I am in North America and I am playing on a European server. I don’t have any issues other than the ones caused by my ISP but that doesn’t actually mean anything. Recently I’ve seen quite a few posts from Europeans playing on a European server having connection issues.

A few months ago a friend who lives in the same city with a better connection was having issues(we play on the same server) while I didn’t.

This is one of those things where other people’s experiences aren’t necessarily a good predictor of your experience. However you should have a less likely chance of having problems if you stick with a NA server.

What is your reason for picking a European server?

I’m located in the EU and have been playing on an NA server pretty much from the beginning. Never really had any issues with lag. Very, very rarely I will have a short lag spike, but that happens maybe once every few days and could honestly just be a problem with my connection, not the fact that I’m playing on a server that’s located overseas.

So yeah, you should be fine.

The main reasons it matters are:
1. If you’re on NA, you can’t play with anyone on EU, or vice versa.
2. You can only play WvW for your home server.

I don’t know about getting connection issues, but I know the EU servers are hosted in a different place to the NA servers (presumably in Europe), so your connection will be different to each. That’s not to say it will be unplayable or laggy simply because you’re on an EU server. But there might be more lag.

Same here. I joined a NA server from the start and have had the occasional issues during world bosses like Jormag but I suspect that’s the same for many NA players too, judging by the people who call it ‘Jorlag’ in map chat. For most play times, no problems. Oddly when I guested to a EU server I had some severe lag issues. I’ve no idea whether that was temporary or a permanent situation as I was only on there for a day or two but it was offputting at the time.

You can’t guest to servers in a different region …
