Does anyone use in-game mail?
Occasionally I do.
Yes.
Yep, I use the ingame mail.
How would newbies know how common it was to receive messages from players?
I send gold and items back and forth every day between my 4 accounts…..
But between me and friends, occasionally. It’s sometimes easier to reach them with an email, since they might be busy, afk or just plain logged off.
ANet may give it to you.
I use the ingame mail a lot. Specially for mailing my guildies
I got a subscription on a weird pop up called ‘mail suppression’ though.. seems to come with it..

mail suppression kicks in after 2 mails sent within a minute or two.
It’s quite annoying because the suppression counts any emails that failed to send due to suppression too. The result can be pretty annoying.
But its less annoying than gold sellers flooding my inbox.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

They wouldn’t, but because the ArenaNet communicates a lot via in-game mail (for story quests and other notifications), they may be lead to believe that all the messages they receive are exclusively from the Guild Wars 2 team at first.
I use it to send items to guildies.
Just a quick addition to my previous post.
I know what ‘suppression’ is, i was just indicating how much I was actually mailing :P
As a guild leader, communicating a lot with my guildies trough mail, I find the suppression highly annoying. Still voting for a system that allows more mails being send (before the suppression kicks in) between guild members. But that’s not what this topic is about so i won’t go into that any further

Scammers do.
Message Body length must at least be 15.
I sent items and messages via mail to guildies pretty often. I’d say I send messages almost every day, sometimes many times a day.

This entirely.
Other times I use the mail system:
-Sending items to my boyfriend, so he can mail them back to me (so I can transfer items across characters without visiting a bank, or to save inventory space)
-Sending items to my boyfriend for his use (e.g. materials, weapons with locked skins)
-Sending consumables to party members
-Sending materials to guild members so they can craft stuff for GH upgrades
-Sending items bought off the TP to friends/guildies if they can’t get to a TP at that moment in time
-Sending “care packages” to friends new to the game, to help them start out
I guess if you don’t have friends/guildies the mail system is pretty redundant, but I find I get a lot of use out of it.
Yes, quite a lot actually.
And a trading interface would do a lot of bad things with actually minimal positive.
We’d see map cheat in practically every zone filled with trade spam (hey just like gw1)
You think scamming is bad now? Just give the scammers an actual scam interface
It would bypass the TP fees, leaving a certain someone to have to come up with even more new gold sinks to compensate
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
Not really, since I can’t send anything through the mail without being penalized.
Hmm, I once sent 7 silvers to a player named Karl Tanner. Other than that and sending items to friends, not so much.
I send used or crafted stuff to friends.
RIP City of Heroes
I use mail quite often.
I have a few friends in the game who I don’t know in real life and don’t have on Facebook or anything, so if I want to tell them something I either have to hope they come online at the right time (and I still remember what I wanted to tell them when they do) or I have to send them a mail.
It’s always exciting when I log in and find mail waiting for me.

That’s one of the many benefits of having alt accounts. I mail items from one account to another to return to sender. It’s useful for storing some things that way and for my key runner to have access to weapons/food/potions/fireworks/inventory bags while still in the starter instance.

Yes.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
I can’t say that I email people often, but I have and do as needed.
It’s nice being able to drop someone a message that is offline, and may not be on before I either forget or log off.
Of course I also use it to share gold and materials with my husband, and my guildies.
I’ve used it to coordinate helping out with LS and guild hall claiming, occasionally I send/receive RP messages, and it is a nice way to leave a message for a friend.
So yes, I do use it for more than item transfers.
Absolutely do use it. Not every day/week mind you, but when I want to send a porter a tip, it’s nice. When I want to send a guildie an item or gold they need, it’s nice. When I am partying with somebody and they could use a potion or food to help them out (and thus the whole team), it’s nice. I could go on and on with it’s applications, but I think my point is made.
