvE is balanced (and maybe even WWW).
Even if some try no player that just went after character creation with a warrior and another profession will believe it.
This is an absolutely lie. Probably 80% of my posts are defending the game, and 20% of my posts don’t. Of course, if you can’t get that bit of information right, why should anyone believe the rest of your information.
So if a party if five rangers beats a dungeon, who’s carrying them?
It’s so balanced my ranger keeps falling over.
How do you manage that?
I am serious- ranger is one of the most survivable classes Iv’e played.
I think the classes are pretty well balanced in PvE for what it is worth.
You can pretty much do anything with any class- it just comes down to if you can play your class or not, they all have their strengths and weaknesses.
Don’t play PvP so can’t comment on that.
IMO I don’t feel like classes are imbalanced but Condition damage is in many angles.
1. Takes alot of damage and some classes can’t cure it good enough. (leads to class imbalance)
2. Can apply more than one condition in one attack and also stack duration.
3. Can’t be applied to buildings or object making condition builds weak in some situations in PvE and WvW too I guess.
4. Some classes condition counters can render condition builds more or less useless according to condition classes.
5. Poison, burn, confuse and bleed cast from some npcs are doing to much damage and it’s hard to know what condition is killing you.
Not that I wan’t it all changed since I play condition classes myself but that’s how I see it.

I don’t have problems surviving, if that is the full spectrum of what balance means to you we will never agree on anything.
I love my rangers (one of each race at 80), but some of my characters work well and some not so well, but all can survive.
I love my rangers. Each one plays a different weapon set with a different build. Some of my other characters have builds that just don’t work as well (efficiently and enjoyably) as others and it is noticable, but it is most noticable on my rangers.
The imbalance is not just between character type, but also race, and trait build. I don’t want absolute exactitude in balance, I just want to not feel limited with certain builds to the extent that I do now.
I almost exclusively play open world PVE content. The difference is palpable.

Devs always said that the game is balanced around spvp (and tpvp in particular).
Aside any consideration about balance even there (lol AoE condispam proskillz), as long as there are not splits – and i think you can count GW2 skill splits on a single hand, whereas GW1 understood the issue and had a LOT of splits – PvE and WvW suffer.
In PvE some skills that in spvp are balanced becomes useless (for example confusion/retaliation, aside the various nerfs) or broken (HBlades, jus to name the most glaring one).
Add in a incredibly swallow and lazy encounter design that tests nothing aside DPS (CC is useless, sustainability is not tested in any shape or form cause everybody have dodges – lol invunerability on a glass cannon w/o any skill or trait) and unbalance is just obvious.
Same thing for WvW – in upcoming patches they said (a couple fo sotg ago, iirc) that AoE dmg would get nerfed cause atm in spvp it’s easy to hit everything on a cap point. Now think if AoE dmg gets butchered what happens in wvw. Yeah.
Again, GW1 undrestood it, why they don’t learn from the lessons of previous game is beyond my understanding.
Most used: Guard/Mes/War/Nec/Ele.
Yes, i use 5 chars at time. Because REASONS.

Ok but you did say that your Ranger keeps falling over- that suggested survivabilty to me.
I can’t see what else you would be referring to.
I play open world PvE exclusively too and I don’t really understand when you say the difference in build its palatable- in terms of what?
They would play differently, they are different builds.
I play all sorts, mostly what feels good to me and both my Engi and my Ranger feels very strong – with my ranger probably the stronger in terms of kill speed of the two.
The only real difference I can see is when I run my Mesmer who is full condition in carrion gear.
I expect that she kills slowly and can live for ever and if she wants to kill an object- call a friend.
Condition builds are probably the most situational and as such the least overall effective.
But I have been playing her since launch and I love her the way she is.
I agree with you that race sometimes make an amazing difference because some skills just synergize better with builds and traits.
I still think the balance is pretty good atm- I do think that we have too few skills for proper balancing at the moment and when new skills and traits are added I expect it to improve as well as provide more diversity.

Balance → equilibrium → falling down
It’s my sense of humor. Sheesh it was a fun little line to toss into the discussion. Everyone needs to lighten up a bit I think.
MMOs are never really balanced, but I wish they had kept pvp and pve skills as separate sets. It’s part of the reason why it’s more imbalanced than it should be.
Also some things like the mesmer portal and they way stealth is handled in this game (reminds me of Aion and it’s not a good memory), really cause more trouble. My guess is that they do that on purpose, but it’s just a guess (tin foil hats!).

PvE my ranger is real good at surviving if I don’t have something dropped on me before I can get away. (Knockdown ranged hits, for instance, or Risen Priest of Grenth.) Aside from Champions and above, I can handle most things thrown my way short of outnumbering me 10-to-1. And in that case, I just run and often manage to escape. (Thank you, revamped Hunter’s Shot.)
WvW? It’s roughly 50/50 live or die . . . that drops sharply if I’m actually fighting to 10/90. But that’s because I’m terrible at PvP type combat and always have been (always will be).
However? I’ve watched some rangers do some extraordinary stuff in better hands than mine.

balance=/=Can clear anything on any profession=/= viable
You could pretty much beat everything with just auto attack and dodge if you were skilled enough, but that doesn’t mean having just auto attack while others have a full bar would be balanced.
Most people see it as which profession can clear things most efficiently, or which professions will have the easiest time when you play it skillfully. Ultimately, how much is a class valued in your average pve fights and boss battles.
I try not to talk for “most people”. Seems to me most people don’t think about balance at all…and those that do aren’t necessarily agreed.
Well then, I personally judge balance by how much a class contributes to a dungeon or fractal group, be it through support or dps or whatever combination. Naturally such a thing can’t be measured precisely, but it’s you can see it if certain classes are consistently being valued over others.
And again, just because all classes can get through all content doesn’t mean they’re all viable. It’ about how well they can do it.
